WATCH this video. It shows a man walk into the prep area of a George Webb restaurant at S. 21st and West Mitchell in Milwaukee and lay out a female worker. Her co-worker pulls out her licensed concealed carry gun and stops the attack.

It gets better (well, worse, actually). The man, according to Alderman Bob Donovan (via MPD) has an "extensive criminal record" and is well known to police. So WEIRD he's still on the street.

This attack at a Webb's in Milwaukee is terrifying.

What would have happened if the waitress didn't have a gun?

A restaurant worker in Milwaukee says she and her co-worker feared for their lives when an angry customer became violent.

Surveillance video from a George Webb restaurant in Milwaukee shows the customer punching the restaurant manager in the face.

After that, a waitress pulls a gun from her apron and the man backs off.

...The manager of the restaurant says the waitress had a concealed carry permit and was allowed to have the weapon at work.

The waitress ended up quitting that night. The manager suffered a concussion, but is back at work.

Police are still looking for the suspect.

These women were doing their jobs and this violent maniac went on the attack.

What stopped him?

A woman with a gun.

Do you think she will be invited to be a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show or The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon?

Will she appear on The Tonys next year?

Will she be celebrated by Leftists for saving herself and the restaurant manager, and stopping the bad guy?

Tom Barrett: Stealing Cars in Milwaukee

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett made some stunning remarks during his debate with Bob Donovan on Wednesday, March 23.

Barrett put the word out that he "understands" stealing a car once or twice. In his mind, the third time is the problem.

What? WHAT?

TOM BARRETT: Look, I understand if someone steals a car once, you can make the argument it's a joy ride. Second time, if there's no gun involved, you can even say it then. but when you get to the third time, there has to be consequences. I'm not saying you send them to Lincoln Hills, because that has issues; but there has to be consequences if someone is out there stealing a car a third time.

Barrett goes on to say that he's not seeing criminals punished for the third car theft.

This guy wants to be reelected while admitting that car theft goes unpunished on his watch.

Barrett stands for the opposite of the "Broken Windows" theory.

These remarks should make every Milwaukee voter turn their backs on Barrett and vote for Donovan.

Unless, of course, you support stealing a couple of cars with impunity, with some undetermined sort of consequences after the third offense. Then, Barrett is your guy.

Tom Barrett: Walker Supporters = Trump Supporters

I'm sure there are many Scott Walker supporters offended by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's assertion that they are just like Donald Trump's supporters.

In a fund-raising email, Barrett tries to make money by equating Walker and Trump.

Dear Friend,

You know me.

I have always tried to move us forward by bringing people together, not by pitting people against each other. But that's not how other leaders operate.

We've seen this "divide and conquer" strategy before, first with Scott Walker -- and now with Donald Trump. Frankly, it makes me sick and I'm not going to stand for it. No nation, no state, and no city can afford that kind of leadership.

We can't let them divide us for their own political gain. And that's what my reelection is all about. Do we want a mayor who will keep moving us forward together or someone who will divide us? I will continue to work hard every day to make all of our neighborhoods--every neighborhood in our city--a better place to live, work and raise a family.

I am so proud of what we've accomplished, and together, we can keep fighting for Milwaukee.


We need to raise an additional $900 by midnight tonight to reach our February fundraising goal, and have the resources we'll need for victory in April.

Tom Barrett didn't manage to get 50 percent of the vote in the mayoral primary.

Not looking too strong.

With 100 percent of the precincts in, Barrett finished with 46 percent of the vote. Donovan followed with 33 percent. Alderman Joe Davis had 19 percent, followed by James Methu with 3 percent.

Barrett is running for a fourth term. He said he will work hard to lure voters who supported Davis in the primary.

He has won the last two mayoral elections with more than 70 percent of the vote.

Crime is a key issue in this race, but the April election will also be a presidential primary and will draw a bigger crowd to the polls, which insiders say favors Barrett.

Milwaukee residents would be crazy to reelect Barrett.

I would hope Joe Davis supporters would continue to want to unseat Barrett and stand with Donovan.

Voters should overwhelming choose change.

The city's crime problem needs to be addressed.

Bob Donovan appears to sincerely want to help improve the city. Without question, he is the choice for mayor.

Milwaukee residents should not be content with Barrett and the status quo. Time for change.

Woman, 89, Thwarts Carjacker

Great story. It's great in that it ended well for the victim, not great in the sense that criminals are targeting the elderly.

At a strip mall in Greenfield, a young thug tried to force an 89-year-old woman out of her car.

From Greenfield Now:

An 89-year-old woman escaped injury after she refused to allow a carjacker to pull her out of her vehicle at a Greenfield strip mall earlier this month.

The woman on Feb. 4 had just gotten into the driver's seat of her Toyota van after leaving a business in the 4100 block of South 108th Street , when she heard someone pound on her vehicle at about 12:10 p.m. A short time later a male appeared at her driver's side door, preventing it from closing.

The suspect, whom the woman described as a black male in his teens, grabbed her left arm near her elbow and tried to pull her out of her van. The woman told police she asked the suspect what he was doing there and then said: "Get out of here!" Her assailant ran off after the woman began honking her horn.

Although she did not see the suspect get into a vehicle, the woman told police she did notice that a black sedan parked behind her sped out of the lot immediately after the incident.

...Greenfield police later learned the suspect and occupants of the black sedan were involved in three other incidents later that day. The suspects allegedly stole a purse from a woman in West Allis, assaulted a woman in Milwaukee and stole her vehicle, and carjacked a vehicle in the parking lot of a Milwaukee Walmart. All the crimes occurred within a four-hour period.

The suspects, three boys and a girl, all from Milwaukee, range in age from 15 to 17, police said. At least one of the suspects was taken into custody.

Mayor Tom Barrett should comment on these Milwaukee thugs terrorizing women.

Do attacking women and stealing their cars and purses count as "War on Women" issues?

I think Bob Donovan would make a better mayor.

Tom Barrett's $500,000 2016 Campaign Stash

Milwaukee Mayor Tom "Trolley" Barrett has tons of cash on hand for his 2016 campaign.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has half a million dollars in his campaign war chest more than a year before the election.

His challengers have raised a fraction of that amount, according to campaign finance reports released Monday for the last six months of 2014.

...[Milwaukee Ald. Joe Davis Sr.], who serves as chair of the Common Council's Community and Economic Development Committee, has a cash balance of just over $11,000. His total receipts for the last half of 2014 were $100.

[Ald. Bob Donovan] raised $32,855 in the last half of the year and has a cash balance of $30,110. He represents the 8th District on the south side.

...Also filing a campaign finance report Monday was Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr., who raised $1,915 in the last half of 2014 and has a cash balance of $44,298.

Oh, God.

Milwaukee desperately needs new leadership.

The chances that will happen appear to be slim.

If only residents would wake up.

Milwaukee Aldermen Bob Donovan and Joe Davis, Sr. announced a citywide petition drive on Monday, January 5th — to force a binding referendum on funding for the proposed downtown streetcar project. Their goal — 31,000 signatures in 60 days.

Donovan and Davis plan to run against each other for mayor in 2016. But now, they are teaming up — opposed to Mayor Tom Barrett’s $123 million streetcar proposal.

“My constituents have made it very clear that they don’t see a return on investment in this particular initiative,” said Alderman Davis.

“You can support this, you can oppose it. I am simply saying give the people a voice,” said Alderman Donovan.

A broad coalition of City of Milwaukee constituents is fighting to stop an ill-advised and wasteful proposal to build a 2.4 mile, fixed-rail streetcar system in Downtown Milwaukee.

CRG Network has agreed to provide legal, technical, and logistical support for a direct legislation petition to require a referendum by City of Milwaukee voters prior to the construction of any taxpayer supported rail project over 20 million dollars. Here is the text of the proposed direct legislation.

Prior to the start of any physical construction of any municipally financed (in whole or in part) rail transit system requiring a capital expenditure of $20 million or more in municipal funds or funds guaranteed by or supported by an express or implicit promise of the City, whether or not such promise is legally enforceable, the Common Council shall submit to the electorate a binding referendum for approval of the construction of the system. Failure of the referendum shall preclude the City from proceeding with or otherwise permitting construction of such system or any part thereof using any City funds or revenues. The wording of the referendum shall provide the specific purpose, location, and the total estimated construction costs of the system, including an estimate of the costs to be funded directly or indirectly by the City. Nothing in this section shall be construed to preclude the City from exercising its role in the engineering, planning or design of an urban rail transit system.

What is Direct Legislation?

Wisconsin’s Direct Legislation Statute, section 9.20, gives voters a direct voice in local matters and provides a procedure by which voters may compel local government to pass or put before the public for a popular vote a proposed ordinance or resolution. How Many Signatures are Needed to Pass Direct Legislation?

Petitioners must collect signatures equal to 15% of the number of votes cast at the last gubernatorial election. That number is 30,800 signatures but the goal is 35,000 signatures given that some signatures may be disallowed for various technical reasons.

How Long Do Citizens Have to Collect the Signatures?

By staute, citizens have 60 days to collect the necessary signatures. However, the goal is collect and file them before the next Common Council vote scheduled for January 21. 2015. This deadline date may change for various reasons such as a rescheduling of the Common Council vote.

Who Can Sign the Petition?

Only eligible voters residing in the City of Milwaukee can sign the petition. You are not required to be a registered voter, only an eligible voter (i.e. at least 18 years of age, reside in Milwaukee, voting privileges not suspended).

Who Can Circulate the Petition?

You do not have to reside in Milwaukee to circulate a petition. Any person eligible to vote anywhere in the U.S. can circulate a petition for signature.

Bob Donovan - Milwaukee Mayor

Bob Donovan wants Tom Barrett's job. He's running for mayor of Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan confirmed with FOX6 News that he intends to announce he is running for the office of mayor in the city in 2016. Donovan told FOX6’s Mike Lowe he intends to do television interviews after his announcement is official on Tuesday evening, July 29th.

Donovan is the alderman for Milwaukee’s 8th District, the vice chair of the Common Council’s Public Safety Committee, the chair of the Anti-Graffiti Policy Committee and a member of the Judiciary and Legislation Committee. The biography on Donovan’s Common Council page says he was born and raised on Milwaukee’s south side, he’s a graduate of Thomas More High School and attended St. Francis De Sales College and UW-Milwaukee.

Milwaukee residents desperately need a change in leadership when it comes to the mayor's office.

Actually, Milwaukee residents desperately need a leader. They've done without one for a decade, and it shows.

Tom Barrett has been a terrible mayor, absolutely terrible.

On his watch, the city has declined dramatically.

Reelecting Barrett would be crazy.

It's definitely time for change.

Bob Donovan and Barrett's MPD Overtime Math

Bob Donovan doesn't make Tom Barrett's job any easier. Donovan confronts Barrett with what he may fear most-- the truth.

Donovan released the following statement about Barrett's plan to add $500,000 for police overtime in response to the slew of shootings plaguing the city:

I almost fell off my chair last week when I heard the mayor comment, “We need more boots on the street.”

However, I choose to remain optimistic that perhaps the mayor is finally getting it; after all, some of us have been saying it for years. His proposal to add $500,000 for police overtime is certainly a step in the right direction – but only a step. We need a much more comprehensive long term plan to address this problem – as I’ve said in the past, one modeled after New York City. While I have concerns about burning out officers, and tired officers making mistakes, I will support the overtime initiative.

If however we are expending $500,000 for more overtime, if we are asking the Governor and the State of Wisconsin to match it, and if indeed we need more boots on the street (which we do!) why are we still furloughing officers? Does it make sense to pay one officer overtime who may potentially be filling a position of an officer furloughed on straight time?

It doesn’t make sense to me.

I don't know why Bob Donovan is the only city leader pointing out this stuff, but I'm glad he's here doing it.

Bottom line: Barrett is not doing a good job. Milwaukee needs a new mayor.

Bob Donovan to Scott Walker: 'HELP'

Alderman Bob Donovan has had enough and he's not going to take it anymore.

Donovan is continuing his efforts to save the city. That means acknowledging the fact that Mayor Tom Barrett is a dismal failure. It's unacceptable to ignore the violence and bloodshed.

On Monday, Donovan wrote a letter to Governor Scott Walker, requesting a city-state partnership to address the violence crippling Milwaukee.

Donovan holds Barrett accountable. The buck stops with him.

Unfortunately, Barrett has been unwilling or unable to effectively tackle the violence.

Alderman Donovan said he counted 12 shootings reported in the city during the weekend of July 26-28, and at least 14 shootings (with two fatalities) during this past weekend.

In the letter, Alderman Donovan states: “Milwaukee has, indeed, become a “tale of two cities.” On the one hand, the city’s beautiful lakefront and RiverWalk, world-class museums and cultural attractions, and prosperous East Side and near-downtown neighborhoods are the envy of any city, capable of impressing governors from across the nation. But just beyond those sites, attractions and neighborhoods lies a completely different Milwaukee, a broad and expanding swath of neighborhoods that are crime-ridden, dysfunctional and a serious burden on the city as a whole.”

In short, Donovan is focusing on matters vitally important to the quality of life in Milwaukee. He's being a better leader than Barrett.

While some may argue that we should aspire to emulate Chicago in certain ways, violence shouldn’t be one of them. We certainly had a red letter weekend in Milwaukee – 12 shootings and still counting. Where’s the outrage? Or has violence and dysfunction become the norm in certain neighborhoods?

I for one am not at all satisfied with the level of public safety in Milwaukee and neither should anyone else be. If anyone disagrees with me, all I can say is that we must subscribe to different standards. You see, I remember the Milwaukee that once was and it sickens me to see what we’re becoming.

Allow me to elaborate...

July has been a rather challenging month beginning with a very violent 4th of July weekend. We then had numerous shootings throughout the month resulting in several deaths. It’s actually become difficult to keep track of it all because one shooting seems to roll into the next.

Two weeks ago we had an out of control mob brawling in the middle of the day, resulting in a 17-year-old being shot. We also had several vicious home invasions on the south side culminating in robbery and rape, in addition to all the violence and heartbreak that this last weekend brought. Couple all of this with a completely out of control drug trade in Milwaukee, an increasing number of Milwaukee’s youth having little or no regard or respect for the police, ongoing human trafficking and rampant prostitution, street robberies and vandalism, and you end up with a crime rate, per capita, that is higher than New York City and Los Angeles!

The current number of police officers is so low that if you call 911 you can end up waiting hours for a squad (and this is for serious crimes like your house being burglarized, not for a cat up a tree). What’s worse is that there is no plan whatsoever for filling our ever increasing police vacancies. No plan – period. This administration seems more interested in crime stats than in the big picture. I could go on and on.

None of what I have stated should be considered as an indictment of our hardworking men and women of the Milwaukee Police Department. Given all the challenges they face, they are doing the best they can with limited resources.
While Milwaukee faces many challenges, restoring public safety has got to be priority one, for without it, nothing else positive can occur.

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that lives are being snuffed out here and all too often it’s the lives of young people (some of our victims have barely reached puberty!). Families are left devastated and residents are left in fear.

Has this kind of violence and loss become so commonplace that it has somehow become perversely acceptable? Have our standards really declined to such an extent? Where’s the outrage?

All I could do is shake my head Sunday morning after watching the news and seeing the response of the mayor and Chief Flynn to this weekend’s devastating violence. They held a press conference and a street roll call. Does anyone really believe that these ever increasing stale roll call media shows accomplish anything? These displays do nothing more than allow the mayor and the Chief an opportunity to create the false impression that progress is being made. Two days later the neighborhood is back to business as usual.

During the press conference the Chief urged citizens to call the police when they see “trouble brewing.” The reality is that those folks have already been calling but all too often their concerns are met with a less than stellar response on the other end of the line. Citizens are often given the third degree, and after all that they are told that there are no squads available or their issue doesn’t sound that serious and they should call back if things escalate. Two or three responses like that and it’s easy to see why people get discouraged and stop calling.

During this press conference the mayor also urged parents and kids to comply with the curfew ordinances. While discussing curfew may be laudable, our problems go way beyond that Mr. Mayor. The reality is that we’re not living in Mayberry and we’re not talking about Wally and the Beaver misbehaving here. What we are talking about is drug dealers, gang bangers and thugs controlling some of our Milwaukee neighborhoods. We’re talking about decent, law-abiding citizens (many of whom are seniors) who have become prisoners in their own homes. None venture out at night and some not even during the day.

What we have now is a Milwaukee Police Department that is overworked and understaffed and when faced with all these current challenges, simply can’t keep up (which has resulted in morale landing in the gutter). What is being done about these issues? Please Mr. Mayor, tell me that Milwaukee isn’t pinning all its hope on curfew compliance. Where is the outrage?

Now I realize that many community groups and elected officials including the mayor are engaged in any number of worthwhile efforts. Youth diversion programs, mentoring efforts, the fatherhood initiative and cease fire Sabbaths are all well and good, but they are simply not enough and not necessarily the role of local government. Enforce the law and apprehend and punish the law breakers and keep our neighborhoods safe.

Other cities have faced the same challenges head on. They created the coalitions and partnerships needed to secure the resources necessary to confront these public safety issues and they’ve made the difficult decisions. They also had what Milwaukee seems to be lacking in – strong leadership. I point once again to New York City and the New York miracle. Why not Milwaukee? I say again, why not Milwaukee?

Yet sadly, over the years, Milwaukee has been saddled with far too many civic leaders both in government and in the private sector who have displayed little more than indifference and timidity in dealing with this most serious issue. Where is the outrage?

While our public officials can find the time and resources to move forward with a downtown streetcar or can debate building a new arena or the development of a plan for the future of the Art Museum and War Memorial, they seem utterly paralyzed when it comes to addressing the most serious issue facing our city – the violence that is both figuratively and literally killing Milwaukee.

We all should be outraged! Wake up Milwaukee, the clock is ticking.

Milwaukee has many problems. The city's rapid decay is tragic.

It's especially frustrating to witness its decline as leaders yap about a useless street car and focus on a killing in Florida rather than the epidemic of murder and shootings and other violent crime on Milwaukee's streets.

The reason those problems aren't being addressed: POOR LEADERSHIP.

The buck stops with Mayor Tom Barrett.

I think Milwaukee would be a very different place if Bob Donovan were mayor.

It would be a better place to live and work.

Barrett has been a disaster. Why are Milwaukeeans content to stick with a status quo that's nothing but snowballing failure?

Donovan's philosophy is like that of Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the man behind turning around New York City. I thought that Ed Flynn shared that philosophy. That's what he said when he became Milwaukee's police chief. I suppose he's limited by the resources he has.

Barrett's philosophy? Focus on silly projects as the city dies. That's not an effective plan. Whistling past the graveyard is not a plan. Barrett is failing Milwaukee.

What did we think would happen if we allowed a culture of dependence and victimhood to take root? What did we think would happen when intact family units, strong parents, and respect for authority were replaced with thug culture?

The violence and decay was inevitable.

All hope is gone if residents are willing to tolerate the rapid decline of the city. Where's the outrage?
