In Maureen Dowd's column today, she writes about the plight of women.
She explains why women are so unhappy, "Blue is the New Black."
So am I blue or black? Black and blue?
Dowd writes that women the world over are miserable, with one exception: "The one exception is black women in America, who are a bit happier than they were in 1972, but still not as happy as black men."
Are these African-American women no longer black or are they just less blue?
I'm confused.
I didn't know I was so unhappy.
But then I suppose Joe Wilson didn't know that when he blurted out "You lie!" during Obama's health care speech, he really was saying, "You lie, boy!"
What would I do without Dowd to inform me of my innermost thoughts?

Michael Eric Dyson: "You Uppity N-Word"
HotAirPundit points out just how unhinged some on the Left are.
On the Today Show, Matt Lauer was talking Obama and Joe Wilson and racism with Michael Eric Dyson and Frank Luntz.
Luntz makes valid points, refuting this notion that racism is at the root of opposition to Obama's health care plan and his overall performance in office. He asserts that anger is directed at more than Obama. He says it's directed towards members of Congress, the Senate, the media, the unions -- "institutions we feel have failed us."
Contrast his reasoned remarks with what Dyson says.
He exposes himself to be a race-baiter with a dangerous agenda.
Video.
Transcript
MATT LAUER: Michael, did you hear 'You lie, boy!' in that comment from Joe Wilson?
MICHAEL ERIC DYSON: That and a lot more. 'You uppity N-' and so on. Here's the point, Matt...
LAUER: You really heard that?
DYSON: Well, well, obviously I didn't physically hear that but the implications, the inference. You don't only deal with so-called empirically verifiable racism. You can point to a lynching or using an epithet. You look at the kind of atmosphere and attitude. Look at the opposition.
President Obama wants to speak to the American school children. What's more American that? People are keeping their kids at home because they fear he's going to use his bully pulpit to try to drive home a Democratic agenda.
The point is, Matt, when you look at the intense concentration on Mr. Obama, painting as a president with two eyes in a black box, calling him a Nazi, calling him a chimpanzee, calling him a monkey-- How much evidence do you need?
It amazes me that white Americans are incapable of acknowledging what is before our face. And the reality is that we have to deal with the racial animus that undergirds and underlies American public discourse and the resistance to Mr. Obama's administration.
Even the Leftist Lauer couldn't let Dyson's ridiculous, inflammatory comment go unchallenged.
With all due respect, Dyson sounds like a nut, talking about implications and inferences, imagining all sorts of sinister motives and racial hatred lurking around every corner.
Particularly funny is when he cites Obama being called a Nazi, a chimpanzee, and a monkey as evidence of racism.
President Bush was called those exact same things for years. The Left named President Bush "the smirking chimp." Was that a racial statement?
Dyson's comments don't hold water.
They would be laughable if they weren't so ugly and destructive.
The Left is absolutely unhinged and out of control-- Jimmy Carter, Maureen Dowd, Dyson, etc.
These racism accusations are insidious.
Racism is real, and so are wolves. It's a terrible miscalculation to cry wolf.

Obama: Kanye West "Jackass" Audio
Here's the audio.
Loud and clear, Obama calls Kanye West a jackass.
I don't know. Obama slamming Kanye West like that is sort of harsh. What is that really about?
Do you think it's because West is black?
I think Obama being half white may have something to do with his "He's a jackass" line.
I doubt that it's just because Obama really believes that West is a jackass. There must be more to it than that, some sort of darker undertones.
I'm taking a cue from Maureen Dowd's line regarding Joe Wilson:
"But, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!"
When Obama was talking off the record about how West treated Taylor Swift, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: That boy's a jackass."
Does racism underlie Obama's opinion of West?
Could be.

Jimmy Carter continues to disgrace himself.
He was one of the worst presidents in this country's history. He is one of the worst ex-presidents in this country's history.
Again and again, he shames himself.
Carter is up to his spiteful attacks again, unfairly slamming his fellow Americans as racists.

JIMMY CARTER: I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American. I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way; and I've seen the rest of the country that shared the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African-Americans.
And that racism inclination still exists. And I think it's bubbled up to the surface because of the belief among many white people, not just in the South but around the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.
It's an abominable circumstance, and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply.
Clearly, history shows us that Carter wasn't qualified to lead this great country. His presidency was a mess. That's a belief held by many people.
That's not about skin. Good grief.
Obama screwing up the country isn't about the color of his skin. It's about his agenda. Period. End of story. Race isn't a factor.
I do not believe that Joe Wilson's "You lie!" outburst was about race. It was about Obama's deception and the way he was misrepresenting his health care plan to the American people.
This video clip plays like pure propaganda. NBC and MSNBC keep pushing and pushing the racism angle.
Brian Williams' remarks clearly promote that opposition to Obama is based on race, and there are serious racial tensions in the country.
BRIAN WILLIAMS: During the interview, we talked about what some see as a heightened climate of racial and other hate speech since the election of President Obama. A certain number of signs and images at last weekend's big Tea Party march on Washington and at other recent events have featured racial and other violent themes. And President Carter today said he is extremely worried by it.
(Carter's comments)
President Carter in Atlanta today. He went on to say that because of President Obama's personal qualities, he will be able to, quote, "triumph over the racist attitude that is the basis for the negative environment that we see so vividly demonstrated in public affairs in recent days," end of quote.
This is absolutely unconscionable.
This is clearly an orchestrated campaign to garner support for Obama by playing the race card. I hear the talking points coming from the White House, the Democrat leadership, their mouthpieces in the media, and the Dem minions.
The likes of Brian Williams, Maureen Dowd, and countless others have no qualms whatsoever about charging Americans with racism. That is vicious.
When President Bush was in office, did Williams do stories about the hate speech directed at him? Good Lord, did Williams complain about the anti-Bush "art," such as the work depicting a gun being held to President Bush's head or the movie made about his assassination, some Leftists' ultimate fantasy? Did he focus on the horrible signs and slogans and violence that marked the many marches protesting President Bush and his administration?
No, no, and no.
Where was Williams when all of those violent images and themes were being disseminated? Where was Carter?
So much ugliness directed at President Bush came from the Democrat leadership. Carter himself was at the forefront of that movement.
Carter disgusts me. He doesn't conduct himself as a former president should. No integrity. No honor.
Williams and the mob at NBC News and MSNBC disgust me. Maureen Dowd disgusts me.
Their racially divisive tactics are despicable.
I oppose Obama on government-run health care. I've called him a liar when he has told lies. Unfortunately, that has been often, but that does not make me a racist. I refuse to be intimidated by these horrible accusations being spouted by Carter and his comrades on the Left.
I'm truly angered by their total lack of decency and concern for the consequences of their inflammatory statements. What they are doing is wrong.
Something that has nothing at all to do with race -- opposition to instrusive policies and the growth of government by Obama and Congress -- is reported as being racial in nature.
What's really unforgivable is that the liberal media don't report on legitimate stories like the ACORN scandal, yet they report on a fabricated race war of their own creation.
It's the ugliest of lies.
Carter and Brian Williams and their like-minded cohorts are shameless.
The buck stops with Obama. The onus is on him to call them out now.

UPDATE: ABC jumps on the race bandwagon.
DAN HARRIS: They've waved signs likening President Obama to Hitler and the devil, raised questions about whether he was really born in this country, falsely accused him of planning to set up death panels, decried his speech to students as indoctrination and called him everything from a fascist to a socialist to a communist. And all that was before Mr. Obama's speech was interrupted by a Representative who once fought to keep the Confederate flag waving over the South Carolina state house. Add it all up, and some prominent Obama supporters are now saying that it paints a picture of an opposition driven, in part, by a refusal to accept a black President.

Joe Wilson: Gwen Moore and Tom Petri
Rep. Joe Wilson has been rebuked by the U.S. House of Representatives.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Bitterly divided along party lines, the House formally rebuked Republican Rep. Joe Wilson Tuesday for shouting "You lie" at President Barack Obama during last week's nationally televised speech to Congress.
The rare resolution of disapproval was pushed through by Democrats insisting that Wilson, a South Carolina lawmaker, had violated basic rules of decorum and civility in his outburst. Republicans dismissed the vote as a political "witch hunt" and a waste of precious time and taxpayers' money.
Wilson had called the White House to apologize shortly after the incident, and he said at the time that the president "graciously accepted my apology and the issue is over." Republicans agreed, but several Democrats pressed the issue.
The final tally late Tuesday was 240-179, generally but not entirely along party lines. It was 233 Democrats and seven Republicans voting to chastise Wilson, 167 Republicans and 12 Democrats opposing the measure and five Democrats merely voting "present."
Two lawmakers from Wisconsin crossed party lines, Democrat Gwen Moore and Republican Tom Petri.
From Newsweek:
As expected, the House voted this evening to censure Rep. Joe “You Lie!” Wilson (R-S.C.) for interrupting President Obama’s speech to Congress last week. The vote was 240-179, breaking down largely along party lines. Yet there were a few notable splits: 12 Democrats voted against the resolution, including two of the party’s most liberal members: Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Jim McDermott of Washington State. “It does not further the process of civility in the House,” McDermott told Newsweek after the vote. “He apologized to the president, and the apology was accepted. That’s all there needs to be.” Five other Dems voted “present” during the vote, including Rep. Barney Frank, who told reporters earlier Wednesday that he didn’t support the resolution. “I think it’s bad precedent to put us in charge of deciding whether people act like jerks,” Frank said. “I don’t have time to monitor everyone’s civility.” Still, 7 Republicans crossed party lines to support the Wilson censure, including Rep. Tom Petri from Wisconsin. “The resolution stated that the House doesn’t approve of Mr. Wilson’s actions on the floor, and Mr. Petri doesn’t approve of those actions,” Niel Wright, Petri’s spokesman told Newsweek. “He didn’t want to be on the record approving of it, which would have been a nay vote, so he voted yea.” Er, okay. After the jump, a fill list of Democrats and Republicans who crossed party lines on the Wilson vote.
Here's the list of those splitting with their parties:
Dem Nays (12)
Michael Arcuri (NY)
William Delahunt (MA)
Gabrielle Giffords (AZ)
Maurice Hinchey (NY)
Paul Hodes (NH)
Dennis Kucinich (OH)
Dan Maffei (NY)
Eric Massa (NY)
Jim McDermott (WA)
Gwen Moore (WI)
Gene Taylor (MS)
Harry Teague (NM)
Dem Presents (5)
Eliot Engel (NY)
Bill Foster (IL)
Barney Frank (MA)
Carol Shea-Porter (NH)
Ike Skelton (MO)
Republican yeas (7)
Joseph Cao (LA)
Jo Ann Emerson (MO)
Jeff Flake (AZ)
Bob Inglis (SC)
Walter Jones (NC)
Tom Petri (WI)
Dana Rohrabacher (CA)
I'm surprised by Gwen Moore's vote. It's very unlike her. Perhaps she was confused and meant to vote yea.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel provides this explanation:
Moore said through a spokeswoman that she voted against the resolution because she wanted to keep her "eyes on the prize," referring to health care reform efforts.
I don't think so.
She was part of the efforts to impeach President Bush. I can't believe Moore was concerned about voting to rebuke Joe Wilson.

Bill Maher: Obama, Drudge, and Subliminal Racism
Bill Maher thinks racism plays a factor in how conservatives react to Obama, even if it's just a subliminal thing.
Maher says examples of Drudge headlines are revealing:
This is funny, but only to a certain extent, because charges of racism are being tossed around by Obama supporters.
Maureen Dowd didn't hesitate to call Joe Wilson a racist for calling out Obama for lying.
Surrounded by middle-aged white guys — a sepia snapshot of the days when such pols ran Washington like their own men’s club — Joe Wilson yelled “You lie!” at a president who didn’t.
But, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!
...Some people just can’t believe a black man is president and will never accept it.
There are plenty of other similar examples. Here are just a few:
Keith Olbermann
David Sirota
Janeane Garofalo
Chris Matthews
NAACP Chairman Julian Bond
New York Gov. David Paterson
I think these libs leveling the racism accusations are really just cases of the pot calling the kettle black.
Many have no problem when libs engage in disgusting displays of racism. Racist imagery is justified when the target is a black conservative.
Examples here:

Maureen Dowd: Joe Wilson, Racist
Maureen Dowd, and those of her liberal elitist ilk, are a disgrace.
In her column today, "Boy, Oh, Boy," Dowd shamelessly plays the race card when writing about Joe Wilson and Obama.
She has really outdone herself this time.
Dowd claims:
The normally nonchalant Barack Obama looked nonplussed, as Nancy Pelosi glowered behind.
Surrounded by middle-aged white guys — a sepia snapshot of the days when such pols ran Washington like their own men’s club — Joe Wilson yelled “You lie!” at a president who didn’t.
YOU LIE, DOWD!
Obama did lie to the American people.
But, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!
The outburst was unexpected from a milquetoast Republican backbencher from South Carolina who had attracted little media attention. Now it has made him an overnight right-wing hero, inspiring “You lie!” bumper stickers and T-shirts.
...The congressman, we learned, belonged to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, led a 2000 campaign to keep the Confederate flag waving above South Carolina’s state Capitol and denounced as a “smear” the true claim of a black woman that she was the daughter of Strom Thurmond, the ’48 segregationist candidate for president. Wilson clearly did not like being lectured and even rebuked by the brainy black president presiding over the majestic chamber.
I’ve been loath to admit that the shrieking lunacy of the summer — the frantic efforts to paint our first black president as the Other, a foreigner, socialist, fascist, Marxist, racist, Commie, Nazi; a cad who would snuff old people; a snake who would indoctrinate kids — had much to do with race.
...But Wilson’s shocking disrespect for the office of the president — no Democrat ever shouted “liar” at W. when he was hawking a fake case for war in Iraq — convinced me: Some people just can’t believe a black man is president and will never accept it.
Dowd makes me absolutely sick.
Her hypocrisy is nauseating. How can this woman be lecturing anyone about a "shocking disrespect for the office of the president"??? Give me a freaking break!
The years of aspersions cast at President Bush by Dowd, by Obama, and by the leadership of the Democrat party don't begin to compare with Joe Wilson's regrettable outburst.
It's idiotic for them to be claiming they're civil, that they take the high road in political debate. It's more than idiotic. It's a bald-faced lie.
And about the racism accusations--
DISGUSTING.
Again and again, the libs insist that opposition to Obama is grounded in race. That is so ugly. It's so sinister and so divisive.
When I refute Obama's claims and when I point out his many, many lies and broken promises, it has nothing to do with his skin color, just as when I reveal Dowd for the liar and the hypocrite that she is it has nothing to do with gender.
Wilson does not plan on apologizing for his outburst again, nor should he.
Video.
Once is enough. Obama accepted Wilson's apology on Wednesday night. The case is closed.
It should be noted that President Bush never received apologies from Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Russ Feingold, Democrat hacks in the lib media, etc., for their terribly unfair, disparaging, disrespectful and inappropriate remarks.
The list is endless and the apologies are long, LONG overdue.
Dowd owes Wilson an immediate apology for calling him a racist.

White House Agrees with Joe Wilson
I guess Joe Wilson's "You lie" got through to Obama and the White House.
Obama has been claiming that ILLEGAL immigrants would not be covered by ObamaCare, a claim he reiterated in his address on Wednesday night.
OBAMA: There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false.
(Grumbling)
The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.
JOE WILSON: You lie!
(Booing)
OBAMA: That's not true.
It's interesting that Obama has insisted again and again that ILLEGAL immigrants wouldn't be covered, yet the White House now stands with the Republicans, calling for specific language in the bill to keep taxpayers from providing individuals in the country illegally with health insurance.
From MSNBC:
The White House tonight is providing the below clarification on what the president's health-care proposals would mean when it comes to the issue of illegal immigrants.
The question, as we all know, arises from the Wilson "You lie" outburst, and the core claim that notwithstanding specific bill language barring illegal immigrants from participating in the "exchange," as a practical matter, there is no way of verifying the citizenship of applicants -- which is the current state of play. Republicans say that then means illegal immigrants would end up being enrolled in plans -- bill language or no bill language.
Today, for the first time as far as we know, the administration is backing a provision that would require proof of citizenship before someone could enroll in a plan selected on the exchange.
The bullet points sent tonight by the White House:---Undocumented immigrants would not be able to buy private insurance on the exchange.
---Those who are lawfully present in this country would be able to participate.
Undocumented immigrants would be able to buy insurance in the non-exchange private market, just as they do today. That market will shrink as the exchange takes hold, but it will still exist and will be subject to reforms such as the bans on pre-existing conditions and caps.
---Verification will be required when purchasing health insurance on the exchange. One option is the SAVE program (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) which states currently use to make sure that undocumented immigrants don't participate in safety-net programs for which they are ineligible.
---There would be no change in the law that requires emergency rooms to treat people who need emergency care, including undocumented immigrants. There is already a federal grant program that compensates states for emergency room costs associated with treatment of undocumented immigrants, a provision sponsored by a Republican lawmaker.
I guess Joe Wilson's outburst was effective.
More likely, polling had a lot to do with this change, and the Gang of Six.
I don't see this as a concession by the White House. I see it as damage control.

It's kind of funny. Last night was Obama's big speech, his address to a joint session of Congress.
But it seems that the most important words uttered in the Capitol, the ones most analyzed, weren't said by Obama.
They were said, shouted, by Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina.
Just two words have thrust him into the national spotlight.
Video.
Transcript
OBAMA: There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false.
(Grumbling)
The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.
JOE WILSON: You lie!
(Booing)
OBAMA: That's not true. And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up – under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.
When Obama said, "That's not true," in response to Wilson's comment, it was one of the only times he strayed from his prepared remarks on the teleprompter.
From the Associated Press:
Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., tried to call Obama to apologize in person, but ended up speaking to White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.
The contrite congressman, "expressed his apologies" to Emanuel, not the president at whom he had shouted a few hours earlier, Wilson's office said.
By that time, Wilson's House Web site had crashed and he had taken a brutal beating on his Twitter page for breaching protocol and good manners during a presidential speech to a joint session of Congress.
"This evening I let my emotions get the best of me," Wilson said in a statement. "While I disagree with the president's statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility."
Wilson's outburst came after Obama said that extending health care to all Americans who seek it would not mean insuring illegal immigrants.
"You lie!" Wilson shouted from his seat on the Republican side of the chamber.
Republicans froze, with several looking in Wilson's direction.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi directed a fierce frown at him; first lady Michelle Obama pursed her lips and shook her head from side to side. Vice President Joe Biden looked down and shook his head, too.
...Obama's Republican rival from last year's presidential race for the White House defended the president.
Wilson's behavior was "totally disrespectful," Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said on CNN. "There is no place for it in that setting, or any other, and he should apologize for it immediately."
From the New York Times:
It was a rare breach of the protocol that governs ritualistic events in the Capitol.
...His eruption — in response to Mr. Obama’s statement that Democratic health proposals would not cover illegal immigrants — stunned members of both parties in the House chamber.
Democrats said it showed lack of respect for the office of the presidency and was reminiscent of Republican disruptions at recent public forums on health care.
“It is outrageous,” said Representative Joseph Crowley, Democrat of New York, who said it reminded him of the “antics that are being used to disrupt and fog what is going on.”
After the speech, Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff who sat a few rows in front of Mr. Wilson, said he immediately approached senior Republican lawmakers to encourage them to identify the heckler and urge him to issue an apology quickly.
“No president has ever been treated like that. Ever,” Mr. Emanuel said.
Other Democrats said they did not want to dwell on the outburst or allow it to overshadow what they saw as an effective address by the president. But they also said it bolstered their contention that some Republicans were not interested in constructive dialogue, and they noted that Democratic plans specifically barred coverage for illegal immigrants.
Republicans also said the heckling was out of line. “I think we ought to treat the president with respect,” said Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, “and anything other than that is not appropriate.”
First, it should be noted that Obama was lying. Joe Wilson was right.
Congressional Research Service: Illegal Aliens Can Receive Benefits Under House Health Care Bill
Tuesday, the Congressional Research Service (CRS), the "research arm" for the United States Congress, issued a report validating an analysis by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), that illegal aliens would be able to receive benefits under the House health care reform bill, America's Affordable Health Care Act of 2009 (H.R. 3200).
The report, Treatment of Noncitizens in H.R. 3200, states definitively, "H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitizens - whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently - participating in the Exchange." H.R. 3200 establishes a Health Insurance Exchange which would provide individuals and small businesses with access to health care plans, including the "public option" to be managed by the government.
CRS also confirms FAIR's assessment that the House bill does not include a mechanism to prevent illegal aliens from receiving "affordability credits" that would subsidize the purchase of private health insurance. CRS specifically noted the absence "of a provision in the bill specifying the verification procedure." Because the language is ambiguous, all CRS could reasonably conclude is that any eligibility determination would be the responsibility of the Health Choices Commissioner.
The CRS analysis comes after weeks of denials by Members of Congress that illegal aliens could receive benefits under the House bill. These denials were echoed by countless media and health care "experts" who dismissed public concerns as myths, or as politically orchestrated attacks.
"Case closed. Illegal aliens will be eligible to participate in the health care program offered by the House bill unless Congress acts to amend the bill," stated Dan Stein, president of FAIR. "The loopholes and omissions in the House bill are not there by accident," continued Stein. "These loopholes were intended to extend benefits to illegal aliens while allowing Members of Congress to deny those facts to the American people."
The House Ways & Means Committee had the opportunity to include language that would have barred illegal aliens from enrolling in the proposed public option or receiving the affordability credits, but chose not to. An amendment offered by Rep. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) would have applied the same eligibility verification procedures for coverage under H.R. 3200 that have been used for years to prove eligibility for Medicaid. That amendment was rejected by a party-line vote.
..."For the past month, irate citizens, concerned that their tax dollars will be used to fund health care for illegal aliens, have been unfairly portrayed as uninformed rabble by their elected representatives and a host of media organizations," said Stein. "It is time for the politicians to close the loopholes, and for the media establishment to acknowledge that they got it wrong."
Second, Wilson's outburst was completely out of line.
There are no excuses for Wilson's behavior, heckling Obama.
There also are NO excuses for Obama's behavior, lying to the American people about his health care plan and ILLEGAL immigrants.
