Pierre Omidyar, Those 1,100 Former Prosecutors, and Never Trumpers

A letter calling for Attorney General Bill Barr to resign, signed by 1,100 former Department of Justice prosecutors, was breathlessly reported by the Democrat/Deep State media.

Since that news was dismissed by most discerning individuals, the deranged Trump haters needed to report that more ex-DOJ officials are calling for Barr to resign.

Some 2,000 former Justice Department officials who served in Republican and Democratic administrations are urging Attorney General William Barr to resign after the department intervened in the case of Roger Stone, a longtime ally of President Trump's, triggering claims of political interference.

The Justice Department alumni made their request to Barr in an open letter published Sunday and said the move by top officials at the department to overrule federal prosecutors in Stone's case was "unheard of."

Initially, some 1,100 signed on but that number almost doubled, hitting 2,003 during the day Monday.

More calls for resignation. More lame open letters signed by "officials."

We've had so much of this crap the past three years it's just ignored.

The Leftists need to refresh their methods. They don't work.

Lawyers opposing Brett Kavanaugh didn't keep him from becoming a Supreme Court justice.

Ex-DOJ goofs aren't going to matter.

The letter gives the Democrat/Deep State media some fuel for their Fake News. That's it's ultimate purpose.

If there's anything interesting about the letter, it's the creation of the stunt and its funding.

The headline sounded ominous: “Former Justice Dept. Lawyers Press for Barr to Step Down,” blared an article in Sunday’s New York Times. More than 1,100 former federal prosecutors signed a letter to condemn Attorney General William Barr and encourage Justice Department employees to tattle on the nation’s top lawman if they see anything naughty.

...Times reporter Katie Benner, trying to make the stunt look like a legitimate grassroots effort, attributed the letter to Protect Democracy, which she described as a “nonprofit legal group.” But Protect Democracy is not an organic activist group spontaneously created by high-minded legal experts alarmed by Trump’s alleged flouting of the rule of law. Protect Democracy was launched in early 2017 as part of an extensive anti-Trump operation managed by a leftwing tech billionaire: Pierre Omidyar, the founder of eBay. This is who is behind Protect Democracy and a number of other nonprofits formed to destroy the president.

In 2018, according to the group’s most recent tax filing, Protect Democracy collected nearly $7 million in donations; Omidyar’s most politically-active nonprofit, Democracy Fund, has donated $2 million since 2017. Democracy Fund is spending tens of millions each year to underwrite dozens of anti-Trump projects. “Over the past two years, I have seen alarming and sometimes unprecedented violations of our country’s democratic norms,” Joe Goldman, the fund’s president, wrote in 2018.

Protect Democracy houses a number of former Democratic staffers—including a former aide to U.S. Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.)—and Obama White House alumni. Ricki Seidman, last seen advising Christine Blasey Ford, is a director for Protect Democracy.

Several NeverTrumpers also are involved with Protect Democracy; National Review columnists Mona Charen and Linda Chavez, ABC News pundit Matthew Dowd, and failed presidential candidate Evan McMullin serve as advisors. As I’ve reported before, Omidyar is the sugar daddy for many NeverTrump outlets. The Bulwark, the offshoot of the shuttered Weekly Standard, is partially funded by Omidyar: Charlie Sykes, the Bulwark’s editor-in-chief, serves on the board of Democracy Fund.

Omidyar also funds Republicans for the Rule of Law, headed by Bill Kristol; Lawfare, a central peddler of Russian collusion hoax propaganda; R Street, home to disgraced FBI lawyer James Baker; and Stand-Up Republic, headed by McMullin. All have been on the attack against Trump and Barr.

Pierre Omidyar, this Leftist billionaire, is bankrolling the allegedly conservative operations of these allegedly principled conservatives?

Democrat/Leftist Omidyar funds the Bulwark.

Charlie Sykes is on the board of Democracy Fund, Democrat/Leftist Omidyar’s most politically-active nonprofit.

Discussing Wilson's absolutely outrageous comments about Trump supporters with someone yesterday, I learned Wilson calls himself a Republican strategist and he is part of the Never Trump gang. Apparently, he's a Charlie Sykes podcast guy.

Wilson is awful. He was having a great time mocking Trump supporters on national TV. His little performance there is going to follow him, no doubt an appearance that will live in infamy.

All these Never Trump people claim superiority based on their alleged intelligence and their adherence to virtuous principles. They act as if they are beyond reproach, while stubbornly refusing to support one of the most successful presidents we've had in decades or acknowledging his long, long list of accomplishments for the betterment of our country.

Why?

Because of the president's character.

Charlie Sykes props up the positively abhorrent behavior of his buddy Rick Wilson and by lashing out at Ivanka Trump's completely reasonable comments.

That is disgraceful.

Sykes didn't condemn Wilson, Wajahat Ali, and Don Lemon for their truly despicable display. Sykes didn't stand up for the Trump supporters he knows can read and spell and use maps.

What the hell?

I can't help but be especially offended. Many of us in Wisconsin were longtime listeners to his WTMJ radio program. What happened to the Charlie Sykes who did that show? Was that just a character he played because it made sense for his career at the time? Is the current incarnation the fake?

I don't know.

Bottom line: Rick Wilson's remarks were so ugly it's hard to believe some people, like Sykes, do not have a problem with them.

Charlie Sykes is sitting behind a desk in a sparse, disheveled office—blank walls lined with empty filing cabinets, windows covered with crooked blinds—as he tries to conjure the perfect metaphor for The Bulwark, the anti–Donald Trump conservative news site he recently helped start.

“We are the ultimate wilderness!” he declares to me.

But that doesn’t sound quite lonely enough for the political niche they’re occupying, so he tries again: “We’re on a desert island.”

Sykes continues to riff like this in his chirpy, midwestern accent, comparing The Bulwark’s writers to a band of “Somali pirates,” and then to a contingent of “guerrilla fighters.” He’s so enthusiastic about the exercise that before long I am tossing out my own overwrought suggestions. Perhaps, I muse at one point, they are soldiers on the final front of the Republican Civil War—making one last stand before the forces of Trumpism complete their conquest.

Sykes nods eagerly, and for a moment he seems caught up in the romance of this imagery. But then reality reasserts itself.

“The analogy [I’m] really afraid of,” he confesses, “is that we’re the Japanese soldiers who don’t know the war is over, and we’re still hiding out in the cave.”

Perfect analogy. Nailed it. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Scroll through the home page on any given day, and you’ll find one lively polemic after another calling out Trump-friendly politicos by name—often in witheringly personal terms.

In recent weeks, the site has run a scornful piece on the former White House official Sebastian Gorka (“a ridiculous figure”), and another on the high-profile #MAGA activist Candace Owens (“not a serious person”). When Trump failed to secure funding for a border wall with his government shutdown, The Bulwark compiled a meticulous list of conservative commentators who had cheered on the strategy. And in a particularly biting essay, the writer Andrew Egger examined how a radio interview between Milo Yiannopoulos (a “loathsome and tiresome egotist”) and Eric Metaxas (a “pop theologian”) highlighted “the political corruption of the modern evangelical movement.”

Sykes admits that some of these early targets have constituted “low-hanging fruit.” But in the coming months, he tells me, The Bulwark will home in on a specific class of “grifters and trolls”—those opportunistic Trump enablers who still get invited on Meet the Press and write for prestigious newspapers. To Sykes, these are the true sellouts, and he wants to ensure that their public flirtations with Trumpism leave a stench on them.

“A lot of folks have had a free shot to get in bed with some of the most disreputable [people] out there, and they still have a veneer of respectability,” Sykes says. “We want to raise the opportunity cost.”

Asked for examples of prospective targets, Sykes doesn’t have to think long before rattling off a list of high-status commentators (Marc Thiessen, Hugh Hewitt), think tankers (Henry Olsen, Victor Davis Hanson), and politicos (Bill Bennett).

“The Sean Hannitys to me are not that offensive,” Sykes says of the Fox News Trump booster. “Because Sean Hannity is dumb as a box of rocks—he doesn’t know any better.” (Through a spokesperson, Hannity responded, “If Charlie and the rest of the sore-loser, establishment Never Trumpers had their way, Hillary would be president … I wish them well supporting the next radical socialist that runs for president.”)

That's pretty brutal, born of desperation.

It appears their tactic is to go low to get noticed.

Here's the thing: If the Never Trumpers pummel the President of the United States and conservative commentators and no one is around to hear them, do they make a sound?

If the Never Trumpers at The Bulwark consider themselves to be outlaws, I guess that's one way of perceiving what they're doing.

I think they're simply in denial.

They are the World War II Japanese soldiers still fighting a war they lost.

Breitbart Attacks Vukmir for Never Trump Staffers' Tweets

Breitbart has a lengthy piece detailing the anti-Trump tweets of the staffers of Wisconsin U.S. Senate primary candidate Leah Vukmir.

Matthew Boyle writes:

Leah Vukmir, a candidate for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate in Wisconsin against pro-Trump businessman and Marine Kevin Nicholson, has made the decision to surround herself with opponents of President Donald Trump from the so-called Never Trump movement.

At least three of her staffers have very publicly declared allegiance to Never Trump, and regularly tweet or have tweeted harsh rightwing criticisms of the president.

The candidate herself and one of her staffers back in 2015 mocked supporters of now-President Trump as “Trumpkins,” and her staffers have by and large declared their allegiance to “Never Trump.” Not only that, staffers have made comments bashing Fox News host Sean Hannity, propping up then-Fox News host Megyn Kelly, questioning the judgment of Donald Trump, Jr., wishing Trump would be knocked out of the presidential race, and criticizing Trump even long after he became president.

Most of the staffers' anti-Trump tweets cited by Breitbart date back to 2016, before the presidential election. Some go back as far as 2011. Breitbart found very few anti-Trump tweets after Trump's election and his historic Wisconsin victory.

The two tweets Breitbart highlights from Leah Vukmir were posted on September 29, 2015.

Vukmir, in two tweets on Sept. 29, 2015, derided supporters of President Trump as “Trumpkins.” The term comes from devout Never Trumper Charlie Sykes, who Vukmir gives credit for coining the term in both tweets:

In the second tweet, she even praises Sykes saying the Never Trump leader should trademark the term “Trumpkins” including a symbol for doing so:

It comes as no surprise to those of us in Wisconsin that Republican political players were deriding Trump the person and Trump the candidate. Charlie Sykes led the Never Trump movement using his talk radio program as a platform.

At the time, I wrote that "Trumpkins" was an offensive term. Trump supporters were mocked, just as they continue to be mocked by Democrats, Never Trumpers, and their media accomplices today. Sykes not only effusively used "Trumpkins" to marginalize those of us refusing to take part in giving Hillary Clinton the presidency, he called Trump voters racist. He declared Hillary to be preferable to Trump.

It was ugly. So, that's the context.

What's left out in the Breitbart piece is that Leah Vukmir eventually supported Trump's candidacy. She was not part of the Never Trump crowd that stubbornly refused to vote for Trump. Vukmir voted for Trump. It's disingenuous to paint her as an anti-Trump agent.

What's also left out of the Breitbart article is that Kevin Nicholson was a Democrat star, active in the party, even securing a full-time position at the DNC in Washington.

His high-profile stint as a Democrat, followed by what is better described as an evolution rather than a road-to-Damascus conversion, offers lip-licking openings for opponents to question his credibility, consistency and character. What has turned up so far—a laudatory letter he penned in 2000 to the pro-abortion group EMILY’s List; questions about his voting record in the 2008 primary; personal attacks from his former college roommate—are the political equivalent of body blows.

One of Nicholson's biggest problems may be his documented pro-abortion past.

I guess Breitbart has to dredge up old anti-Trump tweets made by staffers in an effort to discredit Vukmir considering Nicholson has that albatross.

It's a desperate move, but we know Vukmir. We know she made it clear she intended to vote for Trump in 2016, and didn't give in to the Never Trumpers. We know her pro-life record. We know her role in enacting Gov. Scott Walker's reforms that have put Wisconsin back on track and moving forward again.

Some negative tweets made by staffers about Trump in 2016 are not going to erase Vukmir's stellar conservative record serving the people of Wisconsin.

Charlie Sykes, former Milwaukee conservative talk radio host, writes:

As America continues its downward spiral of incivility, we have entered the Summer of Jerkitude. (I had thought about using a different word that ended in “-holery,” but wasn’t sure it would pass muster with the editors of a tasteful and intellectual publication like THE WEEKLY STANDARD.)

But “jerkitude” is a useful concept for our national moment of irritation and obnoxiousness. As it happens, some years ago, Eric Schwitzgebel, a professor of philosophy at the University of California, Riverside, developed a comprehensive theory of the essence of jerkitude:

The jerk culpably fails to appreciate the perspectives of others around him, treating them as tools to be manipulated or idiots to be dealt with rather than as moral and epistemic peers. . . .The jerk himself is both intellectually and emotionally defective, and what he defectively fails to appreciate is both the intellectual and emotional perspectives of the people around him.

Apparently, Sykes doesn't recognize himself. He uses a definition of jerk that applies to him.

During the 2016 election and, I imagine, for more than 500 days of the Trump presidency, Sykes has mocked the president and his supporters. He called his talk radio audience racists. He routinely pushes the narrative that one must be out of one's mind to support Trump. Of course, he mocks Trump's appearance, too. He echoes the Democrat/Leftist mantras.

I guess Sykes' persona of jerkitude plays well on MSNBC, but he is unrecognizable to many of his former listeners in southeast Wisconsin, undergoing a dramatic transformation.

In his piece, Sykes details recent displays of incivility, including those involving Maxine Waters, Seth Rogen, Robert De Niro, Corey Lewandowski, and Stephanie Wilkinson, owner of The Red Hen.

Then, he addresses what we experienced in Wisconsin and the similarity of that insanity to the current national political divisiveness.

...As a political strategy, this effusion of rage undoubtedly does fire up the bases on both sides, and that seems to be the theme of this year’s midterm election. But a cautionary note is in order.

As a Wisconsinite, all of this seems familiar. During the battle over Act 10—Scott Walker’s proposal to limit the collective bargaining powers of public employees—the over-the-top incivility of the protesters turned the tide of political opinion against them. A cascade of obscenities, threats against Walker and his supporters, and the disruption of events for disabled athletes alienated swing voters for more than half a decade.

Given the emotionalism of our own angry moment, it may seem pointless to suggest that a wiser and more effective strategy would be for partisans to appeal to the better angels of our nature. So, instead, perhaps, they should consider this:

Not a single swing voter was persuaded to embrace Seth Rogen’s cause by his treatment of Ryan; Lewandowski did not win a single crossover vote for the GOP by mocking a disabled child; and not a single independent voter in a key congressional district was inspired to vote for a Democrat by the expulsion of Sarah Sanders from the Red Hen restaurant. Instead, the tribal lines were reinforced, with each side reinforcing their collective sense of victimization and fury.

Meanwhile, voters who are part of an inchoate coalition of the decent found themselves more alienated than ever by the jerks who now dominate our political culture.

Yes, it's funny that Sykes acts as if he's not an active participant in the Summer of Jerkitude. He genuinely seems to believe that he hasn't been a jerk, that he has behaved in a civil manner and is above all the ugliness.

That doesn't fly here in Wisconsin.

Given his experience with how the Leftists behaved in Wisconsin during the Act 10 battle, Sykes should realize that his often vicious attacks on conservatives did not persuade a single Wisconsin voter to abandon Trump and, in effect, support the Leftist agenda.

After predicting a crowded primary for U.S. Senate, Sykes further piled on the Milwaukee County sheriff as he added:

I do think that Sheriff Clarke in the last year has really sort of "beclowned" himself, and I refer to him as kind of "my Frankenstein monster." There was a time when Sheriff Clarke had some substantive things to say, but clearly the ego and the big hat, I think, have gotten the best of him. But I don't see that as a plausible path for him.

Reid referring to Sykes' "change of heart" is hilarious.

Yes, we all know about that profound "change of heart."

Because I don't watch MSNBC, I don't deal with that 180 Reid speaks of as a "change of heart."

I assume most loyal listeners of Sykes' old radio program aren't aware of the post-620 WTMJ Sykes, and just how radically his heart has apparently changed.

Sykes spent years trashing MSNBC and its propaganda. I doubt Sykes' audience made the leap to MSNBC with him. I doubt the former audience has adopted the Leftist mindset like him.

There is "beclowning" occurring. That much is certain. However, David Clarke hasn't beclowned himself. Sykes has.

If Clarke were the Republican candidate challenging extremist Leftist Tammy Baldwin, Wisconsin Republicans would support him, though I think it's unlikely he will be Baldwin's opponent.

Someone needs to remind Sykes that Wisconsin went Republican for the first time since Ronald Reagan. Wisconsinites preferred Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton. We also reelected Republican Ron Johnson, handing Russ Feingold another defeat. Those same people would likely get behind Clarke to oust Baldwin.

Sykes needs to stop viewing reality through the Leftist lens.

The whole "my Frankenstein monster" thing smacks of egomania on the part of Sykes.

If Wisconsinites viewed Sykes as our leader, Trump would not have carried the state.

Sykes said, "There was a time when Sheriff Clarke had some substantive things to say, but clearly the ego and the big hat, I think, have gotten the best of him."

It pains me to say that "clearly the ego" has gotten the best of Sykes.

This is so inconsistent with his years and years of conservative talk.

The MSNBC host ended the segment by jokingly commenting that she had brought her two guests together because seeing them agree would be "unexpected," even though there's actually nothing "unexpected" about seeing a "conservative" and a liberal agree on MSNBC. Reid: "We did this segment specifically to get State Senate Lena Turner [sic] and Charlie Sykes to agree on TV because no one would be expecting that. So we do the unexpected here on AM Joy."

Mark Levin: Charlie Sykes a 'RINO'

On his radio program on March 16, Mark Levin discussed talk radio, and the importance of the host being honest.

He focused on some conservative talk radio hosts going around trashing their past views as well as their audiences, and the Leftist media using them to serve their agenda.

Levin talked about the need for hosts to respect the audience.

Listen to the audio. It begins at 18:00. There is a reference to a Wisconsin radio host at 26:00.

MARK LEVIN: I'm only pointing this out right now because, well, you have a right to know. Because there's others out there, they're on a, well, I don't know what they're doing. They find some local host in Wisconsin who's on the attack. The guy spent years as a RINO behind a microphone, and now he's on the attack.... Others going around apologizing for who they are and what they were, this year, last year, the year before. Well, just be yourself.... Don't be a phony.

While Levin never mentions Charlie Sykes by name, he must be referring to him. What other local Wisconsin talk radio host was on the air for years, has flipped so dramatically and gone on the attack?

I didn't want to believe that Charlie Sykes would criticize and mock that incredible moment during Trump's address when Navy SEAL Ryan Owens and his widow were honored by the president of the United States and both houses of Congress.

Well, you can see for yourself. I'm not sure how long the video will stay up on YouTube, but this is not good.

Sykes agrees with Maher's criticism of Carryn Owens' appearance at Trump's address to a joint session of Congress. Both Sykes and Maher were disturbed that pundits and the public "fell for this."

Why can't these people leave Carryn Owens alone? Why can't they pick at Trump for something else, anything else, except that moment during the speech?

CHARLIE SYKES: I've got to make a confession, because when I was watching that in the moment, I was moved by it because she was real.

BILL MAHER: Moved by her.

SYKES: Right. I was moved because she was real. And I woke up the next morning thinking, OK, you know, this was a great moment, but then realizing the incredible cynicism of it.

MAHER: Thank you.

SYKES: And I do think that there is almost a battered pundit syndrome going on here where all the pundits are like, 'Hey, so daddy didn't come, you know, our abusive daddy didn't come home drunk and beat us tonight. He's the best father ever!'

Later, Sykes said Trump turned the extended ovation into a reality show.

SYKES: Then he turns it into a reality TV show by saying, 'You just set a record for applause.' So, I mean, really, how deeply crass was that moment?

I am genuinely sorry I saw that tweet and found the clip from Maher's show.

I knew Maher was quick to call out Carryn Owens because she "allowed herself to be used as his prop like that," but I didn't need to get it from Sykes.

Don't they realize THEY ARE DOING THE SAME THING when they use that moment of such deep emotion, her moment Tuesday night, to slam Trump?

If they believe Trump exploited her as a prop, they need to acknowledge that they are exploiting her as well by using her to attack Trump.

For the love of God, why can't they have the decency to leave the widow alone? Why can't they leave her out of their whining and joking?

Of course, I expect Maher to be a jerk; but after all his work with the Honor Flight and veterans, it's tough to see the lack of respect Sykes showed Carryn Owens and her fallen husband, Ryan.

NewsBusters Blasts Sykes

Some respected conservative outlets are not pleased with the role former Milwaukee conservative talk radio host Charlie Sykes has chosen.

In another hilarious case of irony, The 11th Hour host and serial liar Brian Williams teed up guest Charlie Sykes on Tuesday to lambaste conservative media (like the one you’re reading) for being why no one trusts mainstream media in the age of Trump and alternative facts.

Sykes and Williams offered no arguments or examples of how the establishment media have torpedoed their own credibility with false stories and a decidedly liberal slant. Instead, it was an exclusive attack on conservatives for supposedly enabling President Trump to offer misstatements without consequences.

Overall, the former conservative host stated that his “concern is not just that's [Trump’s] lying” but “[i]t's an attack on the concept of the truth itself — of credibility and my main concern is that you'll have millions of voters at some point who will basically say, ‘what is truth?’”

Failing to realize that he’s joined an echo-chamber in which Manhattan elites sit around reading The New York Times and The New Yorker while watching The Daily Show, Sykes knocked anyone supporting Trump as “pick[ing] the facts that confirm our bias, that support our guy and ignore the facts that don't support our guy.”

“[A]nd then we're in a very, very, you know, dangerous place for democracy,” he surmised.

Once again, the irony can’t be lost on how this is occurring on a Brian Williams-hosted program.

Continuing to parody the likes of [CNN's Brian] Stelter, Sykes compared the current United States to that of countries under the rule of authoritarism:

Now, this is something that, in authoritarian regimes, people are used to, which is that the leader will define what is the truth. And all criticism is delegitimized. By the way, criticism from federal judges, criticism from the media, criticism from the intelligence agencies, that all of those sources of independent information or checks are basically — well and they are — and they are discredited.

“So what is the source of truth? Well it, comes from the leader. This, again, familiar to authoritarian regimes, very alien to a democratic society,” he concluded.

The media has done plenty to undermine their cause. Aside from their boy who cried wolf fears about past Republican candidates, their false stories, slanted analyses, and failed predictions stand out.

As the Federalist’s Daniel Payne wrote, the news media have published at least 16 different fake or false stories in the scant number of days since Trump was inaugurated on January 20.

If Sykes wants to blame conservatives for simply pointing out the faults of the mainstream media, perhaps he should instead emphasize that legacy media should think twice before concocting untrue narratives or going forward with stories without sufficient fact-checking.

How can Brian Williams be part of any discussion regarding the loss of credibility of the mainstream media?

Williams certainly belongs on the All-Star Team of most notorious liars in the media.

Clearly, committed individuals at the Media Research Center and at NewsBusters have toiled for years, exposing the lies of the Leftist media. They have been an invaluable source of truth and have provided a tremendous service.

They deserve respect. They have earned it.

Understandably, they don't appear to appreciate being slurred by Sykes.

Right Wisconsin and Neil Gorsuch

Regarding the insufferable Never Trump crowd of Wisconsin, I just want to put this out there.

Overall, I have chosen to disregard the Never Trump people since the election. They lost. They're irrelevant. They're not worth my time. But, this needs to be addressed. Although I'm pointing out the obvious, sometimes that needs to be done.

Today, Right Wisconsin, the self-identified conservative outlet, is singing the praises of President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.

[I]f he is confirmed Gorsuch will do more than fulfill a campaign promise by President Donald Trump. He will provide the swing vote on the court to stop a Progressive erosion of the meaning of the Constitution.

Perhaps the Democrats will drop their objections to Gorsuch when they realize that many of them failed to object to his appointment to the Appeals court. Probably not. At one time that would have been enough for the opposition party to approve such a qualified nominee. But Democratic base politics will mean Republicans will have a hard time getting the necessary Democrats to defect to end a filibuster.

We could really use Margaret Thatcher right now to caution Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that now is definitely not the time to go wobbly.

A few deep breaths first. OK.

During the election of 2016, Right Wisconsin was leading the troops against Trump, doing all they could to defeat the Republican nominee for president, which would have assured a Hillary Clinton victory.

Supreme Court be damned. It didn't matter because Trump was going to blow up the country, literally, according to a Right Wisconsin leader.

Now, Right Wisconsin has the audacity to evoke Margaret Thatcher. Right Wisconsin has the audacity to warn Mitch McConnell about going wobbly.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

First and foremost, Neil Gorsuch is why I voted for Donald Trump.

Wisconsin Trump voters, however reluctant, were incessantly chastised by the condescending Never Trump Wisconsin voices for our unconscionable support of this "fundamentally more repellent, dishonest figure" than Hillary Clinton. That was their stance and they never let up. They were principled. They behaved honorably.

The Right Wisconsin crew and allies warned potential Trump voters that Trump couldn't be trusted to nominate an originalist to the Supreme Court. WRONG!

As Trump noted in his brief address to the American people last night, he knows that Supreme Court nominees were critical in the decision process of many in the 2016 presidential election. He said, "Millions of voters said this was the single most important issue to them when they voted for me for president."

That's correct.

Trump delivered on his promise.

When I watched Judge Gorsuch speak last night, I kept thinking that it could have been Hillary and her radical Leftist nominee up there.

Because of a campaign strategy that worked and because of millions of people that voted like me, we have bolstered the Constitution for future generations.

Right Wisconsin and the Never Trump crowd tried to prevent that. They were willing to surrender the Supreme Court to the radical Leftists.

And they think they can lecture Republicans about going wobbly?

SERIOUSLY?

NO.

No, you can't, at least not without acknowledging that YOU actively sought the defeat of Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president.

Well, Charlie Sykes' retirement from radio didn't last long.

He has a new show on National Public Radio, produced by WNYC, New York Public Radio, and Minnesota Public Radio.

From Politico:

Conservative talk radio show host Charlie Sykes is returning to the airwaves as a co-host of a national public radio show produced by WNYC.

Skyes, who in October announced that he would step down from his daily talk radio show after 23 years, will join longtime WNYC radio personality Brian Lehrer, Minnesota Public Radio’s Kerri Miller and Kai Wright, formerly of The Nation, to serve as a co-host of "Indivisible," a weeknight call-in radio show. Wright, who had been co-host of two WNYC podcasts, will join WNYC full-time for the new show.

...The show, co-produced by WNYC and Minnesota Public Radio, will center on the concerns of listeners who call into the show from around the country. Sykes’ segment of the show will be on Wednesday nights, when he will “interview policy makers and engage listeners in conversation that weighs developments in the new administration’s first 100 days against American values and conservative principles,” WNYC said in a release. Lehrer’s segment will air on Tuesdays.

Sykes, who will continue to serve as editor in chief of RightWisconsin.com, became a national name last year after a contentious interview with Donald Trump solidified Sykes as a leading anti-Trump conservative voice. When he stepped down from his show in October, Sykes wrote that the conservative movement had been "badly damaged" and that the conservative media was "broken."

"I'm immensely flattered to be asked to participate in this ongoing conversation that I hope can help some us break out of our ideological bubbles," Sykes said in a statement.

MSNBC, NPR - makes sense.

I am not, nor have I ever been, trapped in an ideological bubble.

I'll let you in on a little secret. There's this thing called the Internet. You can live stream anything. Don't worry, Wisconsinites.

I've been listening to "radio" via the Internet since early in this century. I was a regular listener of programs before they were nationally syndicated. I listened to syndicated shows as they aired live rather than when local stations aired them. It's routine for me. When it comes to radio, the obstacles are easily overcome.

It's the end of an era.

Sykes was instrumental in Wisconsin's conservative movement. He's been reflecting on that as he looks back on his 23 years doing his WTMJ show. I've heard him take ownership of his role in assisting Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, Ron Johnson, and Reince Priebus become prominent political players.

The last couple of weeks, Sykes has played a lot of highlights from his time on the air. There have also been many special surprise guests honoring Sykes. (Scott Walker declared December 20th Charlie Sykes Day in Wisconsin.)

Listening to the show as it draws to an end, I'm reminded of all the hours I spent with Sykes over the span of years. Looking back is always kind of a bittersweet exercise, and this has been.

There's a lot to celebrate, and I do, but it requires some compartmentalization.

Sykes is celebrating his impact on the community and his role in Wisconsin conservatism. He has also decided to be vocal about abandoning it and apologizing for his "contributions."

For example, Sykes wrote an op-ed piece for the New York Times that appeared in the print edition on Sunday.

One staple of every radio talk show was, of course, the bias of the mainstream media. This was, indeed, a target-rich environment. But as we learned this year, we had succeeded in persuading our audiences to ignore and discount any information from the mainstream media. Over time, we’d succeeded in delegitimizing the media altogether — all the normal guideposts were down, the referees discredited.

That left a void that we conservatives failed to fill. For years, we ignored the birthers, the racists, the truthers and other conspiracy theorists who indulged fantasies of Mr. Obama’s secret Muslim plot to subvert Christendom, or who peddled baseless tales of Mrs. Clinton’s murder victims. Rather than confront the purveyors of such disinformation, we changed the channel because, after all, they were our allies, whose quirks could be allowed or at least ignored.

We destroyed our own immunity to fake news, while empowering the worst and most reckless voices on the right.

This was not mere naïveté. It was also a moral failure, one that now lies at the heart of the conservative movement even in its moment of apparent electoral triumph. Now that the election is over, don’t expect any profiles in courage from the Republican Party pushing back against those trends; the gravitational pull of our binary politics is too strong.

I’m only glad I’m not going to be a part of it anymore.

So now Sykes is happily turning his back on us, glad to be through with the sick and twisted world of talk radio, and asking forgiveness.

My problem: How do I celebrate someone while he sort of is spitting in my face?

I wish Sykes would acknowledge that not all conservatives and Trump voters are birthers, racists, misogynists, truthers, etc. Not all conservatives and Trump voters have difficulty distinguishing between reliable news stories and propaganda.

Sykes also did a recent NPR radio interview, again decrying the conservative movement.

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST: If you had to do it over again, what would you do differently?

CHARLIE SYKES: I think, in part, it would be to - in the 1990s, I encouraged more dialogue, more debate. And as things became more intense, I think I let that slide. One of the things that's happened in America is - you mentioned - is the - is this binary politics. And it's the increased tribalization - our tribe versus your tribe. And since they never talk with one another, it's very easy to demonize the other person. But the reality is that that becomes very, very easy then to become more extreme, more polarized. Whatever your guy does, whatever lies he tells, whatever gaffe he commits, you are going to overlook because, well, at least he's not that other person. He's not Hillary. He's not that other tribe because the other tribe is always, always worse.

MARTIN: Does this change your sense of yourself of what it means to be a conservative?

SYKES: You know, it does in this respect. I'm still a conservative, you know, someone who believes in limited government and balanced budgets and the Constitution. But I don't feel that I'm going to be part of a movement anymore. So if I'm a conservative, I will be a contrarian conservative, but certainly not a team player.

Sykes says, "if I'm a conservative."

To a real extent, he's backing away from his identity as a conservative. Of course, he has every right to believe what he wants to believe, do what he wants to do, and say what he wants to say. We all do.

I disagree with Sykes' generalizations about "where the right went wrong." I know it's the topic of a book he's writing, so he has reason to promote that theory.

However, it is indisputable that the election was a binary thing. Not supporting the Republican nominee meant supporting Hillary Clinton. That has nothing to do with tribalization or polarization or demonization. It was the reality.

I don't like being lumped in with this "tribe think" he's selling just because I, like Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, Ron Johnson, and others, voted for Trump. I don't like being dismissed as a loon because I made the choice to use my vote to keep Hillary out of power.

I took a principled stand, to do all I could to prevent a Hillary presidency, solely based on factual policy matters and facts about her corruption and lies. I wasn't swayed by fake news or goofy conspiracy crap. It was a completely rational choice that should be accepted as such, not insulted.

I understand how horrible it must have been to take the abuse he did for being Never Trump. I have sympathy for Sykes, for being bombarded with really ugly stuff. Of course, supporting Trump has been no picnic.

I wish Sykes would understand that supporting the Republican nominee doesn't necessarily mean one has lost one's mind. It doesn't mean conservatism is broken.

Compromising is often the only rational course of action given a set of circumstances. I am comfortable with my choice. I didn't lose my mind. Moreover, I don't feel the need to reject being labeled a conservative. I don't need to add qualifying adjectives like "contrarian" to my political identity.

So, when it comes to Sykes' last show, I have mixed feelings. There's an unfortunate awkwardness to the timing of the New York Times piece and the NPR interview, coloring things a bit negatively on the day of his last show.

Time to compartmentalize.

Like the act of compromise, it can be appropriate, even wise, to compartmentalize.

I can put Sykes' rejection of conservatism as well as his disparaging remarks about the talk radio audience aside and focus on the many years of great radio and intelligent conversation that took place on Midday with Charlie Sykes. It was a forum that brought out the best in many of us. I can celebrate Sykes' role in promoting the Honor Flight. It was a highly successful and important project.

For that and more, I am sincerely thankful for Sykes' time on the air and all that he shared with his audience.

We had a good time and we accomplished good things together. That exists as truth. No change of heart or change of perspective can alter the reality of what took place with Sykes on the radio and with his listening audience for over two decades.

Today, with the departure of Charlie Sykes from his program on 620 WTMJ, the metro Milwaukee area loses a voice that made a difference.

With respect, gratitude, and heartfelt appreciation, I celebrate that voice.

I heard the last half hour of Charlie Sykes' radio program this morning.

He interviewed the Speaker of House, Paul Ryan, less than 24 hours before Election Day. While Ryan presented the message of the need for Republican unity to promote the agenda to get our country back on track, Sykes accused him of selling out his principles by backing Trump.

Oh, my God!

Allowing Hillary to pack the courts with Leftist judges is selling out conservative principles, potentially for generations!

Ryan did a terrific job of staying on message and not stooping to address Sykes' MSNBC lines. Instead, Ryan focused on the importance of electing Ron Johnson and keeping the courts out of radical Leftist hands.

Sykes, however, chose to bring up times Ryan had condemned Trump, like the Mexican-American judge controversy and the Billy Bush tape. Sykes even went to the twelve women accusing Trump of sexual assault, as if he had been criminally charged with substantiated evidence.

Ryan very skillfully exposed the consequences of the ultimate nightmare of voting to permit Democrat control of the House, Senate, and White House.

Sykes, of course, wasn't moved.

Bottom line: Ryan has it right.

Vote for Trump.

Vote for Ron Johnson.

Vote for the Republican in House races.

This is the ONLY way to vote against Hillary Clinton, Russ Feingold and Democrat control of the Senate, and the Leftist policies they would enact with control of the House.

Save the courts from radical Leftists.

Don't listen to Bill Maher and his followers.
