Fallon: Rick Perry Jokes

JIMMY FALLON: Here's what everyone's talking about-- big trouble for Texax Gov. Rick Perry. He's been indicted on two felony charges after he threatened to veto funding for a district attorney's office unless she stepped down. He's now the most controversial governor in the country, which is why today he got a gift basket from Chris Christie. All the food was missing, but still it's the thought that counts.

That's right, Rick Perry was indicted for coercion and official oppression by a public servant, but those aren't the only charges he's facing. He's still fighting the charge of excessive 'corndoggery.'

You don't want to go to prison with a photo like that floating around.

Actually, because of the scandal, it looks like his chances in 2016 might be in trouble, or as Hillary put it, 'One down, four more to go.'
So Fallon began his monologue highlighting the indictment Rick Perry, as if that's the big story of the day. Of course, Fallon provides no details about the political nature of the indictment. He even managed to get in a shot at Chris Christie.

How many people in Fallon's have a clue that DEMOCRATS are questioning the authenticity of the indictment?

Rachel Maddow must be feeding Fallon's writers their material.

And, of course, Fallon did his nightly Rob Ford jokes.

It never fails.

But buried toward the end of his monologue was one measly Obama joke.

JIMMY FALLON: A survey just came out that found 75 percent of Americans don't use up all their vacation days, while the rest apparently loan them to President Obama.
That's it.

That was the only mention of Obama.

Fallon's focus is on Republicans and Rob Ford.

I really miss Jay Leno and his monologues.

Jimmy Fallon: Rick Perry Joke

JIMMY FALLON: President Obama was in Texas yesterday to address this immigration crisis. And get this-- Texas Governor Rick Perry said he wasn't gonna greet the president when he arrived at the airport. He made like a big deal about it. And then Governor Perry finally caved in and in fact did go meet the president when he landed. But I thought this was a little petty. Look at this photo:

It's disrespectful. The man is the president. It's rude! It is so rude!

So instead of ripping Obama for the crisis he created on what once was the border of the United States, Fallon mocks Rick Perry.

Obama went to Texas to "address this immigration crisis"?

Really? That's news to me. Does Obama address a crisis by fundraising after playing pool and drinking beer in Colorado? Leading from behind a cue ball?

Fallon's monologue didn't include ANY jokes making fun of Obama, not one.

Enough with the stale Rob Ford crap.

For half a century, The Tonight Show monologue included jokes about the president. That was just standard stuff.

But now, nothing. It's insane. Fallon's monologue would be nonexistent without Rob Ford and Chris Christie. The monologue really, really sucks.

By the way, the show got an Emmy nomination for writing.

Leno Retirement

Not again. More late night drama.

Will NBC push Jay Leno out of his role as host of The Tonight Show?

Déjà vu.

From FOX News:

NBC is ready to announce Jay Leno’s retirement, expecting to move Jimmy Fallon into the coveted late-night time slot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The announcement is expected in May, according to two high-level industry sources. The 2013-14 television season would be Leno’s last, according to the paper.

Fallon would then move from his “Late Night” spot into the 11:35 p.m. slot during the summer of 2014. A formal kickoff would happen in the fall.

Sources told the Hollywood Reporter that the network will bring in Fallon partly out of concern about the competition on ABC, which moved younger-skewing Jimmy Kimmel to the 11:35 time slot in January.

Leno, 62, has hosted “The Tonight Show” for 20 years.

NBC denied the report. And Leno’s rep said, “we do not speculate on rumor.”
I really don't like Leno anymore.

I preferred Leno to Letterman after Letterman turned so loony and cruel. I used to enjoy Letterman much more than Leno. I thought he was more innovative and witty and funny, but that changed long ago.

Now, Leno has become nearly as annoying as Letterman, always injecting his Leftist opinions into interviews.

Leno is constantly bashing Republicans, except Chris Christie. I think he's head of his fan club. Leno is still doing Mitt Romney jokes. The other night, he did a Rick Perry joke! Meanwhile, Obama pretty much gets a free pass.

Personally, I'll be glad to see Leno go, when that time comes. The sooner the better.

However, I don't know why NBC wants Leno to leave, given that he's delivering in the ratings.

It's like the Conan O'Brien debacle revisited.

Overall, I find Jimmy Fallon's show far more enjoyable than Leno's show. But, he's beginning to bug me a bit, too.

The Obama lovefest is not entertaining.

I just want to relax and laugh at the end of the day.

A thought on how to address NBC's 5th place problems: Stop offending half the country.

Leno: Rick Perry and Sequestration

Comedians have always joked about the president.

Regardless of political party affiliation, the person in power has been the butt of jokes. The president's activities and policies are fodder for punch lines.

As we know, Obama has been spared ridicule. It's a rare, rare thing when Obama is mocked by a late night talk show host or guest. It just doesn't happen.

Last night, I had the misfortune of hearing a bit of Jay Leno's monologue.

He actually chose to mock Rick Perry on the topic of sequestration. RICK PERRY!

The joke involved Perry not understanding sequestration and mistaking it for Ryan Seacrest.

It's absolutely pathetic that Leno reaches back to Perry rather than focusing on Obama. Leno mentioned Obama in a joke but it ripped FOX News rather than the guy in the White House.

Obama offers so much material that Leno and those of his ilk could be using, but they protect him. He's untouchable. It's not normal.

The Leftist comedians didn't spare Bill Clinton. Why does Obama get a pass? It's never happened before.

I've heard many say that Obama isn't funny. He's so cool. He's so perfect. Jokes aren't there.

Now, that is funny.

You'd think the Leftist comedians would end their self-imposed moratorium on jokes directed at the sitting president. Getting a laugh is the goal.

Rick Perry. Unbelievable.

SNL: Romney, GOP Primary Candidates, Green Day (Video)

Saturday Night Live opened with Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and the other Republican primary candidates meeting in a bar, reminiscing, and occasionally breaking into song, Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)."

Ron Paul wasn't included, probably because Paul Brittain is no longer an SNL cast member.

Hermain Cain Endorses Newt Gingrich

Will Herman Cain's endorsement help Newt Gingrich?

It will probably help as much as Rick Perry's endorsement.

Video.

From the New York Times:

Despite signs that he could lose the important Florida primary on Tuesday, Newt Gingrich, who picked up the endorsement of a former opponent, Herman Cain, pledged Saturday to stay in the nominating race until the very end, telling reporters he would press on until the Republican convention in Tampa in August.

“I will go all the way to the convention,” Mr. Gingrich said after a rally at a golf course here. “I expect to win the nomination.”

Mr. Gingrich alluded to two national polls that he said showed him ahead, but it is the state polls that count, and in Florida they show him lagging 8 or 10 percentage points behind Mitt Romney.

Later, at a West Palm Beach County Republican dinner, Mr. Gingrich accepted the endorsement of Mr. Cain, the former business executive who ended his own presidential campaign in early December. Mr. Cain, sharing the stage with Mr. Gingrich, said he understood the “sausage grinder” of a presidential campaign and was inspired by Mr. Gingrich, who has been pilloried by many in his party who are worried that if he became the nominee, he would lose to President Obama in November.

Mr. Cain suspended his campaign after reports emerged of an extramarital affair, and it is not clear how much his endorsement would help Mr. Gingrich, who has also acknowledged extramarital affairs. But Mr. Cain’s plan for a 9 percent flat tax resonated with Tea Party supporters and other conservatives.

Gingrich vows to go all the way to the convention.

It makes sense that he'd say that now. Certainly, the goal is not to drop out of the race. Who knows what will happen down the road?

I don't think a spirited debate hurts Republicans.

What I don't like is the way Gingrich and Mitt Romney are ripping each other apart. They should focus on Obama.

Hillary Clinton and Obama engaged in a lengthy primary battle. It didn't hurt the Democrats in 2008.

I think Republicans should get a grip. The current climate of panic is premature.

Rick Perry Drops Out

Rick Perry is "suspending" his campaign to be the Republican nominee for president.

It was only a matter of time. Things just didn't work out.

Gov. Rick Perry of Texas dropped out of the Republican presidential race here on Thursday and announced his endorsement for the candidacy of Newt Gingrich, a man he called a “conservative visionary.”

“I’ve never believed that the cause of conservatism is embodied by one individual,” Mr. Perry said at a news conference here. “Our party and our conservative philosophy transcends any one individual.”

Mr. Perry, who opened his bid for the Republican presidential nomination five months ago here in South Carolina, conceded that “there is no viable path forward for me.” He urged Republicans to support Mr. Gingrich, who he conceded was not a perfect candidate, but was the best conservative alternative in the race.

“Newt is not perfect, but who among us is,” Mr. Perry said. “The fact is, there is forgiveness for those who seek God. And I believe in the power of redemption, for it is a central tenet of my Christian faith.”

Mr. Perry reached the decision on Wednesday night, his aides said, and informed Mr. Gingrich of his plans to leave the race. He was planning to fly home to Texas shortly after his announcement.

...In a brief announcement here, as Mr. Perry was surrounded by his wife and family, he did not acknowledge Mitt Romney by name. But his praise of Mr. Gingrich, along with his repeated calls for Republicans to elect a true conservative, seemed to be a direct shot at Mr. Romney.

Perry collapsed in the national spotlight. He wasn't ready.

Of course, he didn't have the fawning media to prop him up the way the inexperienced Obama did in 2008.

If Perry had the media defending him and virtually creating him, he could have been the nominee. He could still be in the race. Instead, he was systematically dismantled.

The media didn't help him and Perry wasn't able to help himself. It just wasn't going to work.

The Debate, Sioux City

Did anything important happen during last night's Republican presidential primary debate?

I had it on, but I was writing out Christmas cards.

Occasionally, something on TV would draw my attention away from my task.

It might be Ron Paul's squeaky yapping or Newt Gingrich talking over the moderators that would distract me.

I'd look up now and then, and see Mitt Romney speaking, looking like he always does, very Romney-ish. What was he saying? I don't know.

Rick Perry seemed lost. The "Tim Tebow" line was stupid. In that brief moment, which was all I saw of him, he was trying too hard.

If Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum said much, I missed it. All I heard from Jon Huntsman were his closing remarks.

This debate received a lot of hype. It is the last one before Iowa, so I guess I should have watched it closely.

But I'm powerless. I'm not in Iowa or New Hampshire. Why bother?

All the pundits have been fighting it out. Who's the best candidate? Who can beat Obama? Who guarantees failure in November?

What does the Wall Street Journal say? National Review?

I feel like I'm on the sidelines and my vote won't matter. Others will decide.

I don't think that's the way it's supposed to work.

Rick Perry and Jay Leno (Video)

Governor Rick Perry was Jay Leno's guest on Thursday's Tonight Show.

Leno was relatively respectful, maybe because he doesn't see Perry as a serious threat to Obama. Leno's somewhat noncombative manner could also be an outgrowth of the recent assault endured by Michele Bachmann on NBC, when she was a guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

It's possible that NBC warned Leno not to appear excessively hostile to Perry after what happened to Bachmann.

That's probably giving NBC too much credit.

By the way, what song did Ricky Minor and the Tonight Show Band play when Perry was introduced?

Here's video:

Governor Rick Perry helps Jay remember.

Part 1: Governor Rick Perry on gaffes, Herman Cain and part-time Congress.

Part 2: Governor Rick Perry on proposing a 20% flat tax and calls social security a ponzi scheme.

Part 3: Governor Rick Perry on troop withdrawal and his favorite candidates.

SNL: Rick Perry Shot by Mitt Romney

It's no surprise that Saturday Night Live opened with Rick Perry's memory lapse during Wednesday's Republican presidential debate.

The sketch lasted nearly 6 minutes, much longer than Perry's actual awkward stumble during the debate.

Bill Hader, once again, played Rick Perry.

Here's the video:

It's very predictable, the same sort of mocking of Perry that's been going on since he lost it on Wednesday.

What I found kind of funny was when Jason Sudeikis, playing Mitt Romney, went over to Perry's podium and tried to comfort Perry during his meltdown.

It was a take-off on John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, when George talks to Lenny about the farm and the rabbits just before the dramatic, heartwrenching moment when George shoots him.

Transcript

RICK PERRY (BILL HADER): I'm not gonna be president, am I?

MITT ROMNEY (JASON SUDEIKIS): No. No, you're not.

PERRY: Can I be your vice president?

ROMNEY: Sure, sure, sure. (Shakes his head and mouths 'no' behind Perry)

PERRY: Where are we goin' after this, Mitt?

ROMNEY: We're going to go to a nice field, where you never have to say another word. There's going to be a cow and a chicken.

PERRY: I like that. Are there rabbits?

ROMNEY: Yeah, yeah rabbits everywhere.

PERRY: Tell me about the rabbits, Mitt.

ROMNEY: You can tend the rabbits.

At this point, Romney pulls out a handgun, to shoot Perry.

That made me cringe.

The camera turned to the debate moderators, Fred Armisen and Nasim Pedrad, when Romney pulls the trigger. We hear a cartoonish clang sound and the camera returns to Romney and Perry. Romney exclaims, "It bounced right off."

Then, Perry says, "Got it! Department of Engery!"

I didn't like the gun scene at all.

I highly doubt SNL would depict a Democrat intending to shoot another Democrat.

I wonder if Gabrielle Giffords watched the sketch. I wonder if she laughed.

Rick Perry: Letterman Top Ten (Video)

I think it's good when a candidate shows he can laugh at himself, especially after an embarrassing incident.

We can all relate to being less than perfect.

That said, I don't know if it was a good idea for Perry to go on Letterman and do the Top Ten list, "Rick Perry Excuses."

If Perry had dropped out of the race, I would see no downside to going on the show and joking about his poor debate performance.

At this point, however, it seems unpresidential and kind of desperate.

Will an appearance on Letterman turn around his campaign?

I don't see how it would.

It might help if Perry's goal is to be a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.

Rick Perry Debate Disaster

Rick Perry is cursed when it comes to these Republican primary debates.

His latest disaster: A stunningly embarrassing memory lapse.

Video, from Breitbart:

How could he forget that? He must be exhausted.

At least Perry didn't say he visited 57 STATES!

Sometimes, I can't believe the country elected Obama. I suppose I share that with Hillary.

Ann Coulter:

If Rick Perry is ever accused of inappropriate behavior in his past and he says he doesn't remember, at least everyone will believe him.

Rick Perry Ad

This is a fantastic campaign ad.

It's sad that our country is in such dire straits. It's awful that Obama has been such a stunning failure as president.

I believe that better days are ahead.

Obama NOT 2012.
