Before the failed Times Square bomber was identified as radical Islamist and enemy of America Faisal Shahzad, Bloomberg voiced his belief that the suspect was an American disgruntled with Obama and Democrat policies.
Bloomberg said, "If I had to guess, twenty five cents, this would be exactly that. Homegrown, maybe a mentally deranged person or somebody with a political agenda that doesn't like the health care bill or something."

Bloomberg reveals the depth of his disdain for the majority of Americans who disapprove of the direction Obama and his Dem cohorts are taking the country.
After a raucous hearing, a Manhattan community board backed a proposal on Tuesday evening to build a Muslim community center near the World Trade Center.
The 29-to-1 vote, with 10 abstentions, followed a four-hour back-and-forth between those who said the community center would be a monument to tolerance and those who believed it would be an affront to victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The board’s vote was advisory — it did not have the power to scrap plans for a center — but it was seen as an important barometer of community sentiment.
Middle school students and rabbis were among the more than 100 people who testified at the hearing, which was held a short distance from ground zero. Some carried pictures of family members killed in the attacks; others brandished signs reading “Show respect for 9/11. No mosque!”
C. Lee Hanson, 77, whose son Peter was killed in the attacks, said he opposed the center not because he was intolerant, but because he believed that building a tribute to Islam so close to the World Trade Center would be insensitive.
“The pain never goes away,” Mr. Hanson said. “When I look over there and I see a mosque, it’s going to hurt. Build it someplace else.”
Jean Grillo, 65, a writer from TriBeCa, said shutting out any faith undermined American values. “What better place to teach tolerance than at the very area where hate tried to kill tolerance?” she said.
The proposed center, called the Cordoba House, would rise as many as 15 stories two blocks north of where the twin towers stood. It would include a prayer space, as well as a 500-seat performing arts center, a culinary school, a swimming pool, a restaurant and other amenities.
...City officials, including Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg; the City Council speaker, Christine C. Quinn; and the Manhattan borough president, Scott M. Stringer, have rallied behind the proposal.
The City Council has the power to overturn decisions on landmarks, but Ms. Quinn pledged on Tuesday to help shepherd the center to completion.
“I’m very confident we could find a way for both the landmark concept and the development of the mosque to move forward,” she said.
The center is estimated to cost $100 million, but exactly how the Cordoba Initiative will finance the project remains unclear.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who has led services in TriBeCa since 1983, told the board the center would help “bridge and heal a divide” among Muslims and other religious groups.
“We have condemned the actions of 9/11,” he said. “We have condemned terrorism in the most unequivocal terms.”
I understand the emotions of family members who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks.
I also understand the point about tolerance for all religions.
I think there needs to be a thorough look into the Cordoba Initiative. Who is Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, Chairman of Cordoba Initiative?
Are there any connections at all between the group and radical Islam, such as financial support of terrorist factions?
Even if the Cordoba Initiative is thoroughly vetted and found to be staunchly opposed to the barbarism of radical Islam, I don't understand why there should be a mosque at the World Trade Center site.
Why is it that if a Muslim is offended or may be offended, we all are warned to back off? No cartoons. No films. No novels. Faisal Shahzad attempts to murder Americans and tourists in Times Square and the twisted NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg lectures people about a backlash against Muslims.
At the very least, shouldn't similar concern about insensitivity be shown to the families of the victims of 9/11?
I think it's inappropriate for "Allahu Akbar" to be shoved in their faces at the place where their loved ones were slaughtered, innocents.
A display of intolerance would be outlawing mosques and Islamic centers in the city of New York or in the United States. That would be against our values as a nation. That would be shredding the Constitution. Objecting to a location for a mosque is not.
The problem is the line between Islam and radical Islam can be thin. Without question, there are Muslims who abhor the terrorism done in the name of their faith. IF those individuals speak out against the radicals and take care not to financially support their violence in any way, they are properly seen as victims of the Islamist movement as well.
However, it's not wrong or intolerant to be critical of the location of the proposed mosque at Ground Zero.
Actually, I think supporting that particular location is being remarkably insensitive to the tremendous loss suffered by so many on 9/11.
I wish Bloomberg and other leaders would consider their pain and show some compassion for them.
The New York Police Department has closed off four blocks in Times Square and is investigating a suspicious package, Fox News has confirmed.
The main pedestrian artery in the heart of New York City has been shut down by police from 43th to 47th Streets as authorities investigate the package, found just blocks from where a bomb-laden was SUV was parked Saturday night in a botched terrorist attack.
The bomb squad is now investigating a small, white cooler left on the street, the AP reported. The attention of police is focused on the intersection of 45th Street and Broadway in front of the Marriott Marquis Times Square hotel, according to Fox News reporters on the scene.
...Dozens of police officers have swarmed the area and created a security cordon. Security has been heightened in the city since 30-year-old Faisal Shahzad allegedly parked a crude, homemade carbomb made of gasoline, propane, fertilizer and fireworks. The bomb failed to explode, and no one was harmed in the incident.
Since the botched attack in Times Square the number of suspicious package calls to the police have shot up by nearly a third, the Wall Street Journal reported. Between Sunday and Wednesday, police checked out 493 suspicious packages, compared with 381 in the same period last year.
Better to be safe than sorry.

I'm getting flak for expressing disappointment during a radio intvw, that the NYC bomb suspect has links to Pakistan. I wasn't hoping the suspect would be of a particular nationality, race, or religion. Instead, I worry ppl will use this to justify racism & religious bigotry. The White House finally acknowledged that the car bomb in Times Square was an act of terrorism.
I guess that means Janet Napolitano will no longer be yapping about it being a "one off" event.
There was definitely a rush to judgment in the case by Napolitano. She declared that the device wasn't very sophisticated, as if that indicated those responsible weren't acting in the name of a terrorist organization.

Now that we know this wasn't a Tea Party activist turned terrorist, this question is more relevant:
The motive remained unclear. The Pakistani Taliban appeared to claim responsibility for the bomb in three videos that surfaced after the weekend scare, monitoring groups said. New York officials said police have no evidence to support the claims. It was unclear if the suspect in custody had any relationship to the group.
The SUV was parked near offices of Viacom Inc., which owns Comedy Central. The network recently aired an episode of the animated show "South Park" that the group Revolution Muslim had complained insulted the Prophet Muhammad by depicting him in a bear costume.
The notion that detonating a bomb and murdering innocents is an appropriate way to respond to free speech is truly sick.
It ticks me off that the Tea Party activists have been so vilified by Obama and the Leftists, yet the administration worries about offending the people really posing a threat to our safety, our lives.
Faisal Shahzad, the man arrested Monday in connection with the failed plot to detonate a car bomb in New York's Times Square, was trying to board a flight to Dubai when he was apprehended, Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday.
Holder said Shahzad, a U.S. citizen, was detained by agents from Customs and Border Protection at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The attorney general described the investigation as "multifaceted" and said federal, state and local authorities are continuing to pursue a number of leads. "As we move forward, we will focus on not just holding those responsible for it accountable, but also on obtaining any intelligence about terrorist organizations overseas," he said.
Holder suggested authorities may be searching for more suspects, saying, "We will not rest until we have brought everyone responsible to justice."
...Officials who spoke to The Associated Press early Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation said Shahzad had recently returned from a five-month trip to Pakistan, where he had a wife.
Shahzad, who has a Shelton, Conn., address, was being held in New York.
Holder reminds the American people to remain vigilant because clearly the intent of the plot was to kill Americans.
I hope this is a wake-up call for Obama and his administration and the Democrat flunkies.

Earlier this evening, Faisal Shahzad was arrested in connection with the attempted car bombing in New York on Saturday. Mr. Shahzad, an American citizen, was taken into custody at JFK Airport in New York as he attempted to board a flight to Dubai.
Since this plot was first uncovered on Saturday night, the FBI, prosecutors and intelligence lawyers in the National Security Division of the Justice Department and the U.S. Attorneys Offices in Manhattan and Connecticut, along with the NYPD have worked night and day to find out who was responsible for what would have been a deadly attack had it been successful. Over the course of the day today, we have gathered significant additional evidence that led to tonight’s arrest, which was made by agents from Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection.
This investigation is ongoing, as are our attempts to gather useful intelligence, and we continue to pursue a number of leads. But it’s clear that the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans.
FBI agents are working with their state and local counterparts in New York, Connecticut and other jurisdictions to gather evidence and intelligence related to this case. We are also coordinating with other members of the President’s national security team to ensure we use every resource available to the United States to bring anyone responsible to justice.
We continue to gather leads in this investigation, and it’s important that the American people remain vigilant. The vehicle in Times Square was first noticed on Saturday by a citizen who reported it to authorities, and, as always, any American who notices suspicious activity should report it to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
This investigation is ongoing, it is multi-faceted, and it is aggressive. As we move forward, we will focus on not just holding those responsible for it accountable, but also on obtaining any intelligence about terrorist organizations overseas.
Because of the fast-moving nature of this investigation, I am not able to make any further information public at this time. But the American people should know that we are deploying every resource available, and we will not rest until we have brought everyone responsible to justice.

A law enforcement official says a suspect in last weekend's failed car bomb attack on Times Square has been taken into custody.
The official spoke to The Associated Press early Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation.
The man, according to reports, is Faisal Shahzad, and is thought to be the one who bought the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder that was found loaded with gasoline, propane, fireworks and fertilizer in the heart of Times Square.
Shahzad, according to The New York Times, was arrested at a New York-area airport. Charges against Shahzad, who had returned recently from a trip to Pakistan, were not announced.
Federal agents and police detectives arrested a Connecticut man, a naturalized United States citizen from Pakistan, early Tuesday in connection with the failed Times Square car bombing, according to people briefed on the investigation.
The man, Faisal Shahzad, was believed to have recently bought the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder that was found loaded with gasoline, propane, fireworks and fertilizer in the heart of Times Square, one of the people briefed on the development said.
Mr. Shahzad was taken into custody at a New York-area airport, apparently trying to flee, one of the people said. Charges against Mr. Shahzad, who had returned recently from a trip to Pakistan, were not announced.
The authorities began focusing on him after they tracked the vehicle to its previously registered owner in Bridgeport, Conn., who had advertised it for sale on several Web sites. He paid cash, and the sale was handled without any formal paperwork.
The former owner told investigators that it appeared the buyer was of Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent, but could not recall his name. It was unclear how agents from the Joint Terrorist Task Force identified him. Federal authorities provided few details on Monday night about the arrest, the suspect or the scope of any conspiracy in the failed attack.
