Students Brawl on Milwaukee County Bus

UPDATE: Guard will ride bus where beating occurred
_______________

From TMJ4:

Arrests were made after a group of kids beat up a student on a Milwaukee County bus.

Sheriff David Clarke called the group that attacked the student a "boorish mob." The beating was caught on tape.

The student was injured, but recovered.

The students all go to school at St. Charles alternative school. They got on a Milwaukee County bus after school and that's where the vicious beating happened.

In the video, you can see the 15-year-old victim in the lower left hand corner. He's standing alone. Next, you can see a group of boys approach, and then start violently beating him.

The boy tries to protect himself, but is outnumbered, and one of the suspects takes a turn kicking and punching him.

Once they finish attacking him, they laugh, and get off the bus.

"These gang style beatings are serious,” Sheriff Clarke said.

The victim told police one of the suspects started a fight with him at school and continued the attack on the bus. Four of the five suspects, ages 15 and 16, were arrested. No one has been charged.

Clarke says all have prior criminal records including drug, weapons and sexual assault charges.

"St. Charles students have been a problem since the beginning of the school year. They are a menace,” Sheriff Clarke said.

This second bus beating in a month as many passengers wishing for more security.

What a disgrace!

This is the third severe beating on a bus in less than a month.

On May 14, a county bus driver was attacked.

The following week, another driver was attacked.

Gee, do you think this sort of brutality on county buses might be why people prefer the safety and comfort of driving their own cars or carpooling?

There are lots of reasons that I find mass transit unappealing, but the safety concerns are high on my list of negatives.

I don't know if more security is the answer. Instead of adding security, why not keep the thugs off the county bus?

All of the suspects in the incident have "prior criminal records including drug, weapons and sexual assault charges." In other words, they are a known threat to the community.

They've shown that they aren't willing to behave appropriately. They have no self-control. I think their behavior should mean they must forfeit their riding privileges.

Law-abiding citizens should not have to fear boarding a county bus in the city of Milwaukee.

There is nothing about a county bus that prompts people to act out and become violent. Leaders can't blame alcohol, as in the case of the problems at RiverSplash. They can't blame the violence on the late hours that the bus runs. This brawl happened after school, in broad daylight.

The problem isn't a lack of security. The real problem is the thugs.

I suppose Mayor Tom Barrett is outraged again. Maybe not.

In any event, making angry statements doesn't accomplish anything. The thugs have to go.
