Democrats in Puerto Rico, See 'Hamilton'

From the Washington Examiner:
Some 30 Democratic lawmakers left the government shutdown behind Friday on a chartered flight to Puerto Rico for a winter retreat with 109 lobbyists and corporate executives during which they planned to see the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” and attend three parties including one with the show’s cast.

Those attending the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC winter retreat in San Juan planned to meet with key officials to discuss the cleanup after Hurricane Maria at a roundtable Saturday.

But the weekend is packed with free time for the members and their families on the trip.

...The event is taking place in a seaside resort where rooms go for $429 a night. Food is being provided.

BOLD PAC, the political arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, chartered a 737 for members, their families, and chiefs of staff to attend the weekend. The memo said the weather will be a balmy 80 degrees. The dress code is "resort casual."

A spokesman would not identify the members, but Secrets obtained a list that included several congressional leaders. On the list was Speaker Nancy Pelosi, but an official in her office said that she did not make the trip.
Democrats living the good life.

Very bad optics.

'Hamilton' in Milwaukee

Hamilton is coming to Milwaukee, but it will be a bit of a wait, maybe two years.

From OnMilwaukee:

"The national tour of the Broadway musical 'Hamilton' will play in Milwaukee as part of the 2019-20 season, it was announced today by producer Jeffrey Seller and the Marcus Center as part of the Associated Bank Broadway at the Marcus Center and Broadway Across America-Milwaukee series," reads the press release.

To guarantee tickets to "Hamilton," the Marcus Center recommends purchasing a season subscription for the 2018-19 season. Subscribers who renew their subscriptions for the new season will be able to guarantee their seats for "Hamilton" before tickets become available to the general public.
Hamilton is an excellent show. I loved it.

I guess it was a matter of just getting lucky but we managed to get tickets for a performance of the Chicago production only five days into its run. That was in October of 2016, and we didn't have to go through the secondary market. It is possible to get tickets.

There is no way I would get a season subscription for Milwaukee's 2018-19 season solely to secure Hamilton tickets for the following season. It's not necessary.

If you want to see the show, you can get tickets.

By the time it gets to Milwaukee, I would think most people really interested in Hamilton would have seen it. It will have been playing in nearby Chicago for at least THREE YEARS by the time the 2019-20 season rolls around.

Jimmy Fallon: Mike Pence, Jets Game, Hamilton Joke

JIMMY FALLON: I saw that last night Vice President-elect Mike Pence attended the New York Jets game at MetLife Stadium, where the Jets lost 41-10. Pence heard so much booing he thought he was seeing Hamilton again.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Planned Parenthood

What is Giving Tuesday?

#GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners— nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals—to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness.

As a global movement, #GivingTuesday unites countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.

The purpose of Giving Tuesday and giving the gift of death by supporting Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, are at odds.

Ripping a baby apart, killing the little one, isn't an act of kindness.

From LifeNews:

On Tuesday, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda spotlighted abortion giant Planned Parenthood as part of the annual #GivingTuesday effort on Twitter. Miranda re-Tweeted a follower’s post that sang the praises of his mother, Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda, for her service on the national board for the left-wing organization. The celebrity added, “Working on this…,” and included the Giving Tuesday hashtag.

Miranda's support of Planned Parenthood runs counter to his concern for diversity and supporting minorities. The abortion provider kills a disproportionate number of African American babies.

Of course, when Mike Pence and some of his family members attended the Broadway production of Hamilton, he was subjected to a lecture about the fears and anxiety experienced by a diverse America in the wake of Donald Trump's election.

BRANDON VICTOR DIXON: Vice President-elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton: An American Musical. We really do.

We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir.

But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values, and to work on behalf of all of us. All of us.

According to the New York Times:
The statement that Mr. Dixon read was written by the show’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda; its director, Thomas Kail; and the lead producer, Jeffrey Seller, with input from cast members, Mr. Seller said.
So, Miranda fears that the new administration won't protect "our children"?

He's got to be kidding!

The politically active and allegedly socially concerned Miranda promotes the Planned Parenthood mission, a portion of which is ending human lives. That is undebatable.

ABORTION DOESN'T PROTECT CHILDREN.

Jimmy Fallon: Trump, Pence, 'Hamilton' Jokes

JIMMY FALLON: On Friday, Donald Trump agreed to settle his Trump University lawsuits for $25 million. Then on Saturday, he called the U.S. Treasury Department and said, 'I'd like to make a withdrawal. Is that how this works?'

Get this, Donald Trump claimed that he decided to settle the Trump University lawsuit so he could focus on running the country. Then, he went back to tweeting insults at the cast of Hamilton.

Did you hear about this? Vice President-elect Mike Pence went to see Hamilton over the weekend and he was booed by people in the audience when he entered the theater. And if the crowd wasn't mad enough already, Pence waited until a quiet scene to open up a bag of Skittles.

This is pretty interesting here, after Mike Pence was booed at Hamilton, Donald Trump tweeted that he heard that the show was, quote, highly overrated. It turns out Trump has actually tweeted a lot about other Broadway shows as well.

For instance, he tweeted:
Just saw "Rent." Such a sad story. I teared up when landlord didn't evict those kids!

Another time, Trump tweeted:
Can't believe I just wasted two hours watching "Hairspray." Only went because I thought it was about me!

Trump also tweeted:
Just attended "The Lion King." TOTAL ripoff of the movie. WTF?? Unoriginal!

Finally, he tweeted:
Wish I'd sat in the front row when I saw "Cats" because all I wanted to do was grab one of them. I can do it because I'm a star!

Chicago: Trump Supporter Disrupts 'Dear Theodosia'

"Dear Theodosia" is a beautiful moment in Hamilton: An American Musical. It's a love song. Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, new fathers and long-time opponents, express their shared feelings for their newly born children, two seemingly very different people feeling the same way and wanting the same things for their little ones.

It's a very quiet and tender point in the production.

The alleged Trump supporter who disrupted the Chicago performance of Hamilton last night knew what he was doing, breaking that gentle moment for maximum effect.

From the Daily Caller:

It did not take long for a Donald Trump supporter to respond to the way the Broadway cast of “Hamilton” treated Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

BroadwayWorld reports a Trump supporter disrupted the Saturday night performance of “Hamilton” in Chicago.

The audience member, who was sitting in the balcony, reportedly shouted, “We won! You Lost! Get over it! F*ck you!” during the number “Dear Theodosia.”

One Twitter user, BroadwayWorld notes, claims that the disrupter ended up in a conflict with security prior to being removed from the theater.

It did not take long for a Donald Trump supporter to respond to the way the Broadway cast of “Hamilton” treated Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

Additionally, a Facebook user wrote, “At the end, the performers were crying… so was I. They didn’t break characters once. They still sang their hearts out.”

The cast of “Hamilton” initially stepped into the political spotlight Friday night when Pence attended a show with his family that evening and was booed by audience members, as well as singled out for criticism by cast members throughout the performance.

After the curtain call, the cast all appeared on stage to address Pence directly. Cast member Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr in the show, lectured Pence.

Donald Trump criticized the Hamilton cast on Twitter saying they “harassed” Pence, and called for an apology to his running mate. Trump also tweeted Sunday morning that the play was “overrated.”

More:

Update: an audience member has exclusively confirmed to BroadwayWorld that the initial disturbance began after the audience member was enraged by the line "immigrants, we get the job done." The majority of the audience cheered that specific line.

Audience members exited the auditorium to retrieve venue staff to remove the disruptive audience member. Our source confirmed that the altercation lasted for at least two numbers and that there was a struggle with security but "he didn't throw punches."

The audience member also informed us that venue staff later said the audience member had been intoxicated.
"Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)" has the line, "immigrants, we get the job done."

When I was there, some audience members did cheer that specific line, too, but not the majority of those in attendance.

This is awful, the whole Hamilton/Pence/Trump mess.

Given the revelations from Project Veritas, and the bragging by Democrat operatives that they were responsible for planting people at Trump rallies to create disruptions and other protests, I won't assume the person who disrupted the Chicago performance is actually a Trump supporter.

It could be that once again Democrats wanted to give their complicit Leftist media something to report that would paint Trump supporters in a negative way, especially considering the backlash over the lecturing of Mike Pence by the Broadway cast of Hamilton on Friday night.

Of course, it also could be that the person really did support Trump and chose to protest. Reportedly, the guy was intoxicated. I'm sure I've been in audiences with many drunks, but I've never experienced a disruption like this one.

Whatever, it was a terrible thing to do. There is no excuse for that behavior. NONE.

Audience members do not shout during a performance. They do not disrupt what is happening on stage. Period.

I would have been outraged if an incident like that happened when I saw this show or any other show.

I wish I knew the truth about the alleged "supporter," but it really doesn't make a difference in terms of the disruption.

It was so wrong to subject the performers and, more importantly, the audience, to such a vile protest.

Right now, things really have become poisoned in this country. The worst part is I don't see things improving.

Time for everyone to behave. And Trump is wrong about the musical being overrated.

Boycott 'Hamilton'

In October, I went to see the Chicago production of Hamilton.

It was excellent.

Had the New York cast done its lame Mike Pence diss before I saw the show, that would not have kept me from going. Prior to the date I went, I was aware of interviews with the Chicago cast, slamming Trump and his supporters. I didn't like it but I wasn't surprised. Same old, same old.

Conservatives need to put a lot of crap from the Leftists in entertainment aside. That's nothing new.

The following tweet, however, is the sort of thing that bugs me:

People who voted for Trump aren't necessarily backward rubes.

That elitist attitude from the Leftists is so annoying and so off-base. Their cluelessness and misperceptions probably have something to do with their election losses. They're out of touch.

It gets a little tiring being insulted all the time, but when you know they're so wrong, none of it really matters.

'Hamilton' and Mike Pence

Mike Pence went to see Hamilton on Broadway Friday night.

He was subjected to boos and a lecture from the cast. In short, he was treated disrespectfully. That doesn't sound like a pleasant evening at the theater to me.

After the performance, during the curtain call, Brandon Victor Dixon, the actor who plays Aaron Burr, gave a statement on behalf of the cast.

BRANDON VICTOR DIXON: Thank you so much for joining us tonight. You know, we have a guest in the audience this evening. Vice President-elect Pence, I see you're walking out, but I hope you will hear us, just a few more moments.

[Some boos.]

There's nothing to boo here, ladies and gentlemen. There's nothing to boo here. We're all here sharing a story of love. We have a little message for you, sir, and we hope that you will hear us out. And I encourage everybody to pull out your phones and tweet and post because this message needs to be spread far and wide. OK?

Vice President-elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton: An American Musical.

All of us.

Again, we truly thank you for sharing this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men and women of different colors, creeds, and orientations.
Good grief!

These people are nuts.

CNN considered it BREAKING NEWS!

Hamilton is a fantastic show. It's a shame that the cast thought it was appropriate to call out Mike Pence like that.

They're "alarmed and anxious" that the new administration "will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights."

What are they talking about?

Do these people really think that the Constitution and the law are going to be tossed aside come January 20, 2017?

If that's what they think, then they are seriously delusional.

Obviously, Dixon's suggestion that people tweet and post the cast's statement reeks of self-importance. Ooh, they did something really special, dissing the next president and vice president of the United States!

Naturally, the Leftists are loving it. If they consider this some sort of great victory, well, good for them.

In terms of Dixon's comments about drawing "inspiration" from the story, someone should let the cast know that Alexander Hamilton was instrumental in creating the Electoral College system. Hamilton was the likely author of Federalist No. 68, arguing for the Electoral College to be used in selecting the president.

Get inspired, cast of Hamilton. Read The Federalist Papers.

And by the way, Hillary Clinton lost the election, but at least you can enjoy your special Hamilton moment. Savor it, if it makes you happy.

Tonight Show Anti-Trump Guests: Bill Maher and Daveed Diggs

Last Friday, I heard Jimmy Fallon say that Bill Maher would be his guest on Monday night.

Fallon claims to want to be the guy everyone can go to for a laugh. The Tonight Show is supposed to be a happy place.

Unfortunately, Fallon and his team are choosing to take a stand the night before the election by giving Bill Maher a forum to bash Trump.

Bad call. Very divisive.

Daveed Diggs is also scheduled for Monday's show.

Diggs played Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette in the Broadway production of Hamilton. He won a Tony for his phenomenal performance.

It's worth noting that Diggs has this eight-minute "PSA" telling Millennials to vote for Hillary:

DAVEED DIGGS: We're gonna conduct a serious side by side comparison of a racist, misogynist, Cheeto-dusted, human trash fire to a woman who's devoted the last forty years of her life to public service as first lady, senator, secretary of state, and now the first woman in history to be nominated for president of the United States.

Fallon and The Tonight Show are making quite a statement.

I just want to relax and laugh. It's not enough to stay off the Internet to avoid all the election divisiveness. Network "entertainment" TV is also not a safe zone.
