David Clarke Joins Trump Administration

Local Leftists and anti-Trump conservatives have complained and complained that Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke wasn't doing a good job. Now that he's stepping aside for a position with the Department of Homeland Security, they're complaining that he's abandoning Milwaukee.

Milwaukee County's parks director has sent a letter to the company behind the gaming sensation "Pokemon Go," asking it to comply with a county ordinance that requires a permit for game play in the public spaces, WISN 12 NEWS has learned.

So far there's been no reply, parks director John Dargle said, adding that he's only asking the CEO of Niantic to do what any organization must do when it organizes an event on park land.

"We're asking them to submit a permit so that we understand who is the contact (and) how we can get a hold of them if this should get out of hand," Dargle said.

Until that permit is obtained, Niantic "must deactivate and removal all Pokemon GO sites, including Poke stops and Gyms within Milwaukee County parks," the letter said.

...Additionally, entrepreneurs like artist Anandah Bohl have seized upon the opportunity presented by the game by selling fan art to the throngs in Lake Park. Niantic makes money through in-app purchases.

"Parks wants a cut of that revenue so we can help catch up on deferred maintenance," Abele said, adding that it's illegal to operate a business without a permit.

"Pokemon Go" player Andres Amaya suggested the county let it go.

"I understand the danger, the worry, the fears behind that, but from what I've seen, everyone plays respectfully here. Everyone's extremely polite, and I don't know why people wouldn't want the parks to be filled with people. That's what parks are made for," he said.

Oh my God! People in a county park! Imagine that.

Give me a break!

This is all about money, as Abele admits. The county wants its cut.

When I was at Lambeau Field over a month ago, I saw what was clearly a "Pokemon Go" assembly at the "Lambeau Leap" statue.

It didn't bother me. I expect to encounter people when I'm out in public.

Chris Larson is giving Chris Abele a run for his money in the Milwaukee County executive race.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

State Sen. Chris Larson (D-Milwaukee) and incumbent County Executive Chris Abele easily topped a four-candidate field in Tuesday's primary and will compete for the job of county executive on the April 5 spring election ballot.

Larson had a more than 700 vote lead over Abele with 100% of the votes counted at the end of a night marked by several lead changes.

Larson, leading with a slim margin, won 45% of the vote in Tuesday's primary, according to preliminary results.

Abele received 44% of the primary vote to place well ahead of Joseph T. Klein of the Wisconsin Pirate Party and Steve Hogan, a carpenter.

Larson, at the state Capitol late Tuesday where the Senate was wrapping up a floor session, said he was pleased with Tuesday's results.

"I feel extremely positive," Larson said. "My reputation for standing up for working families is noticed by voters."

"And despite being outspent nearly 20 to 1 by our opponent, tonight we showed that the race for Milwaukee County executive is tied as we head into the April general election."

"We're just getting started," Larson said. "There's plenty of room on the bandwagon for more."

Abele said he expected this to be a close race.

I didn't realize the race was so close.

I'm no fan of Chris Abele, but Chris Larson would be a disaster as Milwaukee County executive.

I suppose he's grown up since his shoplifting days, but it remains a part of his story.

I don't know what to say about his disorderly conduct arrest in 2004. He was no "struggling college student" when that happened.

His messy past matters, but not as much as his Leftist record as a politician.

Milwaukee and Milwaukee County are on a Detroit trajectory.

Electing Larson would be a terrible mistake.

Chris Larson, former AWOL Wisconsin senator, former senate minority leader, and shoplifter, announced yesterday that he will be challenging Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele.

Wisconsin Senator Chris Larson (D) announced his candidacy for Milwaukee County Executive on Monday afternoon, October 12th.

Larson made the announcement in front of the Greenfield home where he grew up. Larson indicated that he has been more focused on his family and his community for the last ten months. He feels the office needs to be restored. Larson said Milwaukee County is his home -- and he intends for it to be the home of his children as well.

"I seek to serve once again," said Larson. "If I win, we will take the office back for the middle class."

Larson told reporters he is running for Milwaukee County Executive because he was asked to restore the power to the people.

"It's clear Milwaukee County is heading in the wrong direction," said Larson.

I'm no Chris Abele fan, but he's dramatically better than Chris Larson.

...Larson was joined by former Wisconsin State Rep. Sandy Pasch and Congresswoman Gwen Moore, who has endorsed Larson.

Gwen Moore's endorsement?

That's all you need to know.

Apparently, Abele isn't Leftist enough for the Leftists.

Enter Larson.

Bottom line: Larson would be a disaster for Milwaukee County.

John Chisholm and Dontre Hamilton : No Criminal Charges

It was obvious that John Chisholm was going to announce that he would seek no criminal charges against Officer Christopher Manney for the shooting of Dontre Hamilton.

Today, he finally did.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office released a report on Monday morning, December 22nd that indicates former Milwaukee Police Officer Christopher Manney‘s “use of force” in the shooting death of 31-year-old Dontre Hamilton was “justified self-defense and that defense cannot be reasonably overcome to establish a basis to charge Officer Manney with a crime.”

On April 30th, Hamilton was sleeping in Red Arrow Park. Then-Officer Christopher Manney was performing a welfare check, and police say Hamilton grabbed Manney’s baton and struck him with it. That’s when Christopher Manney opened fire, shooting Hamilton 14 times.

Local media seem to be waiting for the city to explode.

I'm glad I don't have tickets to take kids to The Nutcracker today, across the street from Red Arrow Park. I'm sure there are many anxious people, worried about what the agitators might do.

It's sad that the ice rink and Starbucks were closed, but understandable given the national efforts by race baiters, sometimes called "civil rights leaders," and their minions to escalate violence against police. It would be irresponsible to let the general public get caught in that mess.

Of course, Hamilton's family and their legal counsel will continue to push for a federal investigation.

Operating within the law is their right. They should do what they need to do WITHIN THE LAW.

Standing on the freeway and blocking traffic, like Hamilton's family did last Friday, is NOT within the law.

It is the duty of the Milwaukee Police Department, and the National Guard if necessary, to keep the peace.

I expect them to take measures to protect the public from the violent actions of protesters/thugs.

Let's be honest. Some Leftists hate the police. They are promoting violence against them.

Others want to politically capitalize on the Hamilton case.

I do think that the assassination of two NYPD officers on Saturday afternoon by Ismaaiyl "#ShootThe Police" Brinsley, an "I Can't Breathe" guy, has heightened concern for the safety of police and the public from these thugs.

The assassinations have brought attention to the irresponsible rhetoric coming from Obama and Eric Holder and Bill de Blasio, as well as race baiters like Al Sharpton and NAACP officials.

WHAT DO WE WANT?

No one deserves blind support, including the police.

However, I think it's safe to assume that the overwhelming majority of southeastern Wisconsin residents support the good guys, the police.

MAYOR Barrett sounds like a bystander, like he doesn't want to get involved and is an unwilling witness.

He says his role is to make sure everyone's voice is heard.

I think you have more to do than that, Tom.

Graeme Zielinski: Scott Walker Birthday Rant

Crazed Democrat Graeme Zielinski, the guy who worked as a "researcher" for Chris Abele, produced a stream of spewings on Twitter early yesterday evening.

Sunday was Scott Walker's birthday and the 4th anniversary of his first election as governor of Wisconsin. (God, that was a great night! So many terrific victories!)



Of course, the nightmare would begin a few months later - the protests and all the ugliness. Then came the recall.

But that ended with Walker's historic victory, defeating Tom Barrett - again.



This stinging defeat for the Democrats left some of them angry and bitter and bent on revenge. Of course, some were angry and bitter long before the recall.

David Clarke Defeats Chris Moews

Poor Leftists.

The Leftists in Milwaukee tried to take out Sheriff David Clarke.

Michael Bloomberg and Chris Abele invested in Clarke's defeat.

Bad investment.

Channel 12's Mike Gousha was interviewing Clarke live when the station reported that Clarke had won.

It was weird for Channel 12 to say 100% of the precincts were reporting and Clarke was victorious while other outlets like FOX6 and the Journal Sentinel were still holding out hope for those 6000 absentee ballots.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke narrowly beats challenger Christopher Moews.

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Clarke beat Moews 52 to 48 percent, but absentee ballots still need to be counted.

Moews, a Milwaukee police lieutenant, did not concede Tuesday night.

Clarke will face independent candidate, Angela Walker, in the general election in November.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. edged Milwaukee police Lt. Chris Moews early Wednesday in a Democratic primary race that drew national attention and more than $600,000 in outside spending.

With all but 6,000 city of Milwaukee absentee ballots counted, Clarke led by more than 4,700 votes. Moews would need nearly 5,400 of those absentee ballots to fall his way, which experts quickly dismissed as impossible.

Shortly before midnight, Moews refused to concede. And shortly thereafter, Clarke told supporters he felt good about his chances but would not declare victory until all ballots were counted.

"We like where we're standing right now," he said.

"Without the air support of talk radio, this would have been very difficult to do," he said.

...Interest in the race grew after former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's political action committee put up more than $150,000 to try to defeat Clarke and his pro-gun stance. In all, outside groups spent more than $550,000 to try to defeat Clarke in what became a political battle of gun control forces vs. Clarke, who received support from the National Rifle Association and other groups.

In his remarks, Clarke mentioned the local talk radio hosts by name.

That was classy.

I wonder if Moews will thank Bloomberg and Abele and Tom Barrett when he concedes.

Maybe he won't concede.

Whatever.

Clarke won, which means Milwaukee County won.

The big money Leftists/Democrats lost.

Chris Moews: 'Refuse To Cooperate With Federal Immigration Officials'

Chris Moews wants Sheriff David Clarke's job.

He hopes getting in bed with Voces de la Frontera, a radical group, will help him achieve that end.

According to a post on Facebook, Moews "has vowed to join hundreds of other cities across the country if elected and refuse to cooperate with federal immigration officials on ICE holds that jail undocumented people senselessly and arbitrarily."

At least some people in Milwaukee County can't be happy with that.

Of course, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is attempting to do damage control for Moews, doing everything possible to smooth things over.

Moews was taken out of context, blah, blah, blah.

The Journal Sentinel mentions the whopping load of cash, $400,000, the Greater Wisconsin Committee is using to defeat Clarke, but Chris Abele's name doesn't come up in the article.

Neither does the unbelievably lame open letter Moews sent to Mark Belling, Jay Weber, Charlie Sykes and Jeff Wagner.

Nice reporting, Journal Sentinel!

The fact is the Journal Sentinel is a Leftist propaganda rag.

Self-professed Catholic Zielinski is casting lots of stones here.

If I were to take to Twitter and repeatedly call Zielinski an utterly irresponsible person and a three-time arrested drunk driver, that wouldn't be a smear. It would be completely true and thoroughly substantiated.

But, I don't see the point in such persistent attacks.

Zielinski's attacks on Clarke and other conservatives are flat-out bizarre. No happy, healthy person throws out claims like that as a nearly daily routine. It's weird. It's unprofessional.

It's like Zielinski is being paid to be a jerk.

I wonder what sort of "research" Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele hired Zielinski to do.

Given Zielinski's bizarre behavior, I think "Mr. Moderate" Abele should explain his connection to the vitriol spewing Zielinski. Abele's silence on the matter leads one to question the purpose of the $10,000 job.

Why did Abele hire this guy?

Graeme Zielinski should stay off Twitter.

It cost him his job as the spokesman for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

With frequency, Zielinski goes on Twitter rants, spewing the ugliest of accusations.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is often the target of Zielinski's hate.

For example, here are some tweets from Zielinski, beginning the afternoon of May 31, 2013, and going past midnight.

Twisted to say the least.

Today, Brian Fraley and Collin Roth, Right Wisconsin, reveal a bizarre bit of information. Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele paid the truly crazed Graeme Zielinski $10,000 in 2013, for "research."

According to recent campaign finance reports, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele paid former Democratic Party spokesman $10,000 for unspecified "research" in 2013.

Zielinski, fired from his position as spokesman after comparing Gov. Walker to Jeffery Dahmer, is perhaps best know in recent months for his arrest for drunk driving in Jefferson County and his typically vile and accusatory tweets.

Again and again, Democrat Zielinski tweets that Clarke beats his wife.

Out of nowhere comes a tweet accusing Clarke of violence. It's really creepy.

In response to Zielinski's smears, Sheriff Clarke told RightWisconsin:

"Categorically deny. Not only is it totally false, their is nothing even close to it, not even a misunderstanding or some other taken out of context explanation. I'm actually insulted by the accusation, not by your asking but by them. Julie is repulsed by this type of smear after I told her."

Fraley and Roth wonder if Abele's payment to Zielinski is related to his persistent attacks against Clarke.

[Is Abele] paying Graeme Zielinski to do his dirty work?

We don't know.

We do know that Abele paid Zielinski $10,000 for unspecified research. That's a lot of money for "research."

"Research."

Considering Zielinski's "Dahmer" downfall on Twitter occurred on March 1, 2013, I wonder when Abele chose to reach out to Zielinski for his valuable "research" work.

Why would Abele want to be associated with someone like Zielinski, given the way he conducts himself?

Ten thousand dollars to Zielinski in 2013-- That says more about Abele than Zielinski. Very revealing.

Obama: 'Abele' and 'Waukesha'

We all know the allegedly brilliant Obama has problems with pronunciation.

Obama makes many verbal flubs. I'm not focusing on his lies and his "57 states" sort of idiocy. I'm talking about his speaking ability.

For example:

Try Obama's "corpse-man."

Try Obama's "e-pants-ipation."

Try Obama's "Cominskey Field."

(Actually, the "Cominskey Field" isn't just mispronunciation. It's also idiocy. Wisconsinites and Brewers fans, can you imagine calling Miller Park something like "Millner's Field"? Yeah, wouldn't happen in a million years.)

In Waukesha today, speaking at the GE gas engine plant, Obama had more problems with getting his words out correctly.

Now, when it comes to the pronunciation of names, that's a difficult thing.

In Obama's defense, Milwaukee County Executive, Chris Abele, DEMOCRAT, does have a name that doesn't have an obvious pronunciation. It's not "Jones" or "Smith." However, that makes it all the more critical that Obama's staff would have assured that he didn't make a fool of himself by mispronouncing Abele's name. And Obama REALLY butchered it.

As I said, if I didn't know better, I wouldn't consider the correct pronunciation of Abele to be AY-ba-lee. But Obama's "a-BEE-la" was really a stretch. It can't be that Obama was thinking of Cabela's, with the emphasis on the second syllable. He's not a Cabela's sort of guy.

The same goes with Obama's pronunciation of Waukesha. Although the proper pronunciation isn't obvious, Mr. Sweet Home Chicago should certainly have heard of Waukesha. I can pronounce "Waukegan" or "Skokie" correctly. Without question, Obama aides should have provided their boss with the clear, proper pronunciation.

As to the substance of Obama's remarks, I didn't listen to anything he said, just as I didn't listen to his State of the Union address. Why bother?

Obama LIED to me. Can I keep my health care plan under ObamaCare, as promised? Can I keep my doctor, as promised?

NO and NO.

Obama LIED about a terrorist attack on my country, killing four of my fellow Americans in Benghazi.

I don't trust anything that comes out of his mouth.

By the way, I have a good suggestion for what Obama can do with his "year of action" imperial pen.

Rebecca Bradley Wins

All the Scott Walker haters in Milwaukee couldn't defeat Judge Rebecca Bradley.

Rough night for the Leftists.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's headline tells how the Leftists viewed the race:

"Scott Walker appointee Rebecca Bradley re-elected judge in Milwaukee County"

I think it speaks to Bradley's qualifications that the Left's efforts to dismiss Bradley based on her appointment by Walker failed miserably.

Incumbent Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Rebecca Bradley on Tuesday held off a challenger who made an issue of Bradley's appointment by Gov. Scott Walker and a conservative group's spending to back her.

According to complete, unofficial returns, Bradley took 54% of the vote to 46% for Janet Protasiewicz, a veteran prosecutor backed by the area's leading Democrats.

Bradley, 41, a Milwaukee native, had worked 16 years as a corporate litigator with two large law firms, and was also a software company executive. She was appointed in November and has been serving in Children's Court since December.

Protasiewicz, 50, also a Milwaukee native, entered the race in late December. Initially, she stressed her courtroom experience as a primary challenger portrayed both her and Bradley as too political.

Bradley once belonged to the Republican National Lawyers Association and led the local chapter of the Federalist Society, a conservative lawyers group. She contributed $1,750 to Walker's campaigns since 2005.

Protasiewicz has been active in the Democratic Party, demonstrated in Madison over Act 10 and signed the Walker recall petition.

Protasiewicz won endorsement from Democrats such as Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, District Attorney John Chisholm, U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, and most leading Democratic legislators, aldermen and county supervisors. She also had the backing of several major labor groups and more than a dozen Milwaukee circuit judges.

While on the bench only a few months, Bradley stressed her own judicial experience and work as an arbitrator, a neutral party in disputes. She had the support of several circuit judges, the Milwaukee police and deputies unions, and retired District Attorney E. Michael McCann. She also touted the fact she had managed to get two of the area's most antagonistic political leaders - Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. and County Executive Chris Abele - to agree she was the better candidate.

The election is over but the JS is still fighting.

It's not insignificant that Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele endorsed Bradley, that she received bipartisan support.

The Leftists really are not dealing with their big judicial defeats well.

A Scott Walker appointee won in Milwaukee County. Deal with it, Leftists.

Clarke appeared live on Sunday's "Live at 10" newscast to talk about the heat he's taken for not providing Milwaukee County sheriff's deputies as security when President Barack Obama was in Milwaukee at Master Lock last Wednesday.

Several city officials, including Milwaukee Common Council President Willie Hines and County Supervisor Eyon Biddle have criticized Clarke's handling of the situation.

Biddle went as far to call Clarke a "disgrace" and an "embarassment."

Clarke has said he couldn't provide security because his $446,000 for dignitary protection were cut out of Milwaukee County's latest budget.

Clarke continues to answer his critics.

Last Friday, Clarke appeared on Charlie Sykes' radio program.

Clarke doesn't pull any punches.

He doesn't hold back.

I think Clarke is right to be bothered by the criticism.

Milwaukee has real problems, severe problems.

County government should focus on those.

Given the following revelations about Johnny Thomas, will some of these individuals change their minds about endorsing him?

Milwaukee County Supervisor Johnny L. Thomas - the frontrunner in the race for city comptroller - was charged Thursday with accepting a bribe in exchange for promoting a company for a county contract.

Prosecutors charged Thomas with two felony counts, one for accepting a bribe and the other for misconduct in office.

Thomas, 43, is accused of taking a $500 in cash in an undercover sting operation with Pat Farley, head of the county Department of Administrative Services, in exchange for promoting a company for a county financial services contract, according to the complaint.

The first-term supervisor accepted the money during the second of two meetings with Farley at the Dunkin Donuts, 622 W. Wisconsin Ave. The charges say Thomas also agreed to accept another $500 in campaign donations to move forward with recommending the contract.

One day after accepting the $500 bribe, the charges say, Thomas added an item to his committee agenda to extend the contract from the company that he thought was offering the cash.

...The charges were brought as part of a John Doe that was opened in late October or early November - less than two months after Thomas announced his bid for comptroller, according to those familiar with the investigation.

Asked about the John Doe probe earlier in the day, Thomas said he knew nothing about it.

"Oh, wow," said the first-term supervisor, who represents the city's northwest side. "I'm kinda waiting for you to say, 'Gotcha.'"

Thomas immediately left the County Board room Thursday morning after he was asked about the Doe investigation by a reporter and was gone for nearly the entire meeting.

Who is leaking all this information about these John Doe investigations?

Because this one targets a Leftist, was this leaked to take the heat off Democrat hack John Chisholm?

I suppose Barrett will say he's "disappointed," if anyone in the media would bother to ask him to comment. I don't think this rises to the Barrett "outrage" level.

Chris Abele: LIBERAL

Steve Schultze, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, writes that Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele is hard to peg as a liberal or conservative.

It was clear from the get-go that Chris Abele was not going to be your typical politician.

The 44-year-old had never held office or even worked a traditional job before winning the Milwaukee County executive race in April, and he's kept a relatively low profile since then.

Abele has sometimes sounded like a conservative, especially when vowing not to raise taxes, damning county pensions as a major financial drag and speaking of wringing every last drop of efficiency from county services.

But he's often also viewed by some as a liberal, in his links with the Democratic Party, support from unions and backing of causes such as extending health insurance coverage to gay and straight unmarried partners of county workers.

By temperament, Abele also strays from the standard image of the ego-driven politician. Indeed, he often appears reticent in the limelight, as when he delivered his 2012 budget speech Thursday before a full house in the County Board chamber in a hurried monotone, reading intently and barely glancing up from his script.

What he actually put in the budget sent a more powerful message. Not only did Abele keep his no-new-taxes pledge, he put the burden of filling a gaping $55 million shortfall squarely on the backs of county workers and Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr.'s budget, which would be trimmed by millions of dollars.

Abele also cut arts funding, including wiping out a $378,000 program of support to local arts groups, including Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Ballet, Milwaukee Repertory Theater and Skylight Opera Theatre. He also trimmed 15% from county subsidies to the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and the federated library system.

So is Abele a Leftist or a conservative?

He's a self-declared Leftist.

He's not at all "hard to peg."

Just because the unions aren't thrilled with some of the things Abele has done doesn't make him a conservative.

CHRIS ABELE: I'm from Boston. I moved here about 20 years ago, and I stayed here because I love this place like nowhere else I've ever lived. And I won't live anywhere else.

As many of you know, I run a foundation right now. I support, have supported for a long time a lot of LEFTY causes proudly, a lot of Democrats. Prior to that, I built and ran a business, had some success in that, continue to maintain it, but most of my time and the most rewarding thing I do is to work hard and try, try to help move the world in the right direction as I see it. I imagine, largely, how you see it.

Politically, I was thinking before experience with other-minded people for a long time a big part of what I did was human rights work. And I had the odd and somewhat surreal experience of working with the Bush State Department, which was just that - odd and surreal.

I know that things you've heard and descriptions about how partisan things can get in government, even when I thought I'd seen the highest extremes, I had the experience of the State Department requesting a group that I was working with, a meeting. And they wanted to do a grant with us, and they asked on a phone call, 'Hey we like your group, but we researched your board of directors and you have a lot of Democrats on your board.' And I seriously thought he was joking at the time, and I said, 'Well, that's still legal, right?'

...But just in terms of the extremes to which things go, if we can never forget, never forget it's so important to fight for the things that make Democrats great: fundamental fairness, fundamental civil liberties, and that's why I've spent a lot of my working life in the last 20 years doing that and with pride.

My progressive experience I think is best summed by ACLU, Citizen's Action, Planned Parenthood, NOW, Feminist Majority, NARAL, Women for the League of Conservation Voters, a whole bunch of education groups, and, you know, a long list, none of which of course I was doing because I thought I was going to be running for office, all of which I was doing because they're things I care about and will do no matter what happens in this race.

I decided to run because, while I've been on the other side and supported candidates and Dems with varying degrees of success locally, statewide, and federally for many years, I truly, truly care, again, about the place that's my home. And I've watched, as we all have, as this county has been an increasing train wreck. I mean, I think it might have been the Titanic about, you know, maybe six years ago. It's become the Titanic plus the Hindenburg, but worse. Since then, and given what the governor's likely to do in terms of shared revenue and reimbursement funds, it'll get worse still.

I think the fact that the biggest thing the county does, health and human services, is something we rarely hear about is because for seven years the last leader of the county was largely indifferent to health and human services, and that is truly tragic. Yes, parks matter, absolutely, and so do the arts, and so do the courts, and so does busing and so does transit. BUT human services, I mean, the human part of what we do, to allow that to suffer the way we have is beneath all of us.

I'm running because I care. I'm running because I had a lot of opportunities to lead and I've had a lot of success doing it. I'm running because I've worked with politicians at local, state, and federal level on both parties. And I'm running because I know I can make a difference. And I will beat Jeff Stone.

Abele is very easy to peg.

It's nuts for the Journal Sentinel to run a piece on Abele being somewhat of an enigma.

Chris Abele: Campaign Fundraiser, County Employees

Chris Abele isn't much of a stickler when it comes to following the rules.

During the county executive campaign, we learned of Abele's habitual violations.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Abele not only had a history of dismissing the rules, but it's still a pattern he follows.

Abele's campaign solicited from county employees

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's campaign improperly solicited donations from county employees, seeking their attendance at a $50-per-person fundraiser held at Abele's home, an Abele campaign aide said Wednesday.

Abele said he was unaware of the county ban and would do whatever was necessary to ensure such solicitations won't happen again.

"I want to avoid even the appearance of impropriety," Abele said. Soliciting campaign contributions from county workers "sends the wrong message," he said. "I certainly in no way expect, nor have I asked, nor would I ever ask, any employee to support anyone other than someone they felt good with."

Patrick Gurasci, a campaign aide to Abele, took responsibility for what he called a mistake and said the telephone solicitation for a barbecue fundraiser at Abele's Lake Drive mansion on Monday had likely been made to about 30 to 40 county staffers. Gurasci said an automated phone call inviting people to the event came from a list of Abele supporters, as well as others.

The barbecue fundraiser was also listed on Abele's campaign website as his "Annual BBQ with Chris Abele." It suggested donations of $50 for supporters to $3,000 for his "executive's circle." There was no intention of targeting county staffers in the solicitation, Gurasci said.

He said the campaign so far had discovered only one $100 donation from one county employee and his spouse from the Monday event. The money was returned, Gurasci said. That donation was from Jeff Bentoff, Abele's spokesman and deputy chief of staff, and Bentoff's wife, Julie Penman, a former Milwaukee city official.

...Violations of the county ethics code carry fines of up to $1,000.

Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf said he hadn't received any complaints about donation solicitations under the county ordinance. In similar instances of violations of campaign law that appear inadvertent and were corrected by the candidate, "we have considered that it was a good faith mistake," Landgraf said.

Good grief.

Abele was in violation of the county ethics code but the violation of campaign law appears to be inadvertent. It was a "good faith mistake."

When did the Journal Sentinel ever cut Scott Walker this kind of slack?

The newspaper would have tarred and feathered Walker for soliciting from county employees.

Abele is extremely inexperienced. But don't his aides have a bit more awareness of something like the county ethics code?

Apparently not.

No problem. The liberal media aren't troubled with Abele being caught soliciting from county employees.

Abele just made a tiny "good faith mistake."

It uses humor to convey the message. I also think people can relate to what Stone has to say.

Abele doesn't know what it's like to be one of us. He doesn't get it.
