I don't believe the "Dump Trump" graphic was intentional. I doubt that graphic was planned to air, but it did air.

Scott Walker, Reagan Bible - CORRECT

Leftists spent days going berserk over the alleged Scott Walker LIE about the Reagan family Bible.

Turns out, their crazed frothing was just more idiocy.

Walker didn't lie about the Bible.

An official at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library on Monday sought to clarify her account of how Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker came to handle a family Bible the late president used when taking the oath of office.

Library registrar Jennifer Torres said a "simple misunderstanding" left the wrong impression that Walker personally sought to hold the book. A spokeswoman for the Reagan Foundation says Walker's retelling of the moment is correct.

Walker told the story of having his picture taken with the Bible at a 2013 Reagan Day dinner in Milwaukee. He described in his speech how he was surprised to see the Bible had been taken out of its exhibit case, so that he could pose with it for a photo.

In a series of emails with the liberal magazine The Progressive, Torres said that Walker had asked to see the Bible. On Monday, Torres confirmed that Walker's advance team had indeed asked about Walker viewing the Bible, but that his surprise at being offered the chance to hold it was genuine.

"It was the Reagan Foundation's request to actually pull the Bible from the case and allow Gov. Walker to hold the Bible," Torres said. "It was not Gov. Walker nor his team's idea to request that we remove it from the case or take a picture of the governor with it."

In his 2013 speech, Walker also said he was told that former first lady Nancy Reagan wanted him to hold the book and pose for a photo. Melissa Giller, a spokeswoman for the Reagan Foundation, said Walker likely got that idea because Nancy Reagan's chief of staff had to give permission for the Bible to be removed.

"She knew Mrs. Reagan would also like the idea and we shared that with him," Giller said in an email. "We aren't sure how the other story got out (that it was his idea), and we feel badly about it because nothing about it was his idea."

The Leftists really need to get a grip.

Bible-gate, the Walker LIE, was reported on TMJ4's news and other Leftist outlets.

Julia Fello, Mark Belling, Janet Hundley, and 'Bimbo'

How do the Leftists in the Milwaukee media respond when legitimate criticism is directed at one of them?

They attack the critic, attempting to divert attention from the significant error made by the journalist, twisting the matter entirely.

It's so ridiculous. It's almost funny.

First, let's examine what Dan Bice, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, has to say about TMJ4 reporter Julia Fello's COMPLETELY INACCURATE claim regarding right-to-work legislation, "If passed, the bill would make Wisconsin the 25th state to ban employees from joining a union or pay union dues."

Bice writes:

Conservative talk show host Mark Belling was upset with a WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) story that bungled its description of "right to work" legislation.

"If passed, the bill would make Wisconsin the 25th state to ban employees from joining a union or pay union dues," reporter Julia Fello wrote on the station's website.

Actually, the bill would do no such thing. Right-to-work laws bar private businesses and unions from reaching labor deals that require workers to pay union fees.

Belling had a ready explanation for Fello's flub.

"She completely mis-described the bill," Belling bellowed during his Thursday show (starting at 14 minutes). "This is a woman who's reporting on the story."

“Do you wonder why people are so mixed up when the bimbos the TV stations send out don’t even know what the bill does?" Belling continued. "It doesn't ban somebody from joining a union. Is that what she thought?"

OK, "bimbo" is a little dated. Still, should Belling be using that term to deride female TV journalists? What's his term du jour for their incompetent male counterparts?

Oh, good grief.

So instead of focusing on the reporter's major error, her inexcusably sloppy reporting and the publishing of flat-out falsehoods on the official website of a major news outlet in southeastern Wisconsin, something that was clearly misleading the public, we're supposed to focus on Mark Belling's critique.

REALLY?

Fello wrote, "If passed, the bill would make Wisconsin the 25th state to ban employees from joining a union or pay union dues."

That is NOT TRUE. This is black and white, totally wrong, not a mtter of interpretation.

That's the story.

Of course, Bice isn't concerned about this stunning falsehood, what he calls a "flub."

FLUB?

What Fello wrote completely mischaracterized the legislation. That's reality. It's bad for her and bad for TMJ4.

Bice goes further than whining about Belling's use of the term "bimbo." But let's talk a little bit about "bimbo" before going there. Some perspective is in order.

At some point, I may have been called a bimbo. I don't recall. But I know I've been called worse. Cyberbully Mike Dawson of Michigan harassed me for YEARS, sending me thousands of comments and emails, calling me things dramatically more disturbing than "bimbo."

For instance, in emails to me, relentless cyberbully Mike Dawson wrote:

"Face it - you're a racist prick/bitch/pig through and through."

"You are evil."

"[Y]es - you really are a pathetic bitch/witch, prick/pig."

Another example, in comments he submitted to this blog, Mike Dawson wrote:

"You're a spineless evil witch/pig/prick."

"Being the racist punk that you are (which is really a combination of attributes associated with pricks and bitches) there is no way you could avoid the smoldering fragrance. You're evil. One does not have the volume and consistency of negative thought as you do and NOT have a problem with 'smell'. Get professional help."

Oh, wait...

Mike Dawson wrote this in an email to me, January 5, 2013:

"You sound like one of the bimbos from Fox News."

I guess I sort of have been called a bimbo.

I have thousands of these creepy messages from Mike Dawson, literally thousands. Granted, this cyberbully, who fully identified himself using a business email address tied to his "wild bird and nature store" in Grand Blanc, didn't make his comments on a popular radio program.

Of course, what Belling says is heard by a huge audience. Accordingly, his words do have greater weight. Still, Belling's "bimbo" is not that offensive. In terms of deriding a female, which seems to be Bice's point, his comment is nothing like Dawson's brutal and twisted words, nothing like his deranged years of bullying and threats and abuse.

In sum, I honestly don't feel "bimbo" is worthy of the coverage Bice provides. I agree it was not a nice comment, but it's something that Fello and her allies should be able to endure without this overwrought reaction.

Sarah Palin didn't crumble in the face of withering attacks, did she?  The Leftists never backed off their "bimbo" narrative.

Back to Bice's article--

He includes other remarks by Belling, digging up past on-air transgressions.

In 2013, Belling apologized for using the term "bitch" when referring to Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic and was suspended nearly a decade earlier for using the ethnic slur "wetback" to refer to illegal Mexican immigrants voting in Wisconsin.

So, it seems Bice is attempting to establish a pattern meant to discredit Belling. It appears he's painting Belling as being disrespectful to women.

Yeah, if that's what Bice is doing, that falls flat.

"Bimbo," while not nice, is not some terrible slur. The attempt to make it so is silly.

Should Belling have dared to utter "bimbo" in relation to Fello and her claim, "If passed, the bill would make Wisconsin the 25th state to ban employees from joining a union or pay union dues"?

It would have been better if he didn't, but let's not turn "bimbo" into something it's not.

Bice concludes his article with this:

On Tuesday, Belling explained that he tried to get an explanation from Fello about her reporting snafu.

"The reporter did not respond to repeated inquiries about why such a story was posted," Belling said. "It is indeed no wonder the public is confused about right to work when TV station airheads don’t understand the bill and mis-report it. I am open to input on what term should be applied to such clueless 'journalists.'"

There you have it. Belling started with "bimbos" and is now opting for "airheads."

Remember, the real story here should be Fello's report and the fact that the TMJ4 website contained totally misleading, false information.

Now, let's look at an internal email from Janet Hundley, news director at TMJ4, discussing the Fello matter.

A radio personality spewed misinformation and called Julia Fello vile derogatory names on-air and this morning a Journal columnist decided to write about it. They are both flat out wrong. Julia Fello did nothing wrong. We do not respond to radio personalities or columnists, but I did want the staff at TODAY'S TMJ4 to understand what really happened.

Julia was in Madison covering the Right-to-Work protests. She wrote a draft script on her iPad in the field for her 3pm live shot and emailed it to the station. That email was posted to our website before it was vetted by a producer or a manager. That should never have happened. Julia has a thorough understanding of the Right-to-Work bill. In her haste to write the script Julia inadvertently left out three word, "ban 'EMPLOYERS FROM REQUIRING' workers to join a union."

We never made an on-air mistake. As soon as we realized there was a mistake online we corrected the story. Julia's on-air reporting was CORRECT every single time she appeared on-air. Every subsequent story was correct on-air and online.

It is disappointing that some people choose to make a career out of making fun of others. I always find it interesting that they can spew anything as fact, right or wrong, while hiding behind a mic or computer screen and people are so willing to believe them. We all work hard every day to earn our viewers trust and we will continue to do that every waking moment.

I'm afraid Hundley doesn't know what a "vile derogatory name" is if she thinks "bimbo" qualifies.

Hundley claims Fello did nothing wrong.

Clearly, that's wrong. Hundley's statement is laughable.

Fello wrote, "If passed, the bill would make Wisconsin the 25th state to ban employees from joining a union or pay union dues."

It is absolutely undeniable that is wrong.

Fello is a big girl. And she's smart, certainly not a bimbo. She's responsible for her alleged omission of the words that would have made the statement that appeared on the TMJ4 website accurate. According to Hundley, Fello wrote in haste. Writing in haste is Fello's fault.

Because her report sent via email was posted online before its proper vetting by a producer or manager, Fello's report contained major inaccuracies. Hundley states that Fello's bizarre missing three words are, therefore, not her fault.

Well, if you say so, Ms. Hundley. But, the fact remains that TMJ4 had "misinformation" on its website.

I find it odd that Hundley makes such a big a deal about the on-air reporting while dismissing TMJ4's online content.  Is the website to be considered unreliable?

Note to Ms. Hundley: The information on your website counts, too.  It counts a lot.

Good for Fello that her reports were "CORRECT every single time she appeared on-air."

Newspapers and TV news outlets have a long history of issuing retractions and corrections. People make mistakes. It happens. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging that.

Why not just admit something very, very wrong was on the TMJ4 website, something that was extremely misleading to the uninformed about the right-to-work bill?

Why not take responsibility for that mistake?

Why not apologize to consumers and give them reason to consider TMJ4 a trustworthy source for news?

That would be the honorable thing to do.  It would be the smart thing to do in terms of maintaining credibility.

Instead, what we get from Bice and Hundley is an effort to shift the emphasis of the story to Mark Belling's "bimbo" remarks. That reveals a disturbing lack of integrity and misplaced accountability.

The real story is TMJ4 had the following falsehood posted as news on its website:

"If passed, the bill would make Wisconsin the 25th state to ban employees from joining a union or pay union dues."

Julia Fello, TMJ4, Right-To-Work

Julia Fello, TMJ4 reporter, doesn't understand the most basic fact about right-to-work legislation. She doesn't know what it is.

I'm sure she has been enlightened by now, but it's disturbing to know that a reporter covering the story was misleading the public.

I don't know the woman. I give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she wasn't intentionally trying to mislead. Unfortunately, that means she was utterly ignorant on right-to-work.

Years ago, as a county employee, I was forced to be a member of AFSCME. I didn't have a choice.

(I STILL will get mailings from the union, as if I'm an active member. It's amazing.)

Julia Fello did a terrible job as a journalist. She's certainly not Brian Williams bad, but she made a big, BIG mistake.

Her credibility and that of TMJ4 News have been damaged. Not good.

Former Trek president Tom Albers told The Associated Press that Burke's role as head of Trek's overseas operations "just didn't work out. We were losing money."

Albers spoke to the AP after the allegation that Burke was fired was first reported by Wisconsin Reporter, a conservative website.

The claim that Burke was fired goes to the heart of her credentials as a successful Trek executive and comes just six days before the election.

Both Mary Burke and her brother John Burke, the current head of Trek, denied that she was fired from the job in 1993. They said Trek decided to reorganize its overseas operations, eliminating her position, at a time when she was ready to leave the company.

Albers, who worked for Trek from 1982 to 1997, said Mary Burke was fired by John Burke. Albers said he was told of the 1993 firing at the time by CEO Dick Burke, father to Mary and John Burke, who died in 2008.

Mary Burke said the claim so close to the election was politically motivated.

Is Mary Burke lying about being fired from Trek also politically motivated?

I think so.

Lilly Badtke Pizza Party

This EXCLUSIVE story by TMJ4 is positively embarrassing.

Toppers Pizza invited Lilleona "Lilly" Rose Badtke to come have a pizza party. The restaurant shut-down Monday evening, when they got word the little girl was missing. Employees immediately joined search crews.

"We scoured this city," says Tim Krahn, who works at Toppers Pizza. "It hit home for all of us. We all have kids. We felt compelled to help find her."

"Being a father, you just don't expect to get a call saying your child is missing," says Lilly's dad, David, who got a call from his ex-wife, saying Lilly never came home from school. "It's the worst feeling. But the fact that the community rallied around us, was so amazing. It was unexpected, and very appreciated."

It turns out, Lilly had slept over a friend's house, without telling anyone. She showed up at school the next morning, and had no idea everyone had been looking for her.

"My mom didn't know," Lilly says. "I was pretty surprised when everyone started hugging me, and my stepmom was crying."

When asked if she's thankful so many strangers stepped-up to help her, Lilly's answer was simple. "Yes, very much."

So someone involved called TMJ4 to bring their cameras to this little party celebrating the fact that a 7-year-old's parents couldn't keep track of their child.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Scott Walker - Abusing Women (Video)

DEMOCRAT Debbie Wasserman Schultz was in Milwaukee yesterday, disgracing herself and her political party.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, via FOX News:

Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz ripped into Republican Gov. Scott Walker's record Wednesday during a round-table discussion on women's issues at the Milwaukee Athletic Club.

The Florida congresswoman said: "Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand. I know that is stark. I know that is direct. I know that is reality."

Wasserman Schultz added: "What Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back. It is not going to happen on our watch."

Appropriately, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch expressed her disgust at Wasserman Schultz.

Republican Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch said she was "shocked" that Wasserman Schultz used domestic violence language to discuss political disagreements.

"I think the remarks were absolutely hideous and the motive behind them was despicable," Kleefisch said.

Kleefisch called on Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke to "denounce these outrageous statements" made by the DNC leader.

Stephanie Wilson, Burke's press secretary, suggested in a statement that Wasserman Schultz's comments went too far.

"That's not the type of language that Mary Burke would use, or has used, to point out the clear differences in this contest," Wilson said.

Wilson added, "There is plenty that she and Governor Walker disagree on — but those disagreements can and should be pointed out respectfully."

This is absolutely disgusting, and totally expected from the likes of Wasserman Schultz.

This is how the Democrats roll now.

Mary Burke should contact local TV stations and voice her personal dismay regarding the remarks of Wasserman Schultz. She should state unequivocally that she denounces Wasserman Schultz.

Using the imagery of domestic violence to describe Gov. Scott Walker is completely out of line. Wasserman Schultz managed to hurt the victims of abuse while making a fool of herself.

This sort of rhetoric is inexcusable.

Burke should grow a spine and speak out against this sort of despicable behavior.

Wauwatosa West - Short Shorts

The big story on TMJ4's 10:00 PM newscast: Wauwatosa West students organize sit-in over dress code.

I kid you not. THIS was the big story.

There's dress-code drama at Wauwatosa West High School. Some students want to wear short-shorts to class, and think it's unfair for teachers to tell girls to cover up. The school says rules are in place for a reason.

"They are just legs," says sophomore Elizabeth Kniffin. "Is that really too distracting? I understand that girls shouldn't be coming to school with their butts or chests hanging out, but there has to be a happy medium."

"I think it's pretty unnecessary for them to try and make girls limit themselves because of what they think guys look at us as," adds Keyba Bratchett.

As the rules stand now, girls are not allowed to wear shorts above a certain length, or sleeveless tops. They say some teachers will make them stand-up in front of their class to determine if their shorts meet the requirements.

"It makes a scene, and a spectacle of the girl," says senior Jestine Langlas. "It makes it way bigger of a deal than it needs to be."

So they're fighting back. They organized a "sit-in" protest in the main hallway of Wauwatosa West High School Thursday before school, despite the risk of suspension. Participants wore short shorts, and passed around a petition to change the dress code. They plan to take their concerns to the school board.

"We're in an environment where they teach us freedom of speech, freedom of petition, and to stand up for what we believe in, yet they're telling us they're going to suspend us for doing just that," Kniffin says.

Oh, my God.

Where to begin?

Why would TMJ4 showcase this idiocy, as if it matters to the general population in TMJ4's southeastern Wisconsin viewing area?

So many other stories deserve attention, not something as goofy as a "sit-in" by high school girls demanding that they be allowed to wear skimpy, inappropriate clothes.

This comment from a female student is priceless: "We're in an environment where they teach us freedom of speech, freedom of petition, and to stand up for what we believe in, yet they're telling us they're going to suspend us for doing just that."

What are Democrats and Leftists, especially members of the Left-wing media, to do now that they can no longer yap about the convention of the Republican Party of Wisconsin and that secession resolution?

The Leftists, and fools like Brett Hulsey, really milked that thing. It was ridiculous. Now, it's over. They have to let it go.

I understand how much that hurts. The Leftists don't want to talk about things that matter, like Mary Burke's stance on Act 10. (She doesn't want to repeal it.)

Wisconsin Republicans at their annual convention Saturday defeated a tea party-backed resolution demanding that legislators pass bills affirming the state's right to secede and nullifying federal laws.

The GOP's conservative wing in southeastern Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District proposed the measure in March. It called on state lawmakers to uphold the state's right to secede under "extreme circumstances" based on the U.S. Constitution's 10th Amendment, which says powers the Constitution doesn't give the federal government belong to the states.

The measure also called for legislation that would nullify President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, the Common Core academic standards, indefinite detention, any presidential order that circumvents Congress and drone use in Wisconsin.

...Republican officials conscious of a public backlash tried to downplay the resolution. Gov. Scott Walker has said he doesn't support the resolution. And on Friday, 50 Assembly Republicans sent a letter to convention delegates urging them to reject the resolution, calling it a distraction.

"Unfortunately, a small minority of members wish to prove a meaningless point by voting on a resolution regarding secession," the letter said. "We need to win elections and we will not win elections on a platform that includes secession."

Longshot Democratic gubernatorial candidate Brett Hulsey, a state representative from Madison, mocked the delegates over the resolution on Friday evening, standing outside their hotel dressed as a Confederate soldier.

Ultimately, the delegates approved a motion on a voice vote to strip the secession language from the resolution. They then rejected a motion to reinsert it and struck down the entire proposal on voice votes.

...The delegates later considered a separate resolution demanding that legislators nullify Obama's health care changes in Wisconsin, sparking a fierce debate. Supporters argued it's time for states to stand up to the federal government and reject the changes. Opponents argued the resolution would lead to more damaging headlines on the heels of the secession measure and reduce the party to a laughing stock.

It appeared the delegates defeated the resolution on a voice vote, but supporters demanded a head count. Convention officials agreed, but the result was unchanged. The resolution failed 303-145.

Wisconsin Republicans rejected the secession resolution.

Done.

Of course, the Democrats and their media obsessed over the issue. Talking secession is much better for them than talking about Scott Walker's achievements. They certainly can't talk about the "great" Mary Burke. It's not surprising that the Leftists jumped on this lame resolution, but the fervor of their obsession with it certainly indicates just how desperate they are to distract from Governor Walker's success and the hollowness of the Burke campaign.

The convention is over. The resolution was easily defeated.

Time to stop talking about this.

Jimmy Fallon: Hank the Dog

Brewer mascot Hank the Dog was highlighted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night.

CBS, Time Warner Cable Settle

I'm glad CBS and Time Warner Cable have settled their differences.

Although I'm not in New York, LA, Dallas, Boston, or Chicago, the dispute did impact me. I couldn't watch any CBS programming online. CBS took the unprecedented step of blocking all its programming online to TWC customers everywhere.

That really ticked me off, especially since I've already been denied access to NBC and TMJ4 programming via cable since July 25th.

From USA Today:

CBS Corp. confirmed Monday that it has reached a new broadcasting rights agreement with Time Warner Cable, ending a month-long blackout of the network's shows at several key markets in the country.

CBS' programming resumed at 6:00 p.m., ET Monday in the affected markets. The companies didn't disclose specific terms of their new retransmission contract, which spells out the amount of money that TWC pays CBS for the rights to carry the CBS-owned TV stations.

TMJ4's problems with TWC began before the CBS blackout and there appears to be no end in sight. I'm sick of taking extra steps to watch NBC over-the-air. I'm certainly less likely to channel surf to TMJ4.

Since TWC stopped carrying TMJ4, I've stopped watching its news. My viewing habits have changed because of the standoff. I wonder if other TWC customers have made similar adjustments.

Maybe now that the CBS/TWC issues are settled some attention can be paid to the southeastern Wisconsin blackout and the matter can be resolved.

If that happens, will I go back to my old viewing patterns?

Maybe. But the longer this goes on, the less likely that will be.

Graeme Zielinski's 3rd Drunk Driving Arrest: Mug Shot?

Show me the mug shot.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel STILL refuses to report online that former spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin Graeme Zielinski was arrested for his THIRD drunk driving offense.

(I can't speak to what appears in the print version of the newspaper since we cancelled our subscription over 6 years ago. Time flies.)

While Zielinski's record is ignored, this THIRD arrest does warrant attention from the Journal Sentinel:

The Journal Sentinel even displays Patrick Coffey's mug shot, but Graeme Zielinski gets a pass altogether.

That's not right.

Surprisingly, TMJ4 does have the Zielinski story on its website. It's very brief. Most of the page is a large photo of Zielinski, NOT his mug shot. He doesn't look drunk.

JEFFERSON - There's new trouble for former state Democratic Party spokesman Graeme Zielinski.

Court records show he was arrested for drunk driving in Jefferson County.

Records indicate it is his third drunk driving offense.

He resigned from the Democratic Party earlier in 2013.

He came under fire after comparing Governor Scott Walker to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

That blurb is more than what FOX6 has - NOTHING.

WISN-TV 12, like FOX 6, has NOTHING on its website.

I also couldn't find any mention of Zielinski's arrests on the CBS 58 site.

Given Zielinski's high-profile role in Wisconsin politics, it's inexcusable to disregard his THREE arrests.

It's time for the Journal Sentinel to run this story, complete with a big, color mug shot of DEMOCRAT Zielinski.

Time Warner Cable TMJ4 Rebate

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Time Warner Cable is rejecting rebates for customers unhappy with the removal of TMJ4 from its programming.

Time Warner Cable offered a boilerplate response to a request by state Senate President Mike Ellis (R-Neenah) that it give rebates to customers affected by the blackout of Journal Broadcast Group stations in the state.

"It is clear your customers are no longer receiving the service they are paying for," Ellis wrote.

When asked for a response, Time Warner released a statement that said:

Stations "are sold as a package of channels. We change our programming packages from time to time, including by adding new networks to the lineup. It is not our practice to issue credits for individual networks that are offered in a package.

"We regret that Journal's unreasonable demands have forced us to remove" them the lineup, and "are doing everything we can to hold the line on outrageous demands, especially for programming that is available free over the air."

Don't let this statement discourage you from calling TWC and asking for a refund if you're a Time Warner Cable subscriber.

I did last week and got $10 off my bill.

It was quick and easy. I didn't have to argue or be transferred to a supervisor. I simply expressed my dissatisfaction with the service, asked for a refund, and the guy gave me a credit.

Bed Bugs - Milwaukee

According to Mike Jacobs, TMJ4, bed bugs "are spreading like wildfire in the Milwaukee area."

That's alarming, but is it true?

Terminix has released a list of cities that have had the biggest jump in bed bug infestations.

Number one is Sacramento, and unfortunately, Milwaukee is number two! Las Vegas comes in third.

“Bedbugs continue to have a significant presence across the country, in cities large and small, and pose concern for public health,” said Stan Cope, PhD and entomologist with Terminix.

“There is now evidence that suggests that severe bedbug infestations may be associated with anemia. Also, bedbug bites can result in secondary infections due to excessive scratching. Bedbug infestations are also known to have a psychological impact and can cause emotional stress and irritability.”

Yikes!

The Milwaukee area is infested!!! Only Sacramento has more bugs. Milwaukee is even worse than Vegas!

This sensationalized reporting is misleading. What did the Terminix "new report" really show?

From USA Today:

Terminix has just issued its annual list of top bed-bug infested cities. In a twist this year, the exterminator has identified the 15 top cities with the largest increase in infestations.

We'll get to that, but first, a look at where the most bed bug-specific calls from anguished (we presume) customers are coming from. Terminix has 300-plus branches nationwide.

Cities with the top number of calls related to bed bugs through May of this year:

Philadelphia

Detroit

New York

Columbus

Los Angeles

Dallas

Chicago

Houston

Baltimore

The same cities have tended to pop up in various spots on the list since it debuted in 2010. Tallies for previous years are on the company's website.

These numbers are meaningless.

"Greatest increases in bed bug complaint calls to Terminix" does not mean that bed bugs have increased in the Milwaukee area by 53 percent.

Do all the calls result in the identification of bed bug infestations as opposed to other pests?

Moreover, the 53 percent measure for Milwaukee doesn't reveal anything about the number of calls previously. The Milwaukee area may have less of a bed bug problem than other cities on the "increase" list.

Furthermore, these are Terminix figures, not a nationwide report including all exterminators regarding bed bugs. The numbers could easily be skewed based on where Terminix branches are located.

This "new report" is very poor on control.

It seems that this year Terminix simply decided to identify the "15 cities with the greatest increases in bed bug complaint calls to Terminix" to drum up business, seeking to create greater concern about the pests in new markets. And the local media dutifully spread the word/panic.

The top cities with the worst infestations have remained relatively constant.

"The same cities have tended to pop up in various spots on the list since it debuted in 2010."

I understand why Terminix decided to mix things up and add some new cities to its "report."

It's good to expand business.

The local media report the story because it's good for ratings.

WI Assembly Approves Ultrasound Bill - TMJ4 Objects

On TMJ4's 10:00 PM newscast, Courtny Gerrish reported on Sonya's Law. The State Assembly passed the legislation that requires women planning to have an abortion to receive an ultrasound of the unborn baby.

Susan Armacost, Legislative Director for Wisconsin Right to Life, explains the measure:

“In spite of the blatant misinformation being promoted by the opponents of Sonya’s Law, this legislation does not force women to have a specific type of ultrasound, said Armacost. “It is up to the women to choose the type of ultrasound she prefers, after all options are explained to her. The actual language of the law states: ‘perform an obstetric ultrasound on the pregnant woman, using whichever tranducer the woman chooses after the options have been explained to her.’”

It's no surprise that pro-abortion proponents are flipping out.

The measure would require... the technician to point out the fetus' features and organs.

Being exposed to reality! Pointing out the unborn baby's features and organs! How horrific!

Of course, there's an effort by the pro-abortion crowd to distort the bill.

I guess TMJ4 must be considered on the pro-abortion team.

Gerrish introduced the very brief report on the passage of the legislation by saying it's "going to be more difficult" for Wisconsin women to get an abortion.

"More difficult"? No, it's not. That's not true.

Having an ultrasound is not difficult. It's no obstacle for any woman determined to abort her unborn baby. It simply helps her to be better informed about REALITY.

Have an ultrasound. Very simple. Maybe learn something about fetal development. The woman has the opportunity to see the fetus, the unique, genetically complete human life she's carrying.

Then, nothing stops her from proceeding with an abortion. This legislation doesn't prevent her from ending the unborn baby's life.

It might be "more difficult," morally and emotionally, to know that the abortion will indeed stop the baby's beating heart.

So if by "more difficult" Gerrish meant morally and emotionally, then her statement could accurately apply. However, I don't think there's any doubt her words were meant to give the viewer the impression that the Wisconsin Legislature was making abortion a more difficult procedure to obtain.

Not true. Having the developing baby killed is still just as easy as it has been.

Why didn't Gerrish say something like "before women abort their babies, the legislation provides that they will now be educated on fetal development"?

Education is a good thing.

The pro-abortion spin by the media is pathetic. It's very bad journalism.

I didn't get the cell phone message that there's a tornado warning for my area in Wisconsin, but I did get an email alert at 10:32 AM from Storm Team 4, WTMJ-TV.

Oh, my God, this is not a good Monday. A tornado warning AND a winter storm warning!

The tornado warning, of course, was a mistake.

A tornado warning caused confusion in southeast Wisconsin when the National Weather Service mistakenly sent it out as an "emergency alert" Monday morning.

The agency was conducting a planned emergency test and accidentally sent out text messages to cellphone subscribers with the wording, "Tornado Warning in this area til 10:45 AM CST. Take shelter now. Check local media. - NWS. Type: "Imminent extreme alert."

"The message went out as a test, but it went out in the wrong mode. That puts automatic wording in it," said Rudy Schaar, a data acquisition program manager with the National Weather Service. "It went out not in a test mode, so we had to cancel it."

The test messages did not say it was a test. All emergency managers were informed before time, Schaar said.

The agency is still trying to figure out what happened.

"That's why we test it," Schaar said.

Don't worry. There's no tornado. But, A WINTER STORM IS COMING!!!

"Get hot water! Get some disinfectant! Get some iodine!"

Shooting, 1st and Howard

This sort of thing does not happen on 1st and Howard.

Gunfire is not heard in this neighborhood.

Armed robbery suspects and police don't fire weapons there.

But, it did happen on Saturday AFTERNOON, shortly after 4:00 PM.

Unreal.

Shortly after 4:00, I was in a car going east on Howard, after exiting the freeway. Squad cars were arriving on the scene. Other than the activity of the cars rushing there and the sirens wailing, it looked to be pretty much business as usual. Traffic was moving along. There were more people than normal walking on Howard and standing on the street, but there was no crowd. There didn't seem to be any panic, just more and more police.

Two squads were blocking 1st Street, closing it to traffic. Clearly, something serious was happening.

As we passed, I looked down the little hill of the sloping street. About halfway down the block between Howard and Tripoli, I saw a man lying in the street. Another man was kneeling over him, doing chest compressions.

I freaked out. It was seconds but the sight was awful. I thought maybe the man on the ground had a heart attack. But that wouldn't elicit that sort of police response.

What was going on?

Squads kept coming. Had there been a robbery at the gas station on the corner of Howell and Howard?

I had a sick feeling. Something terrible had happened.

Later, I learned a 28-year-old Germantown man, an armed robbery suspect, was killed by police.

The media are offering dramatically conflicting information on the fatal shooting that occurred near 1st and Howard on Saturday afternoon.

TMJ4 aired a report at 10:00PM that strongly suggested the suspect was unnecessarily gunned down. It included an interview from a male witness whose identity was concealed. An earlier report on TMJ4 stated witnesses said the Citgo station was robbed, and the suspect fired at the police officer prior to the officer firing the shots that killed the suspect.

FOX6 News gave a different account on its 9:00PM newscast, featuring a witness saying he thought the suspect fired first and the officer returned fire.

It's terribly irresponsible and unprofessional for the media to put witnesses on the air, making judgments about what happened, giving the story as they perceive it to be, and report that as news.

I don't want to hear what witnesses have to say. Who cares? I want to hear facts.

The media should report information from officials. They should talk to Mayor Tom Barrett and what he's going to do to address crime.

There's nothing wrong with the media getting reaction from bystanders or people living in the neighborhood, but what they have to say should not be reported as factual accounts. The media should wait and get it right.

I feel so bad for the people in the neighborhood. So much can change so fast. One afternoon and everything changes.

Abusive New Berlin School Bus Driver Portrayed as Victim

Milwaukee media decided it was finally time to cover the story of the New Berlin bus driver who said to a child on her bus, "Maybe your mom should have chosen abortion for you."

That bus driver was fired by Durham School Services for her outburst.

This report says the bus driver is 81 years old. If that's accurate, the woman has aged three years in about three days. The mother of the harassed child It appears the bus company didn't know her actual age, originally saying she was 78.

I'm surprised that an 81-year-old woman is driving a school bus full of kids, especially someone as clearly unstable as this woman. I don't think it's safe.

In its report, FOX6 names the mother and the boy, Debbie Ann Hartlaub and Joey Hartlaub, and interviews them.

The reporter, Ashley Sears, also spoke to the bus driver by phone. Sears stated the bus driver "said there is a lot of confusion and said everyone is trusting the words of a little boy." Sears said the bus driver "didn't really understand what the uproar was."

TMJ4 also got around to covering the story, from a decidedly sympathetic angle on behalf of the bus driver.

TMJ4 interviewed the driver, noting the police are investigating death threats made to the bus company.

Carol, an 81-year-old bus driver, says the kids she was driving were bullying her about politics. But what she said to one of them was so shocking, the school bus company decided to fire her.

The kids on the bus were Romney supporters, the bus driver supports President Obama. But the fallout from this disturbance has been so heated, police are now investigating death threats.

Police officers are keeping a close eye on the Durham School Service Bus Company. The company started receiving death threats when the story of a blow up between one of their bus drivers and a student hit local talk radio.

The elderly bus driver was too afraid to appear on camera, but she's devastated.

The bus disturbance was between Carol, and Debbie Hartlaub's 12-year-old son. She's been driving him home from Holy Apostle School for the last four years. Hartlaub claims problems started two weeks ago when she put a Romney/Ryan sign on her front lawn.

"It started with him and another student chanting at the back of the bus. They were chanting Romney, Romney -- which is goofy and inappropriate -- but he's 12," says Debbie Hartlaub.

But Carol says the chanting was to taunt her, since the kids know she supports President Obama.

"And they kept it up, and kept it up. And they had other kids doing it too. And it got louder and louder and it just got to the point where I couldn't take this anymore, you know," says Carol.

"They were chanting Romney/Ryan. And as they did, the bus driver had other opinions about it and she decided to talk back," explains the kid's brother Michael Hartlaub.

And then, things got out of hand.

"My son said Obama is pro-abortion. And the bus driver said to him, well too bad your mom didn't choose abortion for you," claims Debbie Hartlaub.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Shelley Walcott: "Are you sorry Carol, that you said what you said to this boy?"

Carol: "Of course I am Shelley. I would have never said that. It's like I didn't have control over it. It was when they got me so upset already."

The bus driver is made out to be the victim in the TMJ4 report.

The poor old lady. She was being taunted by mean kids. She claims she would never say something like that to a child, EXCEPT SHE DID. Her excuse? She "didn't have control over it."

Debbie Hartlaub is made out to be rather cold and uncaring.

Hartlaub alerted the bus company. They fired Carol on Tuesday, after 23 years of service with no previous problems.

Carol is devastated.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Shelley Walcott: "What does this job mean to you?"

Carol: "Everything. It's my livelihood. It's my livelihood, Shelley."

"You know what? My son is my son. I could care less about her bus job being her livelihood," says Debbie Hartlaub.

Police are investigating the death threats made to the bus company. Debbie Hartlaub says she's reported Carol to the Waukesha County Health and Social Services for verbal abuse of a child.

It goes without saying, but I have to say it: Death threats are no way to respond to a situation like this.

I don't really know what TMJ4 means by "death threats made to the bus company." There were no specifics. Were certain employees of the company personally threatened?

Any and all threats should be investigated.

That said, it certainly sounds like TMJ4 is on the bus driver's side.

She was fired for defending herself. Poor Carol. She's devastated. She was harassed. She couldn't take the abuse.

Why did the kids on the bus even know that Carol was an Obama supporter? The bus driver should not be voicing her political opinions to the children. That in itself is inappropriate. I never knew the politics of any of my bus drivers.

I think she deserved to lose her job. A school bus driver should not be engaging in political discussion with the kids on the bus, let alone telling a child his mother should have aborted him.

It's inexcusable to lash out like that to a child in her care. She's the adult. She has to be able to deal with kids chanting "Romney, Romney" without flipping out. If she can't handle it, she's not fit to drive a school bus. She should have been concentrating on her driving and the safety of the children, not getting upset about a Romney yard sign.

If Carol is to be seen as a victim, then she must be considered a victim of her own lack of control and bad behavior.

At a couple minutes before midnight, on TMJ4, I just saw Obama's Big Bird ad.

The Sesame Workshop must be really ticked off at Obama and his campaign, after ignoring the request to pull the ad.
