Democrat Unity Rally Cancelled

The Democrat unity rally, "Wisconsin Together," scheduled for May 9th, one day after the primary election, isn't going to happen.

Tom Barrett requested that rally be cancelled.

Coming on the heels of a divisive primary season for Wisconsin Democrats, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin has at the last minute decided to cancel a "Wisconsin Together" unity rally that would bring the Democrat candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor together with labor union leaders in the aftermath of their contentious recall primary. Instead, it appears the Democratic Party of Wisconsin and Tom Barrett will be holding a separate event in Milwaukee, far from the labor union activists who will continue to hold their rally at the capitol.

The Democratic Party of Wisconsin initially stated that a unity rally was to take place May 9th, 6:30 p.m. at the state capitol, featuring Tom Barrett, Kathleen Falk, Doug La Follette, and Kathleen Vinehout, who all confirmed their participation. According to sources, a permit for this rally was obtained weeks ago, and it has been confirmed that Lt. Governor Candidate Mahlon Mitchell recorded a robocall advertising this rally, which was then sent to Democrat voters throughout the state.

The decision to pre-empt this rally at the last minute has caused widespread anger and confusion amongst liberal pundits and activists alike, fueling speculation that Tom Barrett requested that this "Unity Rally" be cancelled, as he "does not want to be seen in the company of union leaders and union members for fear of having images of his participation in the rally being used against him by the Walker campaign."

"Why would Tom Barrett not attend a 'unity rally?'" asked Republican Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Ben Sparks. "Democrats in Wisconsin are clearly having trouble rallying behind a single candidate, and this does not bode well for a Democrat base that has shown lackluster excitement, at best, for their liberal slate of candidates.

"Middle-class families have shown their unified support for Governor Walker, with thousands of volunteers hard at work in the Republican Party of Wisconsin's Victory Centers. The fact that the Democrats' grassroots support is divided demonstrates a fractured party only weeks before the general election."

What's especially funny about this alleged "unity" rally being cancelled is Barrett's campaign mantra that he's going to bring Wisconsin together.

He claims that he's going to unify the state and end divisions.

Hey, Tom? Cancelling a unity rally within your own party doesn't exactly instill confidence about your ability to bring Wisconsin together.

Playing political games won't cut it. You can't hide from the union bosses and their minions, Tom.

Wisconsin Recall: Act 10 Amnesia

The Wall Street Journal takes note of what we're seeing as the recall of Governor Scott Walker plays out - the Democrats aren't running against Act 10.

Governor Walker's union reforms sparked the protests in Madison and were the rallying cry for the recall.

You'd never know it by listening to the Democrats.

Remember the Greek-style protests in Madison, the union sit-ins, the lawmakers who fled to Illinois to avoid voting on Scott Walker's collective-bargaining law last year? Now that the recall election of Mr. Walker is in full swing, Big Labor must be wondering where the outrage went.

Since last summer, unions have been throwing millions at defeating the man who reformed collective bargaining for government workers and required union members to pay 5.8% of their paychecks toward pensions and 12.6% of their health insurance premiums, modest contributions compared to the average in private business. As the May 8 Democratic recall primary nears to determine who will run against Mr. Walker on June 5, this should be their rhetorical moment ne plus ultra.

So, let's see. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, the front-runner, has focused his campaigns on jobs, education, the environment and "making communities safer." One of Mr. Barrett's ads singles out "Walker's War on Women," with nary a mention of collective bargaining. Former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk is heavily supported by union groups, but even her issues list makes only passing reference to collective bargaining.

No wonder. Since Mr. Walker's reforms went into effect, the doom and gloom scenarios have failed to materialize. Property taxes in the state were down 0.4% in 2011, the first decline since 1998. According to Chief Executive magazine, Wisconsin moved up four more places this year to number 20 in an annual CEO survey of the best states to do business, after jumping 17 spots last year.

The Governor's office has estimated that altogether the reforms have saved Badger State taxpayers more than $1 billion, including $65 million in changes in health-care plans, and some $543 million in local savings documented by media reports. According to the Wisconsin-based MacIver Institute, Mayor Barrett's city of Milwaukee saved $19 million on health-care costs as a direct result of Mr. Walker's reforms. Awkward turtle.

...Mr. Walker's reforms were a modest but necessary response to the state's fiscal problems, and the proof is in the emerging results. The union reaction was so ferocious because the reforms reduced Big Labor's clout over state and local taxpayers and thus its ability to milk taxpayers year after year without challenge.

Democrats and unions will still do all they can to recall Mr. Walker to prove to would-be reformers nationwide that unions can't be crossed. But it speaks volumes that Democrats are running on everything except their real goal—which is to restore the political dominance of government unions.

Bottom line: Wisconsinites are better off because of Governor Walker's reforms. They're working. The future is brighter. Walker delivered on his promise to change course and get the state back on track.

Replacing the visionary, successful Walker with a failure like Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett would be insane.

The Democrats cannot run against Act 10 for a simple reason: It's working. We all know it.

According to a Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday, only 12% of Wisconsin voters say "restoring collective bargaining rights" is their priority, which explains the Democratic decision to fight on other issues.

The Democrats have a problem with Barrett as their candidate: He's been a disaster for the city of Milwaukee. His record is abysmal.

Take a good look at Milwaukee, Wisconsin voters.

It's a disgrace that Barrett is still the city's mayor after years of his utter ineffectiveness.

He's been a terrible mayor. There is absolutely no reason to think he would be anything but a terrible governor.

Scott Walker, in an incredibly short time, has accomplished so much. Given how belligerent the Democrats have been, it's amazing that he's been able to stay focused and continue working for the people of Wisconsin.

You don't recall someone for a job well done.

Big Labor and WI Recall: BIG MONEY

Earlier this week, the Democrats and their Leftist media mouthpieces were yapping about Scott Walker's $13 million war chest.

The Left wants to focus on cash.

On one southeastern Wisconsin TV station, Tom Barrett declared that if the recall election is about money, he's going to lose.

His unprecedented and unprincipled money machine, which relies on donations from out-of-state, has put Wisconsin up for sale. Does anyone believe that the special interests that are giving to Scott Walker have Wisconsin's best interest at heart?

The unprecedented amounts of money coming to defend Scott Walker's radical agenda are breathtaking and it is true that we will be badly outspent. It is also true that, at the end of the day, and until Walker makes it otherwise, money does not vote. The people vote. And it is the people of Wisconsin who will win victory over Scott Walker on June 5th."

The "pieces of silver" reference is over the top offensive. Typical Democrat stuff.

So the party set the talking points and the Democrat candidates latched on to the narrative. The media, willing partners, did their part to spread the word that Gov. Walker had big money and the poor little Democrats had a pittance in comparison.

What a load!

EXCLUSIVE: Big Labor Pours $7 Mil. Into Recall, Likely to Exceed 2011 Spending

Just released campaign finance documents show Big Labor both inside and outside of Wisconsin pouring just over $7 million into the effort to recall Governor Scott Walker and four GOP state senators. In the 2011 recall campaign combined total spending by unions and progressive groups reached $14.7 million, or just over twice what labor unions alone have managed to raise or spend in what is the opening round of the effort to knock out Governor Walker less than two years into his term.

Much of this pre-primary spending, disclosed in reports that ended April 30, went to promoting Democrat gubernatorial candidate Kathleen Falk and a bevy of attack ads aimed at Governor Walker. Tom Barrett, considered the favorite of Democrat Party insiders in the May 8th recall primary, directly benefited from only a fraction of labor spending.

Because it is still unclear as to which Democrat will be facing off against Walker in a general election set for June 5th, it does appear that labor groups may be holding off on releasing all of the money and manpower they can muster for the effort.

Wisconsin for Falk – an independent group promoting Falk’s campaign – has served as a conduit for millions of Big Labor dollars. AFSCME dumped $1,264,233 into them and WEAC invested an astounding $3,043,800 in the project. The money has mainly been spent on television and radio ads simultaneously bashing Walker and touting Falk. Should Falk lose the primary it is likely that the group will be shuttered in favor of another conduit since groups like WEAC have already promised to rally behind the eventual Democrat nominee.

We Are Wisconsin, an AFL-CIO creation, has a PAC and independent expenditure fund that served as major channels for Big Labor and progressive money flowing into Wisconsin’s 2011 recall elections. For the 2012 recalls they are back in action funded in part by over $524,000 from AFSCME’s state and national accounts and $500,000 from the SEIU.

The National Education Association, according to research conducted by the John K. MacIver Institute, spent only $219,670 on Wisconsin’s 2011 recall elections. They became the first labor group to nearly triple their spending in Wisconsin in 2012 by pouring $668,457 into We Are Wisconsin’s political fund.

The Greater Wisconsin Committee has a PAC that received labor money from We Are Wisconsin. The independent expenditure arm of the Greater Wisconsin Committee took $500,000 from the Democrat Governor’s Association.

Firefighters for Mahlon, an independent group promoting Democrat lieutenant governor candidate Mahlon Mitchell, a firefighter’s union boss, netted a quarter million dollars from the International Association of Firefighters. The fund also benefited from the contributions of local firefighter’s unions from as far away as California and Oregon.

A majority of the unions contributing to Democrat Tom Barrett’s gubernatorial campaign are private sector unions.

All told, the axis of Big Labor still has $2.8 million left in cash-on-hand just over a week out from the Democrat primary. After the primary the recall election campaign will begin in earnest, as Walker becomes the sole focus the Left’s financial phalanx.

If Barrett is the nominee, the notion that he will have no campaign money compared to Gov. Walker is ludicrous.

Big Labor will stop at nothing to stop US from electing Scott Walker, again.

The Leftists intend to overturn the November 2010 election and put Wisconsin back in a death spiral.

Bottom line: Scott Walker's reforms are working for us. Voting him out of office and replacing him with Tom Barrett, the miserable mayor steadily destroying Milwaukee since 2004, would be akin to suicide.

Graeme Zielinski: 'Why I Burned the Flag'

Graeme Zielinski is the official spokesman for the Democrat Party of Wisconsin.

He conducts himself like a rabid attack dog, and Tom Barrett and Kathleen Falk and the Democrats and their media mouthpieces are OK with that. I suspect they're thrilled with Zielinski's bullying, thuggish tactics.

I don't know how they can be comfortable with someone like Zielinski being the public face and voice of the Democrat party.

I believe it is not for government to decide how we should criticize it, and I come to the debate not as one who feels a great need to criticize government, nor as one who hates America. As a matter of fact, I love America. It's what I was taught, what I believe.

That is what I said some years ago when I burned a flag.

It was on a University of Wisconsin campus, long after the tumult during the 1960s when flag burnings were rife. There was no such tumult in 1995, however, and the only thing on fire was the flag I held at the end of a stick. I was in a near-empty square that used to be overflowing with protesters. But on this winter afternoon, the burning was witnessed by a few bystanders. I had no over-arching philosophy or ennobling ideas; I did not seek to petition the government for a redress of grievances. I went to the square with some lighter fluid and a flag seeking only to protest the effort to make my protest illegal.

But that is a foundational idea in itself, since how we protest is entwined with how we think. How I chose to act would be enough to land me in jail, if he world were as the flag alliance would have it. But I am confident that this world won't come to be because what I love most about America is its commitment to freedom and not mere idols. You wouldn't think such enormous issues were at stake when I burned the flag.

The few witnesses stared blankly, some with the pursed lips of disapproval. The fire extinguished itself, anti-climactically, and one young man asked for the flag's remains, presumably to be put on display on his dorm wall along with his Fugazi rock band poster.

For my part, I had the warmth of satisfaction, knowing that I exercised a freedom offensive to most people (myself included in most cases), but nonetheless protected in our great country.

Are Tom Barrett and Kathleen Falk and other Wisconsin Democrats proud of the actions of their official spokesman, Graeme Zielinski, proud American flag burner?

Has anyone in the mainstream media asked them what they think about having someone like Zielinski as the spokesman for the state's Democrat party?

Burning the American flag gave Zielinski the "warmth of satisfaction."

How can burning in protest the flag that his draped hundreds and hundreds of thousands of caskets holding the remains of our war dead, and millions of caskets holding the remains of our military veterans, police officers, and firefighters give Zielinski the "warmth of satisfaction"?

To me, that's sick. It speaks to Zielinski's character.

The way in which we exercise our freedom reveals a lot about each of us.

We are responsible for what we do. Our actions say more about who we are as individuals than any words possibly could. What we do is who we are.

Graeme Zielinski takes satisfaction in burning the most powerful symbol of our country. That's who he is.

Be proud, Democrats.

Anyone paying attention knows that Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has been a disaster.

Barrett says Wisconsin needs a governor who will truly focus on job creation.

I thought this recall election was grounded in opposition to Act 10 and the changes in collective bargaining.

These Dems shouldn't be allowed to change the subject and turn this into just another election, as if November 2010 never happened.

Nuns, Walker Recall Petitions - SOCIAL JUSTICE

This story from Breitbart's Big Government doesn't surprise me at all.

As the Catholic Church takes action to counter the left-wing drift of American nuns, Breitbart.com has learned that hundreds of nuns are involved in the left's campaign to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R)--in favor of pro-choice Democratic challengers.

The nuns who have circulated and signed petitions include sisters from convents and other Catholic institutions across the state.

Over 100 signatures, for example, all of female voters, as verified through iverifytherecall.com, list the same address as a Dominican institution in Sinsinawa, WI, in the southwestern portion of the state. Representatives of that organization could not be reached for comment.

One Catholic official at a school with a large number of signatories stressed that Catholic organizations advocate for the poor and downtrodden, but do not take political positions, and that what their individual members do is up to them alone.

Though many Catholic voters support Walker, and roughly 40% of Wisconsin Republican primary voters are Catholic, there is some Catholic opposition to Walker's collective bargaining reforms among those partial to the "social justice" movement within the Catholic Church. Democrats are hoping to tap into that opposition.

It's very sad that these Catholic nuns are so misguided.

In the name of "social justice," they align themselves with radical anti-life people like Kathleen Falk and Tom Barrett. (Read Tom Barrett's pro-abortion fundraising email below.)

Frankly, it's disgraceful.

It boggles my mind that these nuns jump to disregard the most fundamental aspect of practicing our faith and the social justice doctrine - respecting life itself.

Human dignity is the foundation. The sanctity of life is what it's all about.

We can't talk about caring for the poor and the sick and the weak if they're MURDERED before taking their first breath, now can we?

Of course, these Leftist nuns signed the Walker recall petition.

Using the online searchable database of the Scott Walker recall petitions, I've found the signatures of many priests as well.

Again, given their homilies and their clear politicking during MASS, I wasn't surprised.

I've been meaning to write a post about what I found. I've thought about naming names and holding them accountable. Suffice it to say radical priests have signed to oust Walker.

How can these priests be willing to blind themselves to the Democrat attacks on our religious freedom and to the Democrats' decades-long assault on the sanctity of life?

I don't get it.

I don't get a lot of what's going on in the Church, MY Church.

Naturally, the Leftists embrace the Leftist nuns and clergy. They serve to boost the Leftists' moral position.

That makes it all the more disgusting. Truly disgusting.

Leftist, anti-Scott Walker Catholic nuns and priests, why are you OK with the slaughter of the unborn? Why do you support candidates that promote the murder of the weak and vulnerable? Where is the "social justice" in that?

The violent rhetoric at an ILLINOIS rally against Scott Walker indicates that they don't; or they completely understand and have decided to be as uncivil as they what to be.

Rev. T. Ray McJunkins of Springfield’s Union Baptist Church and USAction’s William McNary engaged in violent rhetoric to rile up a union crowd of thousands just yards away from an Illinois appearance by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

McNary challenged Walker to “knuckle up” while McJunkins said they’re going to “cut your head off,” likening Walker to Goliath.

Yikes! The teachers' unions in Illinois seem as crazed as the unions in Wisconsin.

"Goliath" in this recall scenario isn't Scott Walker, a democratically elected governor. The unions, the Democrat Party, and the White House are playing the role of "Goliath."

Each Wisconsin voter is a "David." But we don't have to cut off anyone's head or speak in violent terms. We just have to make our voices heard at the polls. It's a peaceful, yet powerful, act.

My promise: I will NEVER write a post about cutting off Tom Barrett's head or Kathleen Falk's head. Not gonna do it. I'm not going to "knuckle up." I'm a peace-loving Wisconsinite. I don't talk that way. I don't walk that way.

But on June 5th, I'm going to vote for Scott Walker and Rebecca Kleefisch. On Recall Election Day, I personally am going to see to it that Walker supporters I know get to the polls and vote.

That's what democracy looks like.

No violence. No beheadings. No knuckling up. No screaming.

Tom Barrett, political genius, announced very late on Friday afternoon that he will be challenging Kathleen Falk for the Democrat nomination in the recall election of Scott Walker.

The weekend has begun. People are disengaged, and Barrett announces his candidacy. Is he trying to hide something? It's as if he doesn't want people to notice.

I can understand why.

Tom Barrett, current mayor of Milwaukee, has been a disaster. On his watch, the city has deteriorated. I've seen it.

Now, one more time, Barrett wants to take a stab at being the governor of Wisconsin, doing for the state what he's done to Milwaukee.

John "Sly" Sylvester, WTDY radio host, must be held accountable for his sexist, vulgar attacks on Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.

Is Kathleen Falk really the best Wisconsin Democrats can do?

She doesn't have a record of success.

Back in 2009, David Blaska wrote: Have Voters Grown Weary of Kathleen Falk?

Remember Brittany Zimmermann?

Brittany Zimmermann, who was engaged to be married and was studying to be a doctor, was stabbed and strangled in her locked apartment on April 2, in the middle of the day, only six blocks from Falk's office, the Madison Police Department and Falk's 911 emergency communications center.

The 911 Center bungled Zimmermann's plea for help, failed to call her back and sent police on a wild goose chase by misidentifying the source of the dropped call.
Falk might have chalked up the horrifying mistake to human error or bad luck, save for a little history. In April 2004, a consultant recommended that Dane County immediately hire eight additional dispatchers. Instead, the exec tried to cut three existing dispatchers. It didn't help that the 911 Center manager she hired was the only one of four applicants with no pertinent experience.

Other than the fact that Falk has vowed to be the unions' puppet, I don't see why Wisconsin Dems find her appealing as a candidate.

I suppose the union puppet thing is enough for them.

It certainly isn't going to win over other Wisconsinites.

Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess and Big Labor appear to have the same goal.

Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess' issued the permanent injunction, finding the law unconstitutional because it would abridge the right to vote. He wrote in his eight-page ruling that "voter fraud is no more poisonous to our democracy than voter suppression." Although the Legislature and Gov. Scott Walker have the power to enact laws regulating elections, they had exceeded their constitutional authority by eliminating the right to vote for certain eligible voters, he said.

A Dane County judge blocks the law just as the Scott Walker recall election gets into gear.

Top labor leaders say they expect to spend more than ever on both state and federal contests this year. And if recent elections are any indicator, unions could drop more than $450 million, which they reportedly doled out in the 2008 election.

...Top labor operatives say they’re still mapping out their strategies for 2012 with state and local affiliates, but here’s an early look at states and races where some of the biggest unions are planning to strike:

Enemy No. 1: Scott Walker:

First up, labor groups have set their sights on the recall vote of Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker, who became a favorite target of unions nationwide for his efforts to roll back public employees’ collective-bargaining rights. Ousting Walker in the recall expected in May or June would be a major symbolic victory for labor groups, and a victory in the Badger State would give unions and their backers a big momentum boost heading into the fall elections.

Defeating Walker isn’t out of the question. A recent survey showed him locked in a virtual dead heat with his potential Democratic opponents.

Maybe defeating Walker isn't out of the question if Wisconsin voters are disenfranchised via fraud.

It's scary to know that the Leftists will do ANYTHING to overturn the 2010 election.

In spite of attempts by the likes of Richard Niess to allow Wisconsin to be a haven for stealing elections, I have faith in the people of my state.

The Dems/unions couldn't defeat Alberta Darling. They couldn't defeat David Prosser.

I don't think the decisive majority that elected Walker in 2010 is going to sit back and watch the Left destroy that democratic process.

Leftist extremist and union hack Kathleen Falk, on her own merits, cannot win a statewide election in Wisconsin.

Union Boss Balistreri: Dems 'Job Killers'

Tell me something I don't know.

Wisconsin Senate Democrats are job killers.

What's stunning about Lyle Balistreri's remarks at a union gathering at Serb Hall is that he bashed these Democrats.

Dissension in the ranks.

LYLE BALISTRERI: (angrily) The people, the workers of the state of Wisconsin, while you're playing your partisan games, are the ones that are suffering. We're sick of it.

For the Senate Democrats to vote against this bill is a sign that they're not with us. They're certainly not job creators, and, in fact, they're job killers.

Lyle Balistreri wasn't scheduled to speak during Wednesday night's "Reclaim Wisconsin" rally at Serb Hall, but took the stage anyway to lash out against what he called the "ugly partisan politics" that led to the rejection of a mining permit bill.

He singled out the 16 senate democrats who voted no including Milwaukee State Senator Spencer Coggs who was also in attendance.

Balistreri represents more than 15-thousand construction trades workers in southeast Wisconsin, men and women who would have benefited from the mining reform bill.

"For the Senate Democrats to vote against this bill is a sign that they're not with us. They're certainly not job creators, and in fact they're job killers. And I'm sick and tired of the partisan politics in the State of Wisconsin. The working people in the state of are taking a beating. Democrats and Republicans are at each other's throats, and this sort of thing has to stop," said Balistreri.

I'm waiting for Balistreri to backtrack, or at least slap around some Republicans.

Still, hearing him say that the 16 Senate Dems are "JOB KILLERS" is something that will echo through the Scott Walker recall campaign.
