Tyler Watson Sues Walmart, Dick's

From the Chicago Tribune:
A 20-year-old man in southern Oregon has filed a lawsuit against Dick's Sporting Goods and Walmart after he says they refused to sell him a rifle.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Tyler Watson's lawsuit filed Monday claims he faced age discrimination when he tried to buy a rifle in February at a store owned by Dick's in Medford.

Watson says he was also refused when he attempted to buy a gun at the Grants Pass Walmart.

Dick's and Walmart restricted gun sales in the wake of the Feb. 14 Florida high school massacre. The lawsuit is believed to be the first filed over the new gun policies.

Oregon law allows residents to buy shotguns or rifles starting at age 18.
So Oregon law allows people to buy rifles at the age of 18, but are private businesses required to sell a rifle to someone under 21?

I guess if a private bakery business is required to bake a cake for a gay wedding even though gay marriage violates the religious beliefs of the owner of the business and the store policy, then I suppose it's wrong for Walmart and Dick's to discriminate against Tyler Watson based on his age.

Nikki Haley Booed At NY Restaurant

"Love Trumps Hate."

What a load!

From FOX News:
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley took to Twitter Sunday to claim that she and her son were heckled as they left a New York City restaurant while the city's annual Gay Pride Parade was taking place.

...Haley has been one of the most outspoken members of the Trump administration in her role as ambassador to the U.N., but some of her statements while governor of South Carolina have drawn the ire of the LGBT community.

In November 2013, Haley opposed a federal lawsuit challening an amendment in South Carolina's constitution that banned same-sex marriage.

"The citizens of South Carolina spoke ... spoke something that I, too, believe, which is marriage should between a man and a woman," Haley said at the time. "I’m going to stand by the people of this state, stand by the constitution, I’m going to support it and fight for it every step of the way."

However, Haley appeared to alter her stance last year, when she delivered the Republican response to former President Barack Obama's final State of the Union address. Haley, who endorsed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in the Republican primaries, promised that a Republican president would "respect differences in modern families, but we would also insist on respect for religious liberty as a cornerstone of our democracy."

Gay pride parades across the country this weekend took on political overtones, an apparent reaction to the Trump administration.

Barry Manilow - Gay

Being famous has a lot of perks, but there's a downside. Managing one's image must be a pain.

To some extent, we all have to manage our images. Each of us has a reputation. Maybe it matters to you. Maybe it doesn't. Do you need the acceptance and approval of others? Are you comfortable enough in your own skin to not care what others think about you?

As social beings, we all deal with our place in the larger group. But, being in the public spotlight, you're judged on a dramatically larger stage. When your livelihood depends on fans, you need to take the public into account.

It's sad that Barry Manilow felt that he would disappoint his fans if he came out as gay. I don't know, but I'm guessing he probably misjudged them. Most likely knew he was gay. Why would anyone care whether Manilow was heterosexual or homosexual or fill-in-the-blank? It's irrelevant.

If his fans like his music and his performances, then they do. I doubt they would abandon him because of his choice of partner. His personal life is an entirely different realm that his fans don't and shouldn't fully access. No need to hide being gay.

I hope Manilow learned something by coming out.

Most people will accept you for the person you are.

If they don't, that's their problem.

Rebecca Bradley: 1992 Comments

Where were you in '92?

What did you say?

What did you do?

Should there be a statute of limitations in terms of accountability?

It would depend on the offense.

Rebecca Bradley is being held accountable for statements she published in 1992 as a college student.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Newly appointed state Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley wrote in a student newspaper 24 years ago that she had no sympathy for AIDS patients because they had effectively chosen to kill themselves, called gays "queers" and said Americans were "either totally stupid or entirely evil" for electing President Bill Clinton.

In one piece, she wrote people would be better off getting AIDS than cancer under Clinton because it would get more funding.

"How sad that the lives of degenerate drug addicts and queers are valued more than the innocent victims of more prevalent ailments," wrote Bradley, who then had the last name of Grassl.

GOP Gov. Scott Walker acknowledged Monday he was not aware of her Marquette University writings before he appointed her three times to judicial positions. He said it was clear her views had changed.

Bradley declined an interview request, but in a written statement said she was embarrassed about the pieces she wrote "as a very young student, upset about the outcome of that presidential election" in 1992, when Clinton first won the presidency.

"To those offended by comments I made as a young college student, I apologize, and assure you that those comments are not reflective of my worldview," her statement said. "These comments have nothing to do with who I am as a person or a jurist, and they have nothing to do with the issues facing the voters of this state."
I can understand why Bradley would be embarrassed.

Her comments are disturbing.

Had she made those comments recently, as a judge, I would find them extremely troubling.

She needed to apologize and clarify the person she is today.

Because her statements were made so long ago, as a student, I'm willing to accept her regret as sincere.

What this comes down to is whether or not we allow people to change. Can we accept their new selves?

For example:

Granted, Obama's declaration that marriage is between one man and one woman didn't utilize derogatory terms like Bradley used in her remarks. But, he made his statement as the Democrat nominee for president, and he maintained that stance until May 2012, as president.

Why is Obama allowed to "evolve"?

His statements from 2008 no longer apply.

OK.

Then, why assume that Rebecca Bradley's comments published in a 1992 student newspaper have anything to do with her opinions today?

I do not believe Bradley's remarks from 1992 accurately reflect Rebecca Bradley, justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Context is critical.

Kim Davis and 'Eye of the Tiger'

It's putting it mildly to say this was kind of a strange event.

If I just got out of jail and had to speak to a crowd of supporters, I would not have allowed "Eye of the Tiger" to be played as I took the stage. I wouldn't have been comfortable with that.

Turns out, Survivor wasn't comfortable with the use of the song.

Survivor objects to use of 'Eye of the Tiger' at Kentucky clerk rally

Survivor, the group behind the 1980s hit “Eye of the Tiger,” is objecting to the use of the song at a rally for Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis, who was released on Tuesday after serving jail time for refusing to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples.

Davis appeared on stage at a rally with presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, with the Survivor song adding extra theatricality to the event.

But the song’s co-author, Frankie Sullivan, posted a message on the group’s Facebook page saying that it was used without their permission.

“NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use ‘My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger.’

“I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin! C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that –

“See Ya really SoooooooonnnnnnN!!!!!!”

Oh, good grief. How lame!

Frankie Sullivan should be thrilled someone is using his "oldie," not whining about it.

Sullivan certainly should say he doesn't support Kim Davis if he doesn't, as a matter of clarification.

That Charmin comment is so stupid.

In my opinion, "Eye of the Tiger" has maintained its status since the early 80s.

The song still sucks as much as it did over thirty years ago. Quite a feat.

Kim Davis, DEMOCRAT

Kim Davis, DEMOCRAT, was thrown in jail Thursday for exercising her First Amendment rights.

Kim Davis Uproar Shows That Breaking The Law Is Only Okay When Progressives Do It

Sean Davis writes:

When you really think about it, though, this whole kerfuffle is obviously the fault of Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who refuses to issue gay marriage licenses. She should’ve known better. She should’ve thought this whole thing through.

If Kim Davis really wanted to avoid the ire and attention of progressives and their media allies, she should’ve just videotaped herself killing babies and then selling their organs. Then she could operate with total impunity.
Absolutely correct.

Obama and Benefits For Polygamists

Obama says that "everyone deserves the same benefits, no matter who they love."

Demand your rights, polygamists.

Love is love.

It is wrong to deny polygamists the right to have their relationships legitimized under the law of the United States.

I fully support the legal recognition of any loving relationships consenting adults wish to define as marriage. Why discriminate, allowing marriage only to be permitted between two individuals?

Love is love.

Love wins.

OK.

Racist George Takei Apologizes

George Takei is trying to walk back his racist rant against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

It's a little hard to take back calling Justice Thomas a "clown in blackface."

Here's video of Takei's ugly remarks:

Now, he expects a lame post on Facebook to suffice as an adequate apology for his incredibly demeaning and racist statements. Takei claims his "clown in blackface" comment wasn't actually racist.

From Scott Whitlock, NewsBusters:

Four days after a racist rant against Clarence Thomas, George Takei apologized and insisted his comments were not meant to be bigoted. The Star Trek actor took to Facebook and began, “I owe an apology.”

...On Facebook Takei attempted to justify his remarks:
I recently was asked by a reporter about Justice Clarence Thomas’s dissent in the marriage equality cases, in which he wrote words that really got under my skin, by suggesting that the government cannot take away human dignity through slavery, or though internment. In my mind that suggested that this meant he felt the government therefore shouldn’t be held accountable, or should do nothing in the face of gross violations of dignity. When asked by a reporter about the opinion, I was still seething, and I referred to him as a “clown in blackface” to suggest that he had abdicated and abandoned his heritage. This was not intended to be racist, but rather to evoke a history of racism in the theatrical arts. While I continue to vehemently disagree with Justice Thomas, the words I chose, said in the heat of anger, were not carefully considered.
The remarks were “not intended to be racist,” but only to “evoke a history of racism in the theatrical arts? “Would a conservative be able to get away with that?
Oh, I see.

As long as Takei says he didn't intend his remarks to be racist then they aren't racist.

Takei's effort to justify what he said falls flat.

Calling Justice Thomas a "clown in blackface" is a terrible insult. It's racist. Period.

So, will Takei receive the same treatment that Donald Trump has received?

Why are attacks on Clarence Thomas permitted?

The Leftists' treatment of Justice Thomas is truly disgraceful. And racist.

Tammy Baldwin: Freedom of Religion for 'Institutions of Faith'

Tammy Baldwin, far Leftist U.S. senator from WISCONSIN, believes freedom of religion is not an individual's right. Rather, it should be extended to "institutions of faith."

From NewsBusters, Tom Blumer:

The latest confirmation that Erick Erickson's original warning at RedState "you will be made to care" about the legalization of same-sex "marriage" even if you think it doesn't affect you comes from Minnesota Senator Tammy Baldwin.
That's a mistake. Unfortunately, Baldwin is Wisconsin's senator.
On Saturday, the day after the Supreme Court's related ruling, Baldwin was on MSNBC’s “Up w/ Steve Kornacki” program. Baldwin was asked, "Should the bakery have to bake the cake for the gay couple getting married? Where do you come down on that?" The short version of her answer: "Damn right they should."

Baldwin is generous enough to say that "institutions of faith" are safe. What a pal.

In the video, which is available at Breitbart, Kornacki begins asking the relevant question at the 3:57 mark:

Transcript of relevant passage:
Tammy Baldwin: “Certainly the first amendment says that in institutions of faith that there is absolute power to, you know, to observe deeply held religious beliefs. But I don’t think it extends far beyond that. We’ve seen the set of arguments play out in issues such as access to contraception. Should it be the individual pharmacist whose religious beliefs guides whether a prescription is filled, or in this context, they’re talking about expanding this far beyond our churches and synagogues to businesses and individuals across this country. I think there are clear limits that have been set in other contexts and we ought to abide by those in this new context across America.”
Hell no, Tammy.

The government is not going to infringe on MY RIGHT to exercise MY religion.

These Leftists don't hesitate to strip Americans of our liberty.

What is this?

We have to protect our freedom.

No Leftist band of thugs can take that away.

Hillary Clinton Campaign Rainbow Logo

Hillary Clinton's Twitter account is now using a transformed campaign logo.

Her unsightly blue and red H with the arrow has become a rainbow.

The "Hillary Pride collection."

Once upon a time, Hillary Clinton argued that marriage was a "sacred bond between a man and a woman," calling it a "fundmental, bedrock principle, that it exists between a man and a woman going back into the midst of history."

Hillary said marriage between a man and a woman was "one of the founding, foundational institutions of history and humanity and civilization; and that it's primary principle role during those millennia has been the raising and socializing of children for the society into which they are to become adults."

Now, Hillary is trying to cash in on the Supreme Court's ruling legalizing gay marriage in all fifty states.

I'd like Hillary to define "bedrock principle."

Love Is Love

From the New York Times:

In a long-sought victory for the gay rights movement, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage.

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion in the 5 to 4 decision. He was joined by the court’s four more liberal justices.

The decision, the culmination of decades of litigation and activism, came against the backdrop of fast-moving changes in public opinion, with polls indicating that most Americans now approve of same-sex marriage.

Justice Kennedy said gay and lesbian couples had a fundamental right to marry.

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family,” he wrote. “In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.”

...Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., in a dissent joined by Justice Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, said the Constitution had nothing to say on the subject.

“If you are among the many Americans — of whatever sexual orientation — who favor expanding same-sex marriage, by all means celebrate today’s decision,” Chief Justice Roberts wrote. “Celebrate the achievement of a desired goal. Celebrate the opportunity for a new expression of commitment to a partner. Celebrate the availability of new benefits. But do not celebrate the Constitution. It had nothing to do with it.”
With all due respect, John Roberts is a buffoon.

Yesterday, Roberts argued that words no longer have meaning. Today, language matters again.

Today, Roberts argues, "This court is not a legislature."

What?

He considered it a legislature yesterday.

He's a joke.

Regarding the gay marriage ruling, I would hope that all those celebrating today's Supreme Court ruling are lending their support to all consenting adults wishing to define their particular configuration of love as marriage and have their particular unions recognized by the state and granted legitimacy.

It would be wrong, and should be declared illegal, to discriminate against people in other loving unions. Why should their love be denied?

If love wins, then love should win.

Since marriage has been deemed redefined across the country today, let's redefine it so no one is denied the right to express their love and the right to have their unions recognized as legitimate in the eyes of the law.

And, let's commit ourselves to uphold the RIGHTS guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Love IS love.

Marriage equality IS marriage equality.

Religious liberty IS religious liberty.

Graeme Zielinski, Scott Walker, Right-To Work

The Leftists are so inconsistent.

They apply and ignore standards at will.

There are different rules for Republicans and Democrats.

I guess when Obama declared that marriage was between one man and one woman that only applied to his first term and the first part of his second term, right?

Reporters should have asked, "For what period of time will your stance on gay marriage last?"

According to Leftists, Obama's documented lies were a good thing. "Sometimes, lying does pay."

For Democrats, lying is a shrewd and worthy exercise. For Republicans, "evolving" is "oily."

If Graeme Zielinski, former spokesman for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, and Dan Bice, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, are going to whine about Scott Walker's change regarding right-to-work legislation, then they should whine about Obama's various statements that didn't hold up over time.

Lie of the century. The century is young, but it's such a whopper I think it may retain the title.
