Frieden: You Can Give But Can't Get Ebola On a Bus

Will someone please get rid of Tom Frieden? Please?

From CNSNews:

Dr. Tom Frieden, director for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said during a telephone press briefing Wednesday that you cannot get Ebola by sitting next to someone on a bus, but that infected or exposed persons should not ride public transportation because they could transmit the disease to someone else.

Dr. Frieden also reported that a Dallas health-care worker who has been diagnosed with Ebola had a temperature of 99.5 when she flew from Cleveland to Dallas on Monday.

Frieden’s statement came in response to CNSNews.com’s question regarding a video message from President Barack Obama last week addressing Ebola-stricken countries in West Africa, in which the president told residents they “cannot get [Ebola] through casual contact like sitting next to someone on a bus.”
Billions of our tax dollars go to the CDC every year.

We deserve better than Frieden.

Amber Joy Vinson

UPDATE, October 16, 2014: CDC claims Vinson LIED about her condition.

What are we supposed to believe?

It appears Vinson was not being reckless. The fact that she contacted the CDC shows she had concern for the public.

To me, this looks like the CDC is desperately trying to restore its credibility by dumping on the nurse the CDC failed to protect.

Right. That ship has sailed weeks ago.

The CDC cannot be trusted.

Measures are not being employed to protect Americans. That's a fact.

Panic is not a bad reaction to all this if it wakes people up to the real danger.

I believe we can control Ebola. We just have to make smart decisions, ones that currently are not being made by the buffoons in government being paid to do exactly that.

UPDATE, October 15, 2014: 2nd nurse with Ebola had 99.5F temperature before boarding plane
The second Dallas nurse stricken with Ebola shouldn’t have been traveling on a commercial airliner, top health officials said Wednesday, as doctors hastily planned for her transfer to Atlanta.

Amber Joy Vinson, a 29-year-old nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, became ill after having contact with Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who died from the killer virus earlier this month.

It was disclosed Wednesday that Vinson, an Ohio native, has been traveling in recent days.

She was aboard Frontier Airlines Flight 1143 from Cleveland to Dallas/Fort Worth on Monday, officials said. The CDC is trying to track down all 132 people on that flight to make sure they’re OK.

“The second health care worker reported no symptoms and no fever,” CDC director Dr. Thomas Frieden said. “However, because at that point she was in a group of individuals known to have exposure, she should not have traveled.”

Freiden also said that during her self-monitoring, Vinson recorded a temperature of 99.5 — just under the 100.4 fever threshold that would have required her to seek medical attention, but should definitely kept her off an airliner.
My prayers are with all those people potentially exposed to this deadly disease because of Vinson's reckless behavior. They and their family members must be terrified, and rightly so.

If anyone gets Ebola because Vinson made the terribly irresponsible decision to fly while presenting a fever, just hours before being diagnosed with Ebola, I hope he/she/they plan to take legal action against the remarkably selfish, clueless Vinson as well as the frighteningly clueless CDC.

There needs to be accountability.

And if anyone becomes ill because selfish airhead Dr. Nancy Snyderman wanted soup, I hope they sue her and NBC.

Accountability.

The carelessness is truly shocking.

Wait. Check this out:

WHAT?

If Vinson did indeed get permission from the CDC to travel, she shouldn't be considered at fault.

But still, common sense should come into play. You know?

Apparently, it's true. Vinson was told by the CDC it was safe for her to fly.

If that's the case, that it was safe, then why does the CDC want to talk to the passengers that were aboard Vinson's flight?

This is such a mess!

I have no faith in the CDC. NONE!

I want Tom Frieden fired. NOW!

Before going to bed last night, I told my husband that I dreaded waking up to today's news. Would there be another person infected with Ebola?

Turns out, there is.

This is a nightmare.

Amber Joy Vinson is the second person to become infected with the Ebola virus after having contact with Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian who lied to his government to come to the United States.

Duncan brought Ebola to America, something he would not have done had he been truthful to Liberian authorities.

Like Nina Pham, Amber Joy Vinson is in her twenties and a registered nurse.

From the Dallas Morning News:

A second nurse has tested positive for the Ebola virus, according to preliminary lab results released early Wednesday.

The health care worker, like nurse Nina Pham, took care of Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who became the nation’s first person diagnosed with the deadly virus. The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed the positive results.

Family has identified the nurse as 29-year-old Amber Joy Vinson. Vinson is a registered nurse in Texas. Her grandmother, Martha Shuler, declined to comment further. Her father, Ronald Shuler, said the family will make a statement later.

“Like Nina Pham, this is a heroic person – a person who has dedicated her life to helping others,” said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins at a press conference Wednesday morning.

Jenkins said Vinson is handling the situation with “grit, grace and determination.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Wednesday that Vinson had traveled on an airplane the day before she reported experiencing symptoms of the Ebola virus.

Vinson was put into isolation within 90 minutes of reporting she had a fever. City and county officials declined to give an exact time frame for when the new patient tested positive for Ebola in a preliminary test at a state lab in Austin.

In addition to Vinson and Pham, there are 75 other hospital workers being monitored for symptoms of Ebola. Officials said they expect to see more cases.

“It may get worse before it gets better, but it will get better,” said Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings at an early morning press conference.
Yeah, it's getting worse.

From WFAA:
There are now two Dallas nurses being treated for the Ebola virus, and News 8 has learned that the second patient flew on an airplane Monday.

Family members say 26-year-old nurse Amber Vinson has joined nurse Nina Pham, also 26, in isolation at Texas Presbyterian Hospital. Martha Schuler, the mother of Vinson's former stepfather, confirmed her identity Wednesday morning.

The Centers for Disease Control says Vinson was a passenger on Frontier Airlines Flight 1143, which flew from Cleveland to Dallas-Fort Worth on Monday -- the day before she reported symptoms.

The center is now contacting all 132 passengers on that flight, which landed around 8:16 p.m., as a precaution and is asking them to call 1-800-CDC-INFO.

Frontier Airlines says the plane stayed at DFW International Airport overnight, and has since been cleaned. It traveled to Cleveland on Tuesday and was cleaned again. The airline says Vinson traveled to Ohio from Dallas-Fort Worth on Flight 1142 on Oct. 10.
VINSON FLEW ON PASSENGER FLIGHTS ON OCTOBER 10TH AND 13TH!

Why in hell would a nurse who treated the first Ebola patient in the U.S. get on a plane?

Probably because the CDC and the U.S. government misled individuals into a false sense of security.

Something as basic as this and the CDC couldn't this right.

DON'T TRAVEL ON A COMMERCIAL PLANE AFTER HAVING CONTACT WITH AN EBOLA PATIENT.

Unbelievable.

This is really bad, really bad.

It's time to take dramatic measures to protect Americans.

That means mandatory quarantines.

The best way we have to combat Ebola is to isolate the virus and prevent its outbreak.

We have to stop terrible people like Duncan from coming into the country.

Tom Frieden should be fired immediately. NOW.

I wonder if all the people who mocked those of us deeply concerned about the spread of Ebola in the U.S. after Duncan brought it here are laughing now.

Obama should address the American people TONIGHT, from the freaking Oval Office.

Tell us your plan, Obama. NOW. Take this seriously. NOW.

NO MORE GOLF FOR A WHILE.

"Stopping the spread of this disease is the core mission here," Gen. David Rodriguez, chief of U.S. Africa Command, said last week.

OK. Then do all you can to stop it - in the U.S.

Obama deployed the U.S. military to fight Ebola in Africa, sending thousands there.

Hey, Obama! Maybe YOU should take appropriate measures in OUR country.

Nina Pham

The identity of the nurse infected with Ebola, as a result of Thomas Eric Duncan's lies to get into the U.S., has been revealed by her family.

She is 26 years old.

Her name is Nina Pham.

From WFAA:

A Dallas nurse diagnosed with the Ebola virus over the weekend is a former Texas Christian University student identified by a family member as 26-year-old Nina Pham.

The family reached out to WFAA Monday morning and shared an image of the nurse who grew up in Fort Worth.

A health care worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, Pham became infected while treating Thomas Eric Duncan, who died from the virus days before the nurse's diagnosis.

Pham graduated from TCU's nursing program in 2010 and is the first person to contract the disease while in the Unites States.

One person was identified to have been around Pham while she was potentially infectious. That person is under daily monitoring by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and has showed no symptoms of the virus.

"The existence of the first case of Ebola spread in the U.S. changes some things and it doesn't change other things," said Tom Frieden, director of the CDC, during a news conference Monday. "It doesn't change the fact that we know how Ebola spreads. It doesn't change the fact that it's possible to take care of Ebola safely. But it does change substantially how we approach it."
I wish Frieden would just shut the hell up.

I don't believe anything that comes out of his mouth.

This jerk was on a disgraceful "blame the victim" tour yesterday, blaming Nina Pham for a "breach in protocol.

From the LA Times:

Earlier Sunday, the CDC's Frieden blamed what is thought to be the first U.S. transmission of the deadly virus on a breach in protocol.

"We're deeply concerned about this new development," Frieden said in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation."

"I think the fact that we don't know of a breach in protocol is concerning, because clearly there was a breach in protocol. We have the ability to prevent the spread of Ebola by caring safely for patients."

President Obama was briefed Sunday on the diagnosis by Lisa Monaco, his homeland security and counter-terrorism advisor. He later spoke with Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, in which he directed that the CDC's investigation of the apparent protocol breach move “as expeditiously as possible.”

The White House said Obama also ordered federal health authorities to take additional steps to ensure that healthcare facilities nationwide are prepared to follow infection control protocols in the event they should confront a possible Ebola case.
And where was Obama following his briefing on the disclosure of the first patient to contract Ebola on U.S. soil?

HE WAS PLAYING GOLF!

This miserable SOB (sorry, but true) was golfing. It was his 200th round of golf as president.

TWO HUNDRED!

Obama is playing golf while Nina Pham and her family and her co-workers and her neighbors are no doubt stricken with concern for Nina and fear for their own safety.

Remember this reassurance from Obama?

Obama said, "Ebola is not easily transmitted."

OBAMA: Keep in mind that Ebola is not something that is easily transmitted. That’s why, generally, outbreaks dissipate. But the key is identifying, quarantining, isolating those who contract it and making sure that practices are in place that avoid transmission. And it can be done, but it’s got to be done in an organized, systematic way, and that means that we’re going to have to help these countries accomplish that.
Of course, we know that is BS.

Here's a photo of Nina, provided by her family:

Here are photos of Obama in his happy place.

How can he golf while this is happening?

If Ebola is so freaking hard to get, I think Obama should go to Dallas and visit the victim and her family. That might help alleviate panic and fear.

Remember when AIDS was spreading and celebrities were pictured hugging and being in close contact with victims?

Looks like Ebola is a different matter altogther. It's not that hard to get, is it? A little "breach in protocol" can mean disaster.

I am praying for Nina's recovery, this young woman, young enough to still be considered a child in terms of being eligible for health insurance coverage on her parents' plan.

Good Lord.

Nina shouldn't be sick with Ebola. I hope the family is examining possible legal action.

Has Jesse Jackson contacted the Pham family?

No?

I doubt it.

Thomas Duncan Dies

Thomas Duncan died of Ebola this morning.

I hope all those fools who were under the incredibly naive impression that the U.S. medical system could magically manage this disease are getting their wake-up call.

I hope all those idiots who accepted the crap that Obama and his administration have dished out, and believed the positively ridiculous statements being spewed by CDC director Tom Frieden, are thinking again.

I hope they realize the Obama government is not taking adequate measures to protect Americans.

Thomas Eric Duncan

UPDATE, October 8, 2014: Duncan Dies of Ebola.

Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian citizen who came to the United States knowing that he had moved a woman dying of Ebola, has done us a favor.

Duncan's ability to get to the U.S., most likely to take advantage of our medical care, reveals that the Obama government and the CDC is failing to protect American citizens.

Who is Duncan?

From CNN:

He is a 42-year-old Liberian citizen, said a friend who knows him well but asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of his case.

Duncan's Facebook page indicates that he's from the Liberian capital of Monrovia, where he attended E. Jonathan Goodridge High School.

Why did he come to the United States?

To visit family and friends, according to the friend, who noted this was Duncan's first trip to America. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Thomas Frieden has said that Duncan was "staying with family members who live in this country."

Stanley Gaye, a Liberian community leader in Dallas, said Duncan was in Dallas visiting his girlfriend.

When did Duncan leave Liberia?

He departed the West African nation on September 19, Frieden says.

How did he get Ebola?

Authorities haven't said.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Duncan had direct contact with a pregnant woman stricken with Ebola on September 15, days before he left for the United States. Citing the woman's parents and Duncan's neighbors in Monrovia, Liberia, the newspaper said Duncan had helped carry the ailing woman home after a hospital turned her away because there wasn't enough space in its Ebola treatment ward.

A CDC spokesman told CNN on Wednesday that he hadn't seen the newspaper's report and couldn't comment.
Duncan got on the plane only 4 days after moving a woman dying of Ebola.

He knew that he was at risk.

When he became ill in the U.S., he and his family did not make it clear to medical officials that Ebola was the possible cause.

The family allowed children to have contact with him and they sent them to school.

Sorry, but that is shockingly irresponsible.

The children attend American schools. I assume the family functions in America. They must be able to communicate. How difficult is it to scream, "HE COULD HAVE EBOLA"?

And what about the hospital? Talk about dropping the ball!

I take no comfort in the fact that others in contact with Duncan aren't showing Ebola symptoms. The incubation period is 2 to 21 days.

Let's see what the situation is after 21 days have passed.

Let's see how much, if any, blood will be on the hands of Obama and his administration.

Ebola in Dallas

So now what?

From FOX News:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed on Tuesday that a patient being treated at a Dallas hospital has tested positive for Ebola, the first case diagnosed in the United States.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas officials said in a statement Monday that an unnamed patient was being tested for Ebola and had been placed in "strict isolation" due to the patient's symptoms and recent travel history.

...CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden said that the patient arrived in Texas from Liberia earlier this month and exhibited no symptoms. The patient sought care last Friday and has been hospitalized in isolation since the weekend. Frieden said that officials don't believe there is any risk to anyone who was on the flight at that time.
I don't trust any information about Ebola from the CDC.

From ABC News:

Frieden said he was confident there would not be an Ebola outbreak in the U.S.

"There is no doubt in my mind we will stop it here," he said.

He later added that Ebola is a "scary disease," but vowed, "We are stopping it in its tracks in this country."

...Frieden declined to identify the patient other than to say, "The individual was here to visit family who live in this country." Frieden later indicated the patient was male when he modified the comment to say, "He was visiting family members and staying with family members who live in this country."

Health officials are tracking down the patient's close contacts to determine whether they contracted the virus, Frieden said.
I am not reassured by Frieden's assertions.

I don't trust the Obama government to take the necessary measures to prevent an outbreak.

Obama has tranformed the U.S. into the JV team.
