Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the FBI, and Lies

The FBI had contact with terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev before he murdered and maimed people at the Boston Marathon.

From CBS News:

The FBI admitted Friday they interviewed the now-deceased Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev two years ago and failed to find any incriminating information about him.

As first reported by CBS News correspondent Bob Orr, the FBI interviewed Tsarnaev, the elder brother of at-large bombing suspect Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, at the request of a foreign government to see if he had any extremist ties, but failed to find any linkage.

Both Tsarnaev brothers were legal permanent residents of the U.S. There is no evidence so far that either brother received any tactical training.

CBS News correspondent John Miller reports it is likely Russia asked to have the elder Tsarnaev vetted because of suspected ties to Chechen extremists.

The FBI is likely to have run a background check, running his name through all the relevant databases, including those of other agencies, checking on his communications and all of his overseas travel. Miller reports that culminated in a sit-down interview where they probably asked him a lot of questions about his life, his contacts, his surroundings. All of this was then written in a report and sent it to the requesting government.

...Although the FBI initially denied contacting Tsarnaev, the brothers' mother said they had in an interview with Russia Today.
"The FBI initially denied contacting Tsarnaev."

What the hell?

Always a cover-up.

The FBI lied.

Of course, murderer Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Islamist, no doubt lied to the FBI.

The facts are the facts.

And the fact is there were concerns about terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Why wasn't he monitored by U.S. officials?

Why was someone deemed to be a possible or probable threat allowed to travel out of the country, spend six months in Russia, and then return?

There was a breakdown in the intelligence community and in terms of immigration.

Very disturbing.

How many others like him are floating around American cities, planning terror?

Suspect Down

It appears that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been found.

Suspect is down.

According to WCVB, a body has been found on a boat in Watertown.

FOX News is reporting Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is down on the street and "incapacitated."

FOX News reports the suspect is alive and moving and surrounded, but not apprehended.

Tsarnaev is not going to get away. He's as good as captured.

That's a relief for the people in Boston. However, can we be certain that the death of Suspect 1 and the apprehension or death of Suspect 2 means the threat is over? Did the Brothers Tsarnaev have accomplices?

Authorities obviously could kill Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. They want to take him alive.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev: Getaway

UPDATE:

____________

Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

Brothers Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing.

The elder brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed in a firefight with police last night.

The younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, is at-large.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's Facebook page gives a glimpse into his "beliefs."

World view: Islam

Personal priority: Career and money
Interesting.

He doesn't mention killing Americans as a personal priority.

The assumption circulated by American Leftists, including politicians and media outlets, that the Boston Marathon bombings were carried out by Right-wing extremists can now be officially put to rest.

About the brothers, from FOX News:

The brothers behind Monday's deadly bombing at the Boston Marathon are believed to have come to the U.S. from Chechnya as long as a decade ago, but apparently never fit in with the American culture.

“I don’t have a single American friend, I don’t understand them,” the older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed in a shootout with police hours after the pair was identified as suspects, told a photographer in 2009.

What drove him and his brother, Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, who lived with him in Cambridge, Mass., to perpetrate the deadly attack — which killed three people and injured 176 others — is not clear. They are believed to be Muslim and to have had military training overseas. But the older brother, who was 26, also worked out in a gym and dreamed of making the U.S. Olympic boxing team, according to an online photojournalism slideshow that chronicled his training.

...Tamerlan previously studied at Bunker Hill Community College in hopes of becoming an engineer. He took off a semester from his studies to practice boxing at the Wai Kru Mixed Martial Arts Center in Boston.

His brother is believed to be the same Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who won a $2,500 scholarship in 2011 from the city of Cambridge, according to online records.

The father of the suspects, reached in Makhachkala, Russia, by The Associated Press, characterized his younger son as an intelligent and accomplished young man.

"My son is a true angel," Anzor Tsarnaev said. "Dzhokhar is a second-year medical student in the U.S. He is such an intelligent boy. We expected him to come on holidays here."

An uncle of the brothers, also reached by The Associated Press, said that the men lived together near Boston and have been in the United States for about a decade. They traveled here together from the Russian region near Chechnya, according to Ruslan Tsarni of Montgomery Village, Md.
Although the brothers were in the U.S. for over a decade and came here as kids, they sought to kill innocent Americans and succeeded.

The terrorist brothers are Muslims.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, now dead, proclaimed to be a devout Muslim, but he had an interest in hip hop.

From TMZ:

Tamerlan Tsarnaev has an email associated with the website, "Real-hiphop.com."

The site provides information about hip hop artists and upcoming DVD releases.

What's interesting ... hip hop lyrics are notoriously violent and often degrading to women. Tamerlan Tsarnaev has a boxing profile in which he says he doesn't take his shirt off much because he doesn't want women to get bad ideas, adding, "I'm very religious." This statement is significantly more conservative than the hip hop genre.
Strange.

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev apparently had Islamist sympathies. They are terrorists and cold-blooded murderers.

I'm sure the American Left, including the White House, is crushed. They had such high hopes the American Right could be blamed. All that Tax Day, Patriots Day talk was wrong.

It's amazing to me that Dzhokhar, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth student, has managed to elude police for at least twelve hours.

I doubt Suspect 2 will get out of this alive, but...

Mike Mulugeta and Sunil Tripathi

CORRECTION, 9:00 AM: Mike Mulugeta and Sunil Tripathi are NOT the Boston Marathon bombers.

They have been identified as Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

From FOX News:

Police believe the two suspects from Monday's terror attack are brothers, possibly from Chechnya or a nearby region, according to sources who spoke to Fox News. The man on the loose was identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass. They are believed to have been here for 'several years,' sources said.

Schools are closed, train and bus service is suspended and police were telling residents of neighborhoods including Cambridge, Waltham, Watertown, Newton, Arlington and Belmont to stay indoors. Police have formed a wide perimeter and believe the suspect is on foot, armed and dangerous, inside.

"Suspect No. 1 is dead, Suspect Two is on the run," Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said at a Friday morning press conference. "There is a massive manhunt underway."

The dead suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was shot multiple times in a gunfight with police Thursday night and pronounced dead at a hospital.

________________

Why did these terrorists stay in Boston? Why didn't they flee immediately after they carried out their attack?

Instead of escaping in hope of living to bomb another day, they allegedly murdered an officer, committed a carjacking, tossed explosives out of the car, and engaged in a firefight, seriously wounding another officer.

It seems they weren't too interested in living a long life.

Bill Maher: Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann - MILFs

Chris Matthews' guest on Wednesday's Hardball was the always greasy Bill Maher.

Matthews and Maher took aim at Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.

Transcript, from NewsBusters:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: [Sarah Palin] doesn't know answers to questions, but and apparently according to our side show element tonight, the deal is when she gives a speech all questions have to be screened and approved by God knows who her camp. But yet when she gives a prepared speech from her stump she's talking about the Crimea, she's talking about the Ukraine, about Chechnya. She's got opinions about Iran. It's absolutely world wide the areas she's touching on. My only belief is she's got neo-cons scribbling all this stuff in crayon for her and she's reading it out like she knows what she's talking about but if you ask her one question she doesn't know any answer. So I am a little bit puzzled but I'm not really.

BILL MAHER: Yes. I'd like to see her on Jeopardy Chris.

MATTHEWS: Ha! Ha!

MAHER: I would love to see her and Michele Bachman on Jeopardy. I think it would be the all-time low score.

MATTHEWS: What do you make of those two ladies when they came out and did sort of a competition, they showed up together looking - well, they are attractive ladies, let's say that, and they were very good at drawing that crowd up there in Minnesota, which I used to think was Hubert Humphrey and Gene McCarthy country, and now it's that country.

MAHER: Well, I think you're right. I think you hit on something there. They're attractive especially to the Republican Party, which is not known as a party that really does well with the opposite sex. Usually they're doughy white men and I think they look on Michele Bachmann and, and Sarah Palin, as you know, M.I.L.Fs and I agree, they're Morons I'd Like to Forget.

MATTHEWS: Oh my God. Let's take a look. Here's Sarah Palin leaving the stage today in Boston. Here's what the announcers said along those lines, Bill, I think you'll have some material here. Let's listen to what the announcers said as these, as this, as Sarah Palin left the stage.

(Begin clip)

UNIDENTIFIED MAN: Did you hear that my lefty friends? Did you see that? Conservative women, they're smarter than you and they're hotter than you!

(End clip)

MATTHEWS: Did you pick up on that little sidebar and there? "They're hotter than you, they're smarter than you." So now they do claim an advantage in that department of glamour for the first time, I guess, in a while. The Democratic Party used to that that edge. Now the conservative party, the tea partiers are claiming the, the glamour edge. Mr. Maher?

MAHER: Right and this is the, this is the criterion we're using to judge our, our field for national candidates? You know we have a terrible deficit in this country. You know what else we also have a deficit in? Female role models.

MATTHEWS: Well, I don't know about that. We've got, we've got the Secretary of State, we've got a couple of senators from California. They're pretty impressive. We've got a very impressive senator from Missouri and from Minnesota. I've gotten to know a lot of them and they're very impressive.

MILFs.

Maher is such a slimeball. And Matthews didn't admonish Maher at all for calling the women, a former governor and vice presidential nominee and a U.S. representative, MILFs. Yes, Maher switched it up to "morons I'd like to forget," eventually explaining his term. But that's not what MILF stands for and everyone knows it.

It's unbelievably degrading.

And what do we hear from the self-proclaimed feminists on the Left?

No complaints whatsoever.

Hypocrites.

And what do we hear from women like Nancy Pelosi or Hillary Clinton? Why don't they object?

Hypocrites.

And what about Obama, always whining about the rhetoric from the likes of Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk show hosts?

Hypocrite.

MSNBC hosts and other libs won't shut up about the supposedly ugly rhetoric from conservative commentators, but when Leftists engage in name-calling and slurs, it's considered appropriate.

I have a problem with that.

Moscow Subway Explosions: 'Black Widows' Terrorism

Dozens were killed in Moscow Monday morning when two blasts hit the subway system.

It was terrorism, or what Janet Napolitano would call a "man-caused disaster."

From Napolitano's interview with Der Spiegel:

SPIEGEL: Madame Secretary, in your first testimony to the US Congress as Homeland Security Secretary you never mentioned the word "terrorism." Does Islamist terrorism suddenly no longer pose a threat to your country?

JANET NAPOLITANO: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word "terrorism," I referred to "man-caused" disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.

By all means, let's move away from the politics of fear.

Read about the "man-caused disaster" in Moscow.

MOSCOW (AP) -- Two female suicide bombers blew themselves up on Moscow's subway system as it was jam-packed with rush-hour passengers Monday, killing at least 35 people and wounding 38, the city's mayor and other officials said.

Emergency Ministry spokeswoman Svetlana Chumikova said 23 people were killed in an explosion shortly before 8 a.m. at the Lubyanka station in central Moscow. The station is underneath the building that houses the main offices of the Federal Security Service, or FSB, the KGB's main successor agency.

A second explosion hit the Park Kultury station about 45 minutes later. Chumikova said at least 12 were dead there. The ministry later said 38 people were injured.

"I heard a bang, turned my head and smoke was everywhere. People ran for the exits screaming," said 24-year-old Alexander Vakulov, who said he was waiting on the platform opposite the targeted train at Park Kultury.

...Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said both explosions were believed to have been set off on the trains.

"The first data that the FSB has given us is that there were two female suicide bombers," Luzhkov told reporters at the Park Kultury site.

The blasts practically paralyzed movement in the city center as emergency vehicles sped to the stations.

In the Park Kultury blast, the bomber was wearing a belt packed with plastic explosive and set it off as the train's doors opened, said Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for Russia's top investigative body. The woman has not been identified, he told reporters.

A woman who sells newspapers outside the Lubyanka station, Ludmila Famokatova, said there appeared to be no panic, but that many of the people who streamed out were distraught.

"One man was weeping, crossing himself, saying 'thank God I survived'," she said.

...Russian police have killed several Islamic militant leaders in the North Caucasus recently, including one last week in the Kabardino-Balkariya region. The killing of Anzor Astemirov was mourned by contributors to two al-Qaida-affiliated Web sites.

More:
The head of Russia's main security agency says Caucasus rebels are believed to have carried out two sucide bombings on Moscow's subway system that killed 36 people.

Officials say two female suicide bombers blew themselves up on trains as the subway was packed with rush-hour passengers Monday morning.

In a televised meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev, the head of the Federal Security Service said preliminary investigation points to terrorists connected to the restive Caucasus region that includes Chechnya.

Alexander Bortnikov said the assessment was based on fragments of the bombers' bodies. He did not elaborate.

In this case, it was a "woman-caused disaster."

Obama: Ramadan Message

Muslims, Obama has a message for you.

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama on Friday cast U.S. military efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan as part of his drive to forge a new relationship between America and the Muslim world. Relations with the world's 1.5 billion Muslims soured after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. In a video message to Muslims getting ready for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Obama said U.S. efforts to end the war in Iraq and to isolate extremists in Afghanistan and Pakistan are in keeping with America's responsibility to build a more peaceful and secure world. He said that also includes U.S. support for a two-state solution recognizing the rights of Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security. "All of these efforts are part of America's commitment to engage Muslims and Muslim-majority nations on the basis of mutual interest and mutual respect," Obama said in the message posted on the White House Web site. "And at this time of renewal, I want to reiterate my commitment to a new beginning between America and Muslims around the world." ...Obama said Ramadan's rituals are a reminder of the principles Muslims and Christians have in common, including advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings. Obama has made a special effort since taking office to repair U.S. relations with the world's Muslims, including visits to Turkey and Cairo. Obama's visit to the Egyptian capital in June fulfilled his promise to deliver a speech in a major Muslim city. In that speech, as well as in one to another important Muslim audience, in Turkey, Obama said: "America is not - and never will be - at war with Islam."
For some Muslims, observing Ramadan isn't all about "advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings." Some exhibit a hefty dose of intolerance on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan. Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day was the brainchild of Ayatollah Khomeini. In August of 1979, he declared:
For many years, I have been notifying the Muslims of the danger posed by the usurper Israel which today has intensified its savage attacks against the Palestinian brothers and sisters, and which, in the south of Lebanon in particular, is continually bombing Palestinian homes in the hope of crushing the Palestinian struggle. I ask all the Muslims of the world and the Muslim governments to join together to sever the hand of this usurper and its supporters. I call on all the Muslims of the world to select as Quds Day the last Friday in the holy month of Ramadan - which is itself a determining period and can also be the determiner of the Palestinian people’s fate - and through a ceremony demonstrating the solidarity of Muslims world-wide, announce their support for the legitimate rights of the Muslim people. I ask God Almighty for the victory of the Muslims over the infidels. Imam’s message announcing Quds Day, dated 7 August 1979 (16 Murdad 1358 AHS). Sahifa-yi Nur, Vol. 8, p. 229.
An excerpt from another message from Khomeini:
Quds Day is the day of Islam; it is the day when Islam should be revived, so let us revive it and implement Islamic laws in the Islamic countries. Quds Day is the day when we must warn all the superpowers that they can no longer keep Islam under their control by means of their evil agents. Quds Day is the day to give life to Islam. The Muslims must awaken, they must come to realise the power they have, the material power and the spiritual. What are the Muslims, who form a population of one billion, enjoy divine support and have Islam and their faith behind them, afraid of? . . . The governments in the world should know that Islam will not be defeated, Islam and the teachings of the Qur’an should prevail in all countries. Religion should be the religion of God and Islam is the religion of God so it should advance on all regions of the world. Quds Day is the day to announce such a matter, the day to announce ‘Muslims, advance!’ Advance on all the regions of the world. Quds Day is not confined to (matters pertaining to) Palestine alone, it is the day of Islam, the day of Islamic government, the day when the flag of an Islamic Republic should be raised in all (Islamic) countries, the day when the superpowers should be made to realise that they can no longer advance on the Islamic countries. I see Quds Day as a day of Islam and a day of the Most Noble Messenger (peace be upon him and his descendants). It is the day when we must prepare all our forces and bring the Muslims out of the seclusion they (the foreign powers and their agents) forced them into, so that with all their might and main they can stand up to the foreigners. And with all our strength we are standing against the foreigners and will not allow anyone else to interfere in our country’s affairs. The Muslims should not allow anyone else to interfere in the affairs of their country. On Quds Day, the nations should caution those governments which are traitors. Quds Day is the day when we shall discover which individuals and which regimes approve of the conspiracies of international groups and oppose Islam. Those who do not participate they oppose Islam and are in agreement with Israel, and those who participate they are committed, and in agreement with Islam opposing the enemies of Islam at the head America and Israel. It is a day when truth will be distinguished from falsehood, the day when truth and falsehood will be distinct. I beseech God the Blessed and Exalted to grant victory to Islam over all sections of the population in the world and to the oppressed over all the oppressors. And I beseech God the Blessed and Exalted to deliver our brothers in Palestine, in Lebanon and in southern Lebanon, indeed anywhere in the world they may be, from the hands of the oppressors and plunderers. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of God and the Imams of the Muslims Imam’s message dated 16 August 1979 (25 Murdad 1358 AHS). Sahifa-yi Nur, Vol. 8, pp. 233-234.
Unfortunately, some Muslims observe Ramadan, the holy month, with acts of violence. For example, from the New York Times:
A horrific explosion on Saturday morning in the huge Sadr City district here killed at least 35 people, mostly women and children, when a bomb detonated next to a line of women waiting to receive cooking fuel from a tanker truck, according to residents and officials at nearby hospitals. Many of the victims were burned to death. Two dozen of the dead were women or girls, as were 26 of the 36 wounded, the hospital officials said. The blast struck at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, in which more attacks were expected, given what has happened in past years, according to American and Iraqi officials.
From BBC News:
Tens of thousands of Iranians took part in the rally in Tehran which Iran organises every year on the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan to show solidarity with the Palestinian struggle. Shouting "Death to Israel, death to the Zionists", the protesters dragged Israeli flags along the ground and then set them on fire. Many carried posters and placards sporting the slogan "Israel should be wiped off the map".
From the National Post:
More than one billion Muslims mark the start of Ramadan today -- their holiest month of the year, devoted to prayer, fasting and charity. But for a small minority, it is also regarded as an auspicious time to escalate violence in the name of jihad. As a result, experts expect a surge in terrorism attacks during Ramadan, when most Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset in a spiritual exercise that teaches discipline, self-restraint and generosity. This week, in the run-up to Ramadan, hundreds of Muslims were murdered in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Yemen and Somalia. Seven massive car bombs exploded in Iraq on Wednesday, killing 96 people and injuring 536; yesterday four suicide bombers attacked police posts in Chechnya, just days after a bomb outside a police station in neighbouring Ingushetia killed 25 people and injured 160. Fierce fighting also exploded in Somalia yesterday, killing 22 people, as Islamist rebels launched a Ramadan offensive against African Union peacekeepers in Mogadishu. "The month of Ramadan has a special status as the month of religious spirituality and devotion. However, in Muslim tradition it is also perceived as a month of jihad, a month in which Allah grants military victories to his believers," says a report by the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute.
I don't understand people who observe a holy month by killing.

Boris and Bill

In today's New York Times, Bill Clinton writes a love letter to his friend Boris Yeltsin.

Bill writes:

Boris Yeltsin was intelligent, passionate, emotional, strong-willed and courageous. He wasn’t perfect, and he had to contend with staggering political and economic challenges as he led Russia away from centuries of authoritarian rule. But lead he did. At the end of the cold war, Russia and the world were lucky to have him.

History will be kind to my friend Boris.

Yeltsin died on April 23.

I wonder why it took Bill so long to formally euologize his good buddy.

It could be that he wanted his op-ed piece to be in the Sunday New York Times. Any other day of the week wouldn't be worthy of the former president.

Another possibility is that Hillary made him do it, to make Americans feel all warm and fuzzy about those wonderful Clinton years.

The Way We Were

I think it's possible that Bill wrote the column as a rewrite of history. He wants us to think of Yeltsin's time in office as an especially rosy time.

Yes, so much good can be associated with the Clinton era, including his friendship with Yeltsin.

Therefore, vote for Hillary.

Too much of a leap?

You were expecting a lib like Bill to be logical?

Bill says, "But at the end of the day, he almost always did the right thing."

Hmmm. Not everyone agrees with Bill.

His assessment of Yeltsin's role in history is interesting. It's much kinder than what The Washington Post offered on April 24, a day after Yeltsin's death.

From The Post:
Mr. Yeltsin ended up destroying much of what he had achieved. In 1993 he ordered the army to attack the same parliament building he had defended; though the political reactionaries inside were the first to take up arms, Mr. Yeltsin's response was brutal. Even more so was his invasion the next year of Chechnya, which, while failing to crush an independence movement, destroyed the republic, killed tens of thousands and set the stage for an even bloodier war by Mr. Putin. In 1996, Mr. Yeltsin won a second free election for president, but only after striking a corrupt deal with a group of businessmen who financed his campaign in exchange for being allowed to take control of some of Russia's biggest companies. Often ill or seemingly drunk, he allowed corruption and disorder to flourish in and outside of government and embarrassed Russians with his pratfalls.

Mr. Yeltsin's final sin was to hand the presidency in December 1999 to Mr. Putin, a product of the same KGB that had attempted the coup of 1991.

Bill didn't mention any of that.

I guess he's just a "glass is half full rather than half empty" kind of guy.

His column about Yeltsin is typical Clinton spin, a reinvention of the truth.

I certainly wouldn't expect Bill, friend of Boris, to speak ill of him and highlight his mistakes and his flaws so soon after his death. Perhaps it would have been best for Bill to just keep quiet instead of giving a false impression.

It's almost as if Bill's was writing about Yeltsin the way he hopes others will write about him someday.

"History will be kind to my friend Boris."

I bet Bill fantasizes that history will be kind to him. I'm sure he fantasizes about lots of things.

Pope Benedict, Radical Muslims, and the Ultimate Zero Tolerance Policy

Radical Muslims certainly practice their faith in interesting ways, don't they?

Peace, love, and understanding don't seem to be priorities for them. Above all, there appears to be no room for forgiveness.

Islamic extremists aren't letting up, not yet anyway. An Iranian leader is urging the protests to continue.

A Muslim extremist in London openly called for the
Pope to be killed.

Anjem Choudary said:

"The Muslims take their religion very seriously and non-Muslims must appreciate that and that must also understand that there may be serious consequences if you insult Islam and the prophet.

"Whoever insults the message of Mohammed is going to be subject to capital punishment."

"I am here have a peaceful demonstration. But there may be people in Italy or other parts of the world who would carry that out.

"I think that warning needs to be understood by all people who want to insult Islam and want to insult the prophet of Islam."

At that London demonstration, people held placards with messages such as "Behead Those Who Insult Islam," "Pope go to Hell," and "Jesus is the slave of Allah."

That's a tad extreme.

I get the feeling that these Muslims enjoy performing for the cameras almost as much as lib media outlets enjoy putting up the pictures of them displaying their hatred for Pope Benedict.

They need to get a grip. These people are seriously unbalanced.

CAIRO, Egypt -- Al-Qaida in Iraq warned Pope Benedict XVI on Monday that its war against Christianity and the West will go on until Islam takes over the world, and Iran's supreme leader called for more protests over the pontiff's remarks on Islam.

Good grief.

More
Pinky and the Brain talk.

The cartoon's famous tagline is: "Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?" "The same thing we do every night, Pinky: Try to take over the world!"

If Islam's war against the West is going to continue until Muslims take over the world, then it's going to be a very long war.

It's not going to happen.

The radicals really do have a death wish.

Protests broke out in South Asia and Indonesia, with angry Muslims saying Benedict's statement of regret a day earlier did not go far enough. In southern Iraq, demonstrators carrying black flags burned an effigy of the pope.

Islamic leaders around the world issued more condemnations of the pope's comments, but some moderates in the Middle East appeared to be trying to put a damper on the outrage, fearing it could spiral into attacks on Christians in the region.

The moderate Muslims are clueless.

There have already been attacks on Christians. Their fears are realized. It's more than a little late to put a damper on the outrage.

...Roman Catholic leaders stepped forward to defend the pontiff. At an Italian bishops' conference, Cardinal Camillo Ruini underlined the bishops' "total closeness and solidarity to the pope" and said they deplored interpretations of the pope's comments "which attribute to the Holy Father ... errors that he has not committed and aim at attacking his person and his ministry."

Few in the Islamic world were satisfied by Benedict's statement of regret.

"The pope's words have caused a deep wound in the hearts of Muslims that won't heal for a long time, and then only after a clear apology to Muslims," Egypt's religious affairs minister, Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq, wrote in a column in the government daily Al-Ahram on Monday.

These protests and the lame statements from officials have really gone over the top.

The Islamic extremists are proving that they are unreasonable and uncivilized, and that's putting it mildly.

Each day that this goes on, the civilized world loses more patience with them and rightly so.

Enough already!

...Al-Qaida in Iraq and its allies said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross," saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose the 'jizya' tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (being killed by) the sword."

Islam forbids drinking alcohol and requires non-Muslims to pay the "jizya" tax, though those who convert are exempt. The tax, sometimes called a head tax, has not been imposed in Muslim nations in about 100 years, though Islamic militant groups have tried to force non-Muslims to pay it on a local level in some countries.

"You infidels and despots, we will continue our jihad (holy war) and never stop until God avails us to chop your necks and raise the fluttering banner of monotheism, when God's rule is established governing all people and nations," said the statement by the Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups in Iraq.

Another Iraqi extremist group, Ansar al-Sunna, challenged "sleeping Muslims" to prove their manhood by doing something other than "issuing statements or holding demonstrations."

"If the stupid pig is prancing with his blasphemies in his house," the group said in a Web statement, referring to the pope, "then let him wait for the day coming soon when the armies of the religion of right knock on the walls of Rome."

What horrible, inflammatory rhetoric!

These hateful people are the ones who need to apologize, to Pope Benedict and all members of the Catholic Church.

In Iran, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei used the comments to call for protests against the United States. He argued that while the pope may have been deceived into making his remarks, the words give the West an "excuse for suppressing Muslims" by depicting them as terrorists.

"Those who benefit from the pope's comments and drive their own arrogant policies should be targeted with attacks and protests," he said, referring to the United States.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is an evil man.

He's deliberately twisting the Pope's words as an excuse to justify the unjustifiable.

..."His comments really hurt Muslims all over the world," Umar Nawawi of the radical Islamic Defenders' Front said in Jakarta. "We should remind him not to say such things which can only fuel a holy war."

Islamic countries also asked the U.N. Human Rights Council to examine the question of religious tolerance. Malaysia's foreign minister, Syed Hamid Albar, said Benedict's apology was "inadequate to calm the anger."

WHAT???

RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE???

ARE THEY INSANE???

THE RADICAL MUSLIMS HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ANY OTHER RELIGIONS.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Bush and Nineteen Suitcase Bombs

Today, President Bush delivered a major speech on terrorism.

This is how those at the
Los Angeles Times chose to write about his speech:

His remarks, in a speech sponsored by the National Endowment for Democracy, suggested a renewed effort by the administration in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to bring new attention to the war in Iraq as Bush struggles to regain his political footing and counter the flagging popular support for the central tenets of his foreign policy.

He said that since the Sept. 11 attacks, the United States had snuffed out 10 Al Qaeda plots, including three in the United States. He did not mention specific planned attacks.

He said that new efforts to boost domestic security in the United States, and the intelligence on which it relies, helped the country better face the threat.

Overall, the president appeared to be justifying his handling of both Iraq and the larger war on terrorism amid growing evidence that Islamic militancy has increased, not decreased since Sept. 11, 2001 and the invasion of Iraq in March, 2003. That would enable him to make the case for holding to his policy in Iraq and elsewhere to defeat a new global enemy in the new century.

...The president's emphasis on the high stakes involved in Iraq served as a response to the anti-war movement in the United States. It comes just weeks after a massive demonstration in Washington, and the month-long protest outside his vacation home in Texas, brought new visibility to the war's opponents.

Justifying his opposition to a quick withdrawal from Iraq, as many of the protesters have demanded, Bush said that the United States had not invaded Iraq and toppled Saddam Hussein just to leave the country in the hands of groups dedicated to the destruction of the United States.

...Bush described terrorist leaders Osama bin Laden and Abu Musab Zarqawi as modern-day equivalents of such 20th-century tyrants as Stalin, Hitler and Cambodia's Pol Pot.

Gee, that last comment reminds me of Dick Durbin talking about U.S. personnel at Gitmo. According to Dem Durbin, members of our military are equivalent to Stalin, Hitler, and Pol Pot.

Clearly, the LA Times critiques the speech as a weak effort by a beaten man to boost his sagging popularity, struggling to regain his political footing.

Rather than focus on the content of the President's speech, the spotlight is placed on Bush's political standing and how the speech relates to him personally.

Talk about taking your eye off the ball!

And now, we have news of a credible terrorist threat to the New York City subway system.

From
Newsday:

A "credible threat" to the subway system has prompted a vast mobilization of police officers, officials said Thursday.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg appeared at a news conference alongside Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly in which they announced the threat, which they said originated overseas.

Bloomberg said it was the most specific threat New York officials had received to date; no one in New York has been arrested, he said.

...Kelly asked the public to report suspicious people or activities. Police planned to start looking through bags, brief cases, baby strollers and luggage as they launched a large-scale search of New York's mass transit system.

"We have never had before a specific threat to our subway system," Bloomberg said. "Its importance was enhanced above the normal level by the detail that was available to us from intelligence sources." New York's security level remained at orange, the same level it has stayed at since Sept. 11.

Hundreds of officers were dispatched early this afternoon to every station in Manhattan -- and possibly system wide -- to thwart the attack.

Scores of officers from various narcotics units are being called in to assist in patrolling the subways, with many expected to convene first at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

...A law enforcement official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press that the threat is "specific to place, time and method," and that the method is bombing.

Rep. Peter King of New York confirmed the threat, saying "Obviously, this is a significant threat." King is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

The threat comes as the city emerges from two days of hightened alert during the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashana. Police officers patrolled outside of synagogues as thousands of congregants attended services.

ABC reports that "19 operatives were to place improvised explosive devices in the subways using briefcases, according to two sources."

And in this post-9/11 world, what have the Dems been doing?

At every opportunity, many Dems have been doing all they can to divide the country and weaken Bush and the Republicans, undermining the War on Terror.

They put their personal political gain ahead of the security of the country. Rather than work together for the good of the nation, these Dems have been relentless in bashing Bush, with no regard for the consequences of their divisive, hateful, irresponsible rhetoric.

Our enemies know that America's leadership is not united in its resolve to defeat them. In fact, many Dems and some RINOs have behaved in a manner that actively aids the very people that want nothing more than to murder as many Americans as possible.

For instance, Dem Russ Feingold has called for a December 31, 2006, date for U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq.

Nancy Pelosi also seeks to aid the enemy.
The BBC reports:

Nancy Pelosi, the top Democrat in the US House of Representatives, said the US had gone into Iraq on the basis of false premises and the president had "mismanaged" the aftermath.

"He is trying to justify his actions with a series of excuses that are not justifications for being there," Ms Pelosi said following the speech.

Mr Bush's address also came hours after a bipartisan rebuff to the White House when the Senate voted to set new limits on the interrogation of detainees in Iraq and elsewhere.

Some see the 90-9 vote as indicative of a new boldness among those from Mr Bush's Republican party to challenge the White House over war policy.

Unlike Feingold, and Pelosi, and weak and wobbly Republicans, I don't see today's threat to New York subways, or the terrorist threat in general, in terms of how it will affect the 2006 or 2008 elections. I don't think of our nation's security in terms of the President's approval ratings.

America has enemies. They've slaughtered thousands. They intend to kill more.

It makes me ill to watch political opportunists--elected officials and media mouthpieces--use our safety and our future as pabulum for political advantage.

(Excerpts)

Recently our country observed the fourth anniversary of a great evil, and looked back on a great turning point in our history. We still remember a proud city covered in smoke and ashes, a fire across the Potomac, and passengers who spent their final moments on Earth fighting the enemy. We still remember the men who rejoiced in every death, and Americans in uniform rising to duty. And we remember the calling that came to us on that day, and continues to this hour: We will confront this mortal danger to all humanity. We will not tire, or rest, until the war on terror is won.

The images and experience of September the 11th are unique for Americans. Yet the evil of that morning has reappeared on other days, in other places -- in Mombasa, and Casablanca, and Riyadh, and Jakarta, and Istanbul, and Madrid, and Beslan, and Taba, and Netanya, and Baghdad, and elsewhere. In the past few months, we've seen a new terror offensive with attacks on London, and Sharm el-Sheikh, and a deadly bombing in Bali once again. All these separate images of destruction and suffering that we see on the news can seem like random and isolated acts of madness; innocent men and women and children have died simply because they boarded the wrong train, or worked in the wrong building, or checked into the wrong hotel. Yet while the killers choose their victims indiscriminately, their attacks serve a clear and focused ideology, a set of beliefs and goals that are evil, but not insane.

Some call this evil Islamic radicalism; others, militant Jihadism; still others, Islamo-fascism. Whatever it's called, this ideology is very different from the religion of Islam. This form of radicalism exploits Islam to serve a violent, political vision: the establishment, by terrorism and subversion and insurgency, of a totalitarian empire that denies all political and religious freedom. These extremists distort the idea of jihad into a call for terrorist murder against Christians and Jews and Hindus -- and also against Muslims from other traditions, who they regard as heretics.

Many militants are part of global, borderless terrorist organizations like al Qaeda, which spreads propaganda, and provides financing and technical assistance to local extremists, and conducts dramatic and brutal operations like September the 11th. Other militants are found in regional groups, often associated with al Qaeda -- paramilitary insurgencies and separatist movements in places like Somalia, and the Philippines, and Pakistan, and Chechnya, and Kashmir, and Algeria. Still others spring up in local cells, inspired by Islamic radicalism, but not centrally directed. Islamic radicalism is more like a loose network with many branches than an army under a single command. Yet these operatives, fighting on scattered battlefields, share a similar ideology and vision for our world.

We know the vision of the radicals because they've openly stated it -- in videos, and audiotapes, and letters, and declarations, and websites. First, these extremists want to end American and Western influence in the broader Middle East, because we stand for democracy and peace, and stand in the way of their ambitions. Al Qaeda's leader, Osama bin Laden, has called on Muslims to dedicate, quote, their "resources, sons and money to driving the infidels out of their lands." Their tactic to meet this goal has been consistent for a quarter-century: They hit us, and expect us to run. They want us to repeat the sad history of Beirut in 1983, and Mogadishu in 1993 -- only this time on a larger scale, with greater consequences.

...With the rise of a deadly enemy and the unfolding of a global ideological struggle, our time in history will be remembered for new challenges and unprecedented dangers. And yet the fight we have joined is also the current expression of an ancient struggle, between those who put their faith in dictators, and those who put their faith in the people. Throughout history, tyrants and would-be tyrants have always claimed that murder is justified to serve their grand vision -- and they end up alienating decent people across the globe. Tyrants and would-be tyrants have always claimed that regimented societies are strong and pure -- until those societies collapse in corruption and decay. Tyrants and would-be tyrants have always claimed that free men and women are weak and decadent -- until the day that free men and women defeat them.

We don't know the course of our own struggle -- the course our own struggle will take -- or the sacrifices that might lie ahead. We do know, however, that the defense of freedom is worth our sacrifice. We do know the love of freedom is the mightiest force of history. And we do know the cause of freedom will once again prevail.
