House Republicans are refuting a report that former President Donald Trump, on Thursday, disparaged Milwaukee, the host city for the Republican National Convention in July.

Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman posted on X about a comment Trump reportedly made during a closed-door meeting with House Republicans at the Capitol Hill Club on Thursday.

“Milwaukee, where we are having our convention, is a horrible city,” Sherman quoted Trump as saying. Media were not present for the meeting, so Sherman would have heard this secondhand. However, he did not attribute the comment to any source, even an anonymous one.

Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) slammed the reporting as false.

...Wisconsin representatives also ripped Sherman’s reporting.

Officials in Ripon, Wisconsin, have moved the building where the Republican Party is said to have been founded across town to boost visibility as conservatives descend on the state for the GOP national convention next year.

Workers moved the Little White Schoolhouse to a different location Monday, WLUK-TV reported.

The Ripon Chamber of Commerce owns the building. The chamber's executive director, Mandy Kimes, told the television station the new location will increase visibility and access as visitors arrive in the state for the GOP national convention in Milwaukee next summer.

...Timothy Bachleitner, chairman of the Fond du Lac County Republican Party, said he's disappointed with the move.

"This national treasure has now been moved right in the midst of an Ace Hardware, a vape/smoke shop instead of being able to stroll one block away and see the buildings where the men who founded the party have their names adorned on them," he said.

The Wisconsin Historical Society sent a letter to local, state and national officials March 20 warning that the National Historic Landmark and National Register of Historic Places would remove the schoolhouse from landmark status if it was moved.

This "increase visibility" move is nuts. It's been in its current location for more than 70 years, since 1951.

The "LOCK HER UP" chant at the Republican National Convention is rearing its head among the Democrats.

Hillary Clinton says the chants of "lock her up" at last week's Republican National Convention made her feel "very sad."

Clinton tells "60 Minutes" in an interview broadcast Sunday that she doesn't know what the GOP convention was about, "other than criticizing me." She says she seems to be "the only unifying theme that they had."

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee says Republicans offered "no positive agenda" and presented "a very dark, divisive campaign."

How does Hillary characterize the Democrats' adoption of the "LOCK HER UP" chant?

Things are off to a bit of a rough start at the Democratic National Convention, which, as of Monday morning, appeared to be a festival of booing and criticism directed at Hillary Clinton and soon-to-be former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

On Sunday, around 1,000 Bernie Sanders supporters marched through the streets of Philadelphia calling for Clinton's ouster. Many of them used the same anti-Clinton slogans yelled by attendees of last week's Republican National Convention, including "Lock her up" and "Hillary for prison."

Charlie Sykes interviewed Ann Coulter.

I suspect the audio will be highlighted on the 620 WTMJ website. If not, the interview took place during the first half of the third hour of the show.

He stayed true to his recent MSNBC form.

He started off the interview by calling Coulter a racist.

I loved her response. She defended herself and said, "F U."

Sykes responded by commenting on Coulter's thin skin.

Yeah, Sykes has gone totally MSNBC native.

He managed to exhibit more self-control during his interview with Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch yesterday, but he was still snarky at times.

Clearly, with Coulter, Sykes wanted more of that national Lefty acceptance by attacking Coulter with the Left's favorite assault - RACIST.

Referring to her support of Trump, Sykes said Coulter "went nuts." She countered that he "went nuts."

Crazy.

Later, in response to more of the Sykes drivel, Coulter said, "You are pulling out every cheap trick."

It was hilarious to hear Sykes be surprised that she would take offense to his Leftist attacks.

HE CALLED HER A RACIST, and then did take it back, to which she replied, "Thank you."

Then there was discussion of the title of her new book, In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!

Sykes commented that she replaced God with Trump, as if she has given up her Catholicism for Trump, worshipping a false idol.

That may have been what elicited the "cheap trick" comment.

How many instances of "In [fill in the blank] we trust" are there? Does "In cheese we trust" sound familiar? Yes, it's funny, not a literal refutation of God.

Good grief.

I enjoyed the interview. It was a microcosm of the divide in the Republican party - the drift to the Left (Sykes) and the swing to the Right (Coulter).

Absolutely delightful.

Ted Cruz: BOO

Compare Scott Walker's time addressing the Republican National Convention and the Ted Cruz disaster.



It could not have been easy for Walker to sing Trump's praises, but he understands the stakes. He gets that a Hillary Clinton presidency is unthinkable. Walker and others have the maturity to accept that reality and move forward accordingly.

Unfortunately, others are too ego-driven to do the right thing.

Helping put Hillary in the White House is NOT the right thing.

Ted Cruz chose to be less than unifying. He chose to stroke his ego.

That was not the right thing. It was selfish. Even Bernie Sanders managed to suck it up and endorse Hillary.



Cruz wouldn't endorse Trump. That was a mistake.

He didn't even choose to use language similar to what Ronald Reagan used regarding President Gerald Ford in 1976.

In his convention speech, Reagan said, "We must go forth from here united, determined that what a great general said a few years ago is true: There is no substitute for victory, Mr. President."

That was no endorsement, but it was more gracious than what Cruz offered.

He attacked Clinton and Obama, but didn't extol the virtues of a Trump presidency. In fact, he seemed to go out of his way to avoid the reality that Trump is the Republican nominee.

"And to those listening, please, don't stay home in November."

So far, so good. It appeared the endorsement was on its way.

"If you love our country, and love your children as much as I know that you do, stand and speak and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution."

"Vote your conscience"? "Up and down the ticket"? That's no endorsement.

Cruz seemed to respond to the negative reaction he was receiving by adding this to his speech: "We will unite the party. We will unite the country by standing together for shared values, by standing for liberty."

He failed to say we would unite to elect Trump and prevent Hillary from winning. He failed to promote victory, as Reagan did.

Scott Walker did a far better job. He swallowed hard and gave his support to the nominee. His remarks may have helped his political future. He didn't sell out, but he correctly recognized that Hillary in the White House is the worse option, something the Never Trumpkins won't do, stubbornly sticking with their hissy fit stance.

Cruz, unlike Walker, didn't help himself. He lacks the Reagan finesse. Cruz came off as bitter and defiant, whereas Reagan delivered a clear message that was strong and hopeful without the bitterness: "Vote Republican, that means for Ford, and I'll see you in four years."

Cruz's miscalculation was choosing the convention to maintain distance from Trump and avoid taking the opportunity to present a united front, even reluctantly.

It would have been better for Cruz to not address the convention if he couldn't bring himself to say "President Trump" at some point.

What an embarrassment that Newt Gingrich was given the task to "clarify" Cruz's remarks before beginning his own address! Immediate spin. Not a bad effort, but still embarrassing.

Cruz must know that President Hillary Clinton would be bad for the country. He must know that Trump would be better than Hillary.

If "freedom matters," as Cruz said, if he really wants to be "part of something beautiful," then Hillary can't be allowed to become president. It's as simple as that.

Life is about choices. Make the best choice given the options. That would be Trump.

I'm not happy about that, but that's the choice.

Sometimes, reality is unpleasant.

RNC House Band Plays Bowie's 'Station to Station'

Of course, even the music played at the Republican National Convention is coming under criticism.

Using music without the artist’s permission has been such a hallmark of the 2016 campaign season that it would have been surprising if the Republican National Convention hadn’t added a couple more items to the list.

True to form, however, the first night of the RNC featured a number of odd and/or unauthorized soundtrack selections. As many outlets have reported (and as you can watch above), Republican nominee Donald Trump took the stage to the strains of Queen‘s “We Are the Champions” — despite guitarist Brian May‘s earlier insistence that the surviving band members didn’t approve the use of their song.

Social media jumped all over Trump’s “Champions” moment, with many users pointing out that the Republican platform, Trump’s immigration stance and the political record of Trump’s VP pick, Indiana governor Mike Pence, aren’t exactly in step with Queen’s background or overall message. (Even Sting wasn’t pleased; TMZ has footage of him saying late singer Freddie Mercury would not approve.)

Still, that might not have been the oddest musical performance of the day.

Yahoo! Music also notes that the house band played David Bowie‘s “Station to Station,” which — as the report points out — includes the line “It’s not the side effects of the cocaine / I’m thinking that it must be love.”

Artists objecting to their songs being played at Republican events - so what else is new?

"Station to Station" is an odd choice, but it would be weird at the Democrats' convention, too. At least I hope it would be considered a bad idea. Would Grandma Hillary approve?
